Recently I had the opportunity to spend one week at this hotel over the Christmas holidays in Panama City. The hotel is an ideal location in being right on the Pacific Ocean near the center of the city and on a direct route to the international airport (about twenty minutes). Like the other reviews indicate, this hotel is similar to other Marriott properties. At this time, it is in the process of being updated as it became a Marriott about 15 months ago. As you will discover, the service is impeccable, the facility squeaky clean, the ambiance comfortable, the location central to the city, has a shuttle that runs hourly to a major shopping venue, people fantastic and accommodating, and attitude that is exemplary. The hotel's lobby is on the 15th floor of a high rise building with the hotel itself occupying floors from (about) the 12th to the 32nd floor. At this time, they have one full service restaurant which serves all the meals. As I discovered the building complex has alternative dining establishments for variety. I highly recommend the DELUCA Coffee Shop on the ground level which has lighter meals and TASTY PANAMA on the ground floor which has refreshing alternative dining emphasizing fantastic healthy fresh lighter fare (freshly squeezed juices, sushi, poke bowls, wraps, main courses, etc). In addition, there are other ground level restaurants on the water in the building (did not try), and around the corner on the street there are more places to try and two stores where other food items are available. Location-wise, this hotel has much to offer. And, everyone in the reception area (management, concierges, bellmen, and registration) await one's questions and strive to please. Everyone was so good. And, the room was very comfortable and quiet.

We stayed at the JW Marriott in Panama for four days and enjoyed the experience immensely. The hotel is a gem. The rooms and lobby areas were roomy, up-to date across the board, and decorated with tasteful décor. The location is desirable and not far from many sites. The view from the back of the hotel pool and dining area was superb. Sitting by the infinity pool with a view of the ocean and the skyline was truly delightful. But, perhaps, the most impressive aspect of the hotel was the service. From the moment we checked in with Victor, who greeted us warmly and helped us get acclimated, to the staff in the restaurants and the executive concierge lounge, one could not have hoped for more. Adrian, Maxine, as well as all of the other concierge lounge staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. They exceeded our expectations. Panama is a great vacation spot—pleasant weather, lots to see, including the Mira Flores Locks at the Panama Canal, the Amador Causeway, and Casco Viejo. Staying at the JW Marriott is icing on the cake!!

This is an almost funny yet frustrating experience staying at this hotel for 3 nights.

The good parts: staff speaks decent English. Great location. Wonderful food. Amazing pools.

Frustrating part: when we tried to call front desk from our room to order room service, or need something during the evenings, we were on hold on the phone for like 15 mins before someone reluctantly picked it up, EVERY night. What we don't get is: when we stopped by lobby, they have 5-6 staffs standing around and greet us with big smiles. Are they just not allowed to pick up the phones?! One night we ran out of shampoo (room service didn't replace the empty one), and we were on hold for 15 mins and waited for another 20 mins before we could shower.

Advice to management: check your phone record for average wait time calling front desk past 6pm, and staff people to pick up calls from your guests please!

As an Ambassador status with Marriott my visits are usually all nearly perfect but this hotel visit was a disaster. Hotel had no water, so no showers, no toilet flush, no coffee etc. they moved me to a lower floor to take a shower but again no water. They should have a back up plan such as bottled water delivered to rooms but the front desk was in crisis mode as if they had never thought of a plan should this happen. Welcome to the third world is all the bell man had to say upon exit.

We stayed here for 3 nights and liked it so much we will probably return next year. The rooms are beautiful with larger than normal water view balconies. The staff was exceptional and went out of their way for anything we asked about. There are two infinity pools overlooking the waterfront (large enough to swim laps) plus several other pools. Plenty of seating options around the pools and very attentive staff. Since I'm a Platinum member, we made use of the Executive Lounge rather than the restaurants. The lounge is open 24 hours with breakfast and an evening snack of salad and tapas type items; there is a small but excellent wine selection. Outside there is a separate patio area for drinks and dining which overlooks the pools and waterfront. The fitness center is one of the best hotel gyms I have ever seen. Everything about our stay was topnotch. However, there are a few quirks. The lobby is on the 15th Floor (SL in the elevator) but the checkin desk is off to the side, not easily visible. There is no directory of services available - I had to ask "Where is the swimming pool? Lounge? Gym? Ice machine? Our room key kept malfunctioning and had to be replaced three time within out first two hours. After that, it worked fine. There was construction going on by the pools as they were building a new bar area. It was finished by the time we left and is beautiful. Since this facility is fairly new to the Marriott chain, I assume all of these issues will be corrected in time. Most of the staff speaks some English and we speak limited Spanish so there were no communication problems.

We booked an executive suite, which was basically a large room and not a typical suite with a separate bedroom, sitting area or table and chairs. It was large, well-appointed and well-maintained. The property has a magnificent pool area, featuring an infinity pool that overlooks the Bay of Panama and seems to stretch forever. The poolside furniture is very comfortable and the area is spacious.BUT, we were not forewarned that there were ongoing renovations at the pool, and the construction noise of banging and drilling was never-ending and very disturbing. The employees, who are numerous, are very friendly and anxious to help. Most speak no English so communicating was sometimes difficult. The general location of this hotel is preferable to many others as it does not feel as purely urban, but sits on the waterside.

This place was terrible. My friends and I booked rooms with them this weekend. When we got there to check in they advised us to wait for the rooms to be cleaned so we can all be on the same floor. Waited for an hour and the rooms were still not on the same floor. Check out process was terrible. We schedule for COVID test to be at 1:30 PM after we come back from one excursion and they said oh we moved it to 4 PM. They moved our covid test without our permission. This place is very disorganized. They had all the charges messed up the which resulted in the flights being canceled. Breakfast was free they ended up charging $44 us dollars per person. Stay away from them. They will not accommodate you at all for their mistakes that my problem. They don't care at all. Don't STAY HERE

First of all, let me comment on the positives of JW Marriott, Panama. All of the staff are very friendly and courteous; the hotel pools enjoy great views of the ocean and the breakfast choices in both restaurants - Masi and Tejas - are plentiful and delicious. Similarly, the food and beverages at the Azul poolside bar were very good, and represented good value for money.
Our room was spacious, but was showing signs of age e.g., light switches were tatty and worked haphazardly. One night when waking up to use the bathroom, there was no water at all to flush the toilet or to wash hands. Additionally, on at least one occasion there was no hot water for showering in the morning - not what is expected from this level of hotel, nor from the Marriott brand.
Furthermore, after a very busy and hot day of sightseeing, we returned to our room around 5pm to discover it hadn't been cleaned. Whilst this was rectified with 15 minutes or so, it was disappointing that it had been forgotten.
However, the age of the hotel and its fixtures and fittings, was truly reflected at the end of our stay. Whilst having a final drink with friends, at Azul, an hour before our transfer to the airport, the chair I had been sitting on suddenly collapsed from under me without warning. This caused me to be thrown forwards onto the marble floor, banging my knee and shin as a result. Although the manager asked if I was okay, and a waitress brought a bag of ice, no details were taken from me, nor was an accident form completed in my presence.
As we were on a tight time frame for our transfer, I was only able to 'ice' my shin and knee for a few minutes in our room, before our coach arrived.
Given that no details had been requested from me, my husband informed the front desk before our departure of what had happened. Additionally, I contacted the hotel on our return home, to express my concern at the lack of an accident form.
I have had a prompt response from their director of food and beverage, explaining that a request has been put to their furniture provider to replace all similar chairs as a preventative measure.
However, it is disappointing that I, as the guest, had to be proactive in all communications, rather than the hotel contacting me to check on my knee/leg. I have been left with a sore and bruised left shin as a result of the chair collapsing.
As a result, and as an independent travel agent who had higher hopes for my stay, hoping I could recommend the hotel to clients, I'm afraid that I'd advise caution regarding the property's star rating in relation to fixtures/fittings and availability of hot water on demand.
Hopefully, Marriott will invest more fully in the hotel soon, so that it can truly live up to its potential.

The location of this hotel for a short stay is really terrific, in the business/downtown area. A 30 to 40 minute drive from Tocumen Int. Airport, at 30$ USD. Exquisite entry/lobby, bar, restaurant and the infinity pools on the 13th floor are breathtaking. You can also hitch another taxi ride to the old quarters of the city which will take you about 15 minutes (about 20$ USD). The old city is both historically and architecturally speaking very appealing. Hotel personnel provides professional and polite service which we categorise as up to par, but nothing exceptional to report apart from having our room available for us earlier than scheduled. Our room (#1821) was very spacious and provides exceptional views of both the bay and city. We simply can not give a 4 or 5 star TA rating, because the building in some areas is just simply neglected (e.g. paint chipping extensively on the grand walls between each infinity pool), … in other words, apart from the lobby, main floor bar, lounge and restaurant, the building and furnishings need a lot of love, far beyond what one would expect at any other JW Marriott Hotel which is suppose to be the high end of the BonVoy brand range.

We really enjoyed our time at this location during our recent family trip to Panama City, Panama. The only ding I had was that the room could have use a more thorough cleaning, as we noticed some mold in our room, but I guess its difficult in such a humid climate.

The breakfast offered was delicious and the attendants were super involved and attentive. We were met with plenty of helpful hands while traveling with our little ones. We also loved our room and the view from our room during our stay at this hotel. Our refrigerator was stacked with plenty of refreshment if we required anything at a moments notice, but we decided not to purchase anything from the refrigerator while there - so no idea if the cost was reasonable. The pool area was enjoyed by the kids and we also enjoyed the poolside service we were offered while enjoying the pool.

We really liked most of the amenities during our time we spent at the JW Marriot and would be happy to stay at this hotel again in the future.

No...expensive and poor quality. Quiet, residential area only thing to walk to is the mall.

I didn't see a Ferry. The ride out to the canal (Agua Claro) took a little over an hour. The ride there and back cost $150.00. The cost to enter the visitor's center and see the locks in action was $15.00 per person.
