All of the glowing reviews about La Isabela are on point! My wife and I stayed at Hotel Colombia (La Isabela’s sister building on Plaza Simon Bolivar in Casco Viejo) in late November 2021 at the end of our honeymoon—which also included stays in Downtown Panama City and Bocas Del Toro. From the moment we booked our suite, Andres was in communication with us via email, providing us important information such as: 1) best modes of transport; 2) restaurant recommendations; and 3) COVID-19 testing options (as we are U.S. citizens and the U.S. was requiring a test to return home as of 11/2021) Upon arrival at La Isabela, Andres and his team greeted us and then Andres personally met us at Hotel Colombia to give us a lay of the suite, highlight different options for restaurants on a map, and point out various features of Casco Viejo. Moreover, during the stay, Andres was available via WhatsApp to answer questions, and even made dinner reservations for us one night. To boot, he often responded within 15 minutes. Hotel Colombia itself was fantastic. We enjoyed two levels in a historic building overlooking lively Plaza Bolívar, with cafes and restaurants below and the majestic SF Church across the plaza. As of 11/2021, La Isabela owned a few units in the building, with neighboring units being occupied by permanent residents. As such, our experience was thoroughly authentic—It was as if we were residents of the old quarter for a few days :) Finally, Andres was great at coordinating our COVID test, and even personally delivered the results to our room after hours. Gabriel, who drove us to and from the airports and the hospital (for the test) was also extremely pleasant and helpful. We enjoyed chatting with him and learning more about Panama. In sum, if you are staying in Panama City and Casco Viejo is on your radar, then I highly recommend La Isabela. Andres and his team provide a level of service you simply don’t receive elsewhere!

Look no further for an outstanding hotel experience in Panama City. We can’t say enough positive things about this charming boutique hotel and its excellent service. The courtyard suites are a perfect combination of authentic, sophisticated and comfortable. The location near art galleries and coffee shops in the Casco Viejo is perfect, and Andres and the rest of the staff deliver a world-class, five-star level of service. They accommodated our every wish in a professional and organized manner. We wish we could have stayed longer!

The property has two locations and I stayed in the secondary building. My first thought was that I wanted to be where there may be people and a lobby but after one night, I was sold on my location. Large church and water view, hot water quickly, large comfortable rooms.

Recently stayed at La Isabela after 10 days in an isolated area in NE Panama. Arrived tired and travel-frazzled; can't say enough how the manager Andres made our family feel welcome. The hotel is beautifully decorated; spotless rooms, but not sterile or cold; elegant without being snobby. Wonderful, quiet A/C, good internet, nice bathrooms. Nicely appointed kitchen suite, with all that we needed. Small details that made us feel welcome included not just complimentary tea and Panamanian coffee, but a container of fresh milk in the fridge to go with. Another example: at checkin, knowing we were new to the area, Andres marked a map to show useful places, like stores, scenic attractions, restaurants, and a pharmacy. I made a side comment to a family member noting that we would finally be able to get a toiletry item which had been in short supply during our trip. We had been in our room 15 minutes when there was a knock on the door, and Andres delivered a package of the item we needed, which he had picked up without asking. A small courtesy but it meant a lot after a long day of travel. One thing to be aware of: the hotel is on a very busy street in a part of Panama City that feels like party central. It was fun to sit at the front living room balcony, and watch the hustle and bustle of the street below. That said, some of the passing cars had stereo music playing so loud that it rattled the balcony windows. The bedrooms of our suite were set back and in general were somewhat insulated from street noise, but not completely. It wasn't as though there was a bar nearby that played music non stop; once the car moved through, the noise went away; but for very light sleepers, you'd want a suite or bedroom as far away from the road as possible. I wish we could have stayed longer.

We had a wonderful two days/nights at La Isabela. To start, Andres was amazingly helpful beginning from when we made our reservation - reaching out via email to offer assistance with reservations, ideas, etc. He also explained that our rooms were in a different building and ensuring we were ok with that. Our room (executive suites) was gorgeous - with a full kitchen, you could easily stay there long-term. The air conditioner was amazing for the hot, humid weather - it more than kept up, in fact we got cold during the night! A great relief from our days walking around the city. The balcony overlooking Plaza Simon Bolivar was beautiful, we spent each night sitting out there, enjoying the sights and sounds of Casco Viejo. The price was - coming from an American - extremely low for the level of service and meticulous state of the rooms (about $120/night). In short, I would not hesitate to stay here again and would recommend to anyone wanting an authentic Casco experience. The hotel itself does not have amenities - but Andres and staff were so incredibly welcoming, and we felt like we really experienced Casco Viejo.
