Our group of ten people stayed here for 2 nights at the end of a mission trip. The hotel was very nice and comfortable, with beautiful grounds and a relaxing feel. Our kids appreciated the small pool and we enjoyed both breakfast options (pancakes or traditional breakfast of eggs, beans, plantains, and fruit).

The staff was very helpful, as one in our group was sick and confined to the room and they brought him food, even customizing their available menu to try to get him something he could eat. That was very much appreciated!

The beds were comfortable and there were plenty of outlets to recharge phones. The only negative thing was that the shower didn't drain well, but that was a minor inconvenience.

We felt the city was very walkable and felt safe even at night. I would stay here again.

Stayed two nights. Room smelled like old, wood furniture. I even had freshener and it didn’t help. I constantly had the windows open which was an inconvenience as anyone walking by could look in. Beds were comfortable and outlets right behind each bed! Basic bathroom; no toiletries. You must ask for room cleaning. Breakfast only has two options: pancakes or eggs w beans. You can walk to town center but it’s scary to walk at night. Not sure this was a real pool; seemed more for decoration. Great Italian restaurant next door and small store at corner for snacks.

The facility itself is beautiful. Great design with nice buildings with an antique feel, lovely garden, and nice swimming area in the far corner.

The rooms are fine. Spacious with excellent shower/bath with working hot water. TV worked fine and upstairs rooms have a nice balconey overlooking the grounds.

The restaurant has a limited menu, but the meals are safe and good tasting. The staff is friendly but not as efficient as most Western tourists expect.

The main liability is its distance from central Antigua, but we had to stay here due to the vast number of tourists during Easter week. (We did have a procession pass by our first night, however)

I have just returned to the U.S. after leading a team of 31 people who served in an around Chimaltenango. We stayed for 7 nights at the Villa Colonial hotel.

This is an excellent place to stay, all across the board. The staff team did a wonderful job of accommodating us (with all of our needs, too!). The breakfast served each morning was great. The rooms clean, comfortable, and spacious. The area surrounding the hotel was safe, quiet, and beautiful.

I would absolutely recommend Hotel Villa Colonial and have every intention of returning with another team next year.

This hotel is part of a 5-star hotel association in Antigua. The layout, architecture, facilities and staff at the hotel are excellent. Food was also very good and reasonably priced. A few drawbacks: the location is a good 10-15 mins walk from downtown (which is where most of the sightseeing is), no problem during the day but at night you'll have to take a taxi back (about $3 USD) as the lighting on the hotel street is extremely poor. Some of the rooms are located very close to the parking lot and laundry area, so if you're a light sleeper you'll find the noise troublesome (so make sure you ask to stay away from those). Other than that, its a very enjoyable place to stay at.

On a trip to Antigua, Guatemala we stayed at the Villas Colonial, part of a small hotel chain in Guatemala. The city is a UNESCO world heritage site, and although the hotel is not ancient they have done a remarkable job of creating a truly colonial look. We couldn't believe the hotel was only 8 years old! The hotel was hosting 2 weddings as we arrived into what looked like a spanish villa. Apparently couples come from around the world to marry here. The hotel central courtyard has fountain gardens and a small pool. Each of the hotel rooms are a little different with cupolas, balconies, cobblestone streets and courtyards. All in our group ran around looking at each other's rooms! The food was the only disappointment but only because we had eaten like kings during our trip in Guatemala.
Antigua is a like a small mountain jewel with spectacular scenery and shopping. There are flowers everywhere even on the tiled roofs! It is a photographers delight. I can't wait to go back and spend a week there and I will stay at this hotel again;it is only a short pleasant walk into the city center, secure with superb staff attention. Morning coffee was brought to us accompanied with piping hot milk, and if you've never tried Guatemalan coffee GO and GET some!!!

I arrived at this hotel with Caravan Tours. This is totally laid out in colonial style, beautifly place. I had the cutest little room with a sky light!, the one wall inside my room was done in brick and i had a cute little courtyard..

The dinners and breakfasts were very delicious and they had great funky fruit juices to try!

You can walk from the town to the hotel, which i did alone and felt quite safe. I would definatively return!!

Very colonial setting - good food. Our guide reccommended not using pool. Very, very noisy at night in rooms on the outside edge. No screens, ac or fans, so you live with the bugs at night or roast. Locked in at night in the hotel complex for safety - but nowhere to go within easy walking distance anyway. The black mold on many of the bathroom walls created lots of problems for those on our tour who suffered from asthma. Would much rather pay a little more for more upscale hotel.

This is a pretty hotel within walking distance to the center of Antigua. We found our room to be very nice although many people in our group had much smaller rooms. Food is ok. Would not recommend it to anyone with mobility issue as steps to get to rooms and to dining room. Walk to Antigua center also a little further than other hotels and over uneven sidewalks.

When we arrived at the front desk, the three people behind the counter did not seem to know what they were doing, talked only among themselves and ignored the guests waiting for information or direction. We waited 10 minutes before they straightened out their confusion and gave us our room.

The room we were assigned to had a completely clogged wash basin. We notified the front desk and two workmen came to clear the stoppage. To our horror, they put the rubber toilet plunger in the wash basin to pump out the clog. We were definitely not going to use the wash basin after that, and asked for another room. They assigned us a smaller, uncomfortable room in the far end of the row.

But the hotel did prepare a relatively good breakfast-in-a-bag for our 5AM departure. They even prepared a pot of hot coffee.
