We spent two nights at this hotel. Room is spacious and adequate. Though no fault of the hotel, we experienced some sleepless moments in the late evening because of continuous chanting over loudspeaker all night in a nearby monastery. Our tour guide said that it is normal in January and February. If you stay here, please ask for a room facing the opposite direction of the monastery regardless of which month you will be visiting, if you want a good sleep!

Mandalay is a place that is fast growing to be a business hub on its own. That said, the disparity in the various areas in Mandalay in terms of development pace is also still rather wide.
This hotel is actually situated close to the heart of all activities in Mandalay. ( In Mandalay, it is good to be staying within 35th Street and 72th street. That's where the heart of the city is ). Amenities is very basic. Think 1 light in the toilet, 70s wooden furniture and AC powered NOT centrally.
Overall, though, it is a hotel that offers clean sheets and bedding. Other than that, nothing to rave about EXCEPT that it has free wifi which is the main reason why I chose to stay here :)

I spend one night here with my family (group tour). The room is quite old and the wifi signal is weak. It's so noisy at night and we could not get enough sleep. The breakfast is not delicious actually. Mandalay is a lovely city with beautiful sights but the staying experience in this hotel was not good actually.

One of the best places I've stayed after many months travelling in Asia! I was lucky to get an 11th floor room... Amazing views of the city from the windows! Breakfast was phenomenal! Buffet with so much choice. Facilities great. Pool and gym also on-site (not sure if costs extra)? Location maybe a little far from the best restaurants and main Mandalay hotspots though.

This hotel has seen better days. The room doesn't have any power by the night stand to charge phone. The beds are lumpy and they give only one pillow per bed. Opened the curtains and the windows has head prints from weeks or months ago. The complaints breakfast is not even close to English breakfast. It was more suited for Chinese.

I stayed 2 nights at the Shwe Phyu Hotel in Mandalay as part of a Buddhist pilgrimage tour to Myanmar. Our previous experience with the hotels in the country had been patchy. In line with the nature of our visit, the group's requirements for accommodation are essentially rather basic - a good clean room, comfortable bed, nice hot shower, tranquillity, appropriate air-conditioning, decent food/breakfast and what has become de rigueur nowadays, internet/wi-fi connectivity within the rooms. In this regard, the Shwe Phyu Hotel ticks most of the right boxes. Indeed, I had a large room to myself, overlooking the Shan Hills, in which there was more than ample space for me to stretch and to do my morning yoga exercises.

By all accounts, this is not a romantic hotel designed for honeymooning couples; the solo intrepid traveller will probably also prefer something with more "character" in line the image of an "exotic" Far-East. There was a reviewer who had noted that there was nothing Burmese about the hotel. This is probably true, as the Shwe Phyu feels/is managed like a 3-star Mainland Chinese hotel, with the facade's Chinese-language signage, selection of newspapers as well as TV channel programming. Mandalay, apparently, has seen a growth in Chinese visitors from across the border and the hotel is also trying to capture this segment of the market. Again, nothing is good or bad in itself, it is a matter of aligning expectations and of course, one's wallet...

The hotel was a good base from which to explore Mandalay's beautiful temples and the surrounding regions such as Mingun. I slept well on both nights and also managed to get a decent foot massage at the spa on the second floor on one of the evenings. The 2 main grouses with my stay were: the bathroom lights could have been brighter, and breakfast/service more consistent as the morning breakfast crowd can be quite large depending on the number of tour groups there. We did not have lunch or dinner at the hotel.

In summary, a good budget stay and among the better ones we had patronised during the week-long trip to Myanmar.

This is a review of a stay in February 2014.

Rooms , poorly furnish .Nothing much to say . Staff also average for the Myanmar . The bad experience is in my breakfast time. The staff did not look after the guest even few guests in the breakfast room. I pick up some drink and leave on the table and get other meals to eat . When I return to my table , already clear everything. This happen not once , three time. whenever I go and pick up something , they clear every thing on my table without thinking anything. I have pick up my coffee for two time because they clear my table even I did not drink the coffe yet . Do the job without caring the guest.

Actually, this hotel was just what we needed. This hotel had a brand new feeling and the rooms are spotless. The beds are very comfortable and the rooms is well equiped and spacious. It seems that this place is very attractive for Business people. The breakfastbuffet is very big, but mostly warm traditional Birmese dishes. If you like a Western kind of breakfast you might be disappointed. The only weird thing is that this hotel offers a very expensive taxi service, but they can also call a cheaper one for going to the airport for example (?) The location is not that convenient for the centre and restaurants of Mandalay and they will tell you that you have to take a taxi to go somewhere.

I was not at all impressed by this place. It had the feeling of being old & neglected.

Room was very basic, was loud from the music coming from outside in the evening. The restaurant had only beer and no other drinks. It was difficult to enjoy the beer outside near the pool in the evening because of the invasion of mosquitoes. There were no channels on TV other than Myanmar and Chinese.

I will have to complain to my travel organizer for placing me in this mediocre hotel.

Never again!
