We booked in this hotel where just a girl could speak english but we managed that and she had been very helpful about anything we asked her. The location is not in the centre so you need to walk a little bit or take a taxi ( not so easy at night ) . Of course the place is quite cheap

We sent an email beforehand asking if they had non smoking rooms/floors, because I'm very allergic to cigarette smoke. The answer was, yes. On arrival we got the key and asked again if it was on a non smoking floor. Yes, was the answer again. Room was, ok, little small and very low ceiling. Bathroom was also small with the shower directly next to the toilet, a small window with bars in front of it, windows didn't close properly, internet didn't work and the the ac was very dirty, you could see it in and around. The ac was positioned in between the two beds above your head, 50$. Hotel is right along a very busy road. Beds were very comfortable and the room was clean, had a safe box in the room and some international channels on the tv. After 2 hours I smelled a strong cigarette smell, and the whole hallway was filled with cigarette smoke.
Reception staff had changed and they told me that we were on a smoking floor? So, lets move to the non smoking floor. But they don't have one, everywhere they were smoking, in the lobby, rooms, hallways, disgusting! I got the manager and I explained, he was very arrogant and said that we could pick another room, any room? I explained about my health issues and asked him, do you have a non smoking floor. Yes, the 4th floor. Well that was a lie, because in every room you can smoke. We just wanted to stay 1 night and I asked, informed and explained beforehand. Could not believe that people can be so dishonest if it concerns somebodies health, how greedy can you be? It was storming and raining outside, so asked if they would arrange a taxi, they had lied 3 times on purpose, we had to go to another hotel, so that is the least they could do. Got the manger again and he was still going on about picking rooms and that he would be there at 21:00, unbelievable this greed. So he agreed to arrange a taxi. Our next hotel was 1,5 km apart from this one. When we got out, the driver wanted to have 8$! The nerve to ask 8$ for 1,5 km (3 minutes). We told him that Aung Gyi Soe Hotel would pay, as agreed with the manager. He called and the manager said no. He agreed to me that he said that, but he would not pay the taxi driver, well neither did we. So was a lot of calling and angry conversations. Driver left. Next morning we had the same driver to bring us to the airport and he told us that the hotel refused to pay him. So we paid him 2$ instead of 8$, because that was a ridiculous price for 1,5 km. So if you want to smoke in your room, or don't mind that everyone else smokes in the entire building, it is an option, but 50$ is too expensive for the type of room. There is nothing in the surroundings besides a Thai restaurant, but they charge 11$ for a fish, 5$ for a fried rice. Hotel also has a restaurant, also expensive and looked shabby. It is 45 minutes to the city center and airport (12.000k) and 5 minutes from the east bus station (Hsipaw). Can not recommend.

After a trekking in the mountains my trip brought me in Mandalay. I needed some comfort, a good bed and a fresh bathroom. I enjoyed staying in this hotel in a de luxe room. I slept so good and the breakfast was nice, so after my staying in Mandalay I had energy for the next stop in Myanmar. The only point is the level of English of the employees.
