My first stop in Laos, this was a delightful small hotel, close to the city centre. Basic but welcoming and comfortable. No swimming pool (Unesco rules prevent any being built). Wonderful to get up before dawn and see the lines of monks collecting food house by house.
We loved our stay at the Villa Chitdara. It's a beautiful little B&B in a great location just a short stroll to everything you want to see in town. The B&B is just down the road from L'Elephant Restaurant, which was a highlight of our dining on this trip. Our room was very comfortable and had all the amenities, including the best WiFi we had on our trip through Asia. Our room faced the street and had a small balcony so in the mornings we could watch the daily procession of monks winding past. Even so it was very quiet and relaxing. The breakfast was very good with plenty of choices.
Clean and spacious. The toilet is clean but the drainage got clogged so had some issues with bathing. Location is okay, near a food stall, not halal though. It's a 10 mins walk to the market and a 10mins walk to the halal Indian stall. When walking back to the hotel at night from the market, just be a bit more careful as the area is not well lit
Overall, this is a superb value for money establishment. It is quirky and has everything you need. The standard rooms are spacious, clean and equipped with good A/C, TV, tea/coffee, balcony overlooking garden or quaint&quiet residential road. Bathroom great and modern.
Hotel located opposite a great little shop for everyday needs. And is just 2min walk from Mekong and 4min from the infamous night market & Main Street.
Breakfast is served 7-10 daily with a good range and hot options too if requested.
The staff are informative when you approach and ask them a question. They all speak English but not fluently. You need to speak in basic format.
The only 2 small poor factors were: 1. We hired hotel bicycles for $1 each but 1 broke and we were forced to walk all the way back to the hotel. The staff apologised but didn’t seem at all bothered when we pointed out the repair and would have been courteous to offer a refund as a goodwill.
2. We requested an early on chargeable late check out following their offer to, after reading the in-room hotel folder, but when we asked, we were made to feel like we were a problem. The hotel has 25rooms and we were just 1 of 3 occupied, so what the issue was we didn’t understand. They looked on the computer and said that our room was booked for someone on the day we depart. But what about the other 22rooms we thought? It’s a small factor I know, but it left us feeling very awkward. In the end, closer to our departure day, we enquired again and we agreed a $20 fee to stay on in our room.
