Once the home of Lao royalty, today Villa Maly is an exquisite boutique hotel, surrounded by luscious tropical gardens. Its rooms evoke the subdued elegance and creative touches of a bygone time. The hotel's 33 guest rooms are each subtly created to incorporate time-honored Laotian architecture with an essence of the Colonial past.

Detailed Reviews
After a short transfer from the airport, check in at Villa Maly was warm and efficient and we were upgraded to Room 2 in the main house with all the expected amenities. A lovely boutique hotel in a great location for the town with lovely staff and facilities. Enjoyed a variety of restaurants from local to high end French style including Manda de Laos with its beautiful setting and just minutes away. The Night market was fantastic and fortunately we stocked up on gifts for the family (little did we know we would have to abandon our tour later due to Covid-19).Whilst all the staff at Villa Maly were great, special mention to Edelie (from France) who asked us at breakfast on the first morning if all was Ok. Everything lovely we replied except there was no mirror adjacent a plug socket for the hairdryer (fundamental for my wife). Same day they removed a picture above a socket and hung a mirror. In addition the manager gave us a late check out which was greatly appreciated. Would certainly stay here again.

The Villa Maly Boutique Hotel is very charming and tastefully decorated in a colorful, warm, cosy exotic style with natural materials like wood.
The whole hotel complex has an airy light and very comfortable feeling. The swimmingpool with luxurious deckchairs in opulent red chinese style, surrounded by a lush and very well kept garden is one of the highlights.
The breakfast is delicous and of high quality. A mix of western food and Laos specialties, not to mention the fresh fruit and home made fruit juices and Marmelade. Every day the chef and his crew prepared new delicacies for us.
At breakfast they served a "to die for" delicious lime marmelade and on my request if we could buy some to take home with house, within one day the prepared 2 huge jars with freshly made marmelade for us.
The staff is very friendly and attentive and gave us the feeling to stay with friends.
We very warmly can reccommend Maly Boutique Hotel!

My wife and I stayed here for 4 days as part of a larger trip that meant we travelled here from Bangkok and then onwards from here to Vietnam and Cambodia. I would recommend Luang Prabang to anyone visiting Indochina and would definitely recommend Villa Maly for your stay here.
The room we had was very comfortable and had a television, large safe and minibar. There was no iron or ironing board, but the hotel does provide a laundry service. However, there are other laundry services available on the same street and they are much cheaper than the hotel. That is not a criticism of the hotel, but we felt that it was better to give our money to the small local businesses as they need it more. Maid service was daily, unless you put up a notice saying it was not required.
Breakfast was very pleasant, and a good start to each day. We did not eat in the hotel at night, as the town is vibrant and has a very lively street market, with many places to eat, from street food to good restaurants.
Staff in all areas of the hotel were very pleasant and helpful, especially my friend Pheng who kept me supplied with nice cold BeerLao when I was at the pool area. Be sure to make the best of "Happy Hour". The pool area area was right outside our room door, so we couldn't have been better placed. There are comfortable sun loungers dotted around the good-sized pool.
The hotel offers many excursion opportunities, at very competitive prices, and we booked two of them. The first was on the Nava Mekong cruise, which took us up the Mekong River to the Pak Ou Caves and to Whisky Island. The second trip was a private van, booked through the hotel, which took us to the beautiful Kuang Si falls, stopping at an elephant sanctuary and a bear-rescue centre on the way. The elephant sanctuary was an optional extra, which we were originally going to pass on, but we are so glad we changed our minds and stopped there. We were able to take one of the older elephants for a 'walk' along the banks of the Mekong and that memory will live with us forever.
I will upload several photos along with this review, so you can see how pleasant the hotel and its surroundings really are. We found it far more attractive than the photos we had seen in the brochure.
I would highly recommend Villa Maly, and would definitely stay here again if we ever return to beautiful Luang Prabang.

The service was fantastic: Room made up in the morning, bed turned down in the evening, and two fresh cookies every day. Dining room staff were attentive at breakfast and focused on preparing food the way I wanted it.
Location was excellent: One block off a main street it was quiet and peaceful day and night while a very short walk to bright lights and temples.
This was the first time I've ever slept under mosquito netting.

We were a party of 7, taking 3 rooms and stayed at the end December 2019. From the moment we arrived everything there was perfect. Great breakfasts, yummy lunches by the pool and a terrific group of staff that always went the extra mile to arrange tours or transport or just give general advice. In fact they arranged a cooking course for us at The Bamboo Tree Cooking School. They did detailed research on pricing, availability and numbers of people per class, and offered 4 alternative cooking schools. The cooking class out in the garden at The Bamboo Tree was the highlight of our stay in Luang Prabang. If you have a chance make sure you book in. We loved our 7 days at Villa Mally, but just wished the pool was warmer!!

We stayed at Villa Maly Boutique Hotel for four nights while in Luang Prabang.
I can’t say enough good things about the staff and manager at the hotel. From the dining room staff at breakfast to the bartender and desk staff we were well taken care of during our stay.
The location is on a quiet side street just a short walk or tuk tuk ride to the main areas of the city that had dining, temples, and shops. The staff was helpful in answering questions and arranging tours if needed. Check on arrival and they will arrange any tours you may be interested in.
Beautiful pool area, rooms were immaculate, and the grounds well maintained. We will stay here on our next visit !

The location is great, out of the busy main part of town and only a 5 -25 min walk away (depending on where you need to go). 5 min walk to night market, 25 min to the end of the little peninsula. So everything is very close. Everything you need is also on the closer side. There's a money exchange, massage, nail, hair salon etc. all within a short walk.
The staff are very polite. Housekeeping is very good at their job. Every night for turn down service they would also spray the room with bug spray. Despite Laos being in the jungle basically, there were not many bugs in the room, only the if one, which was a pleasant surprise. Housekeeping does not speak English, so anything you may need just ask the front desk and they can tell them. Front desk staff and restaurant staff speak great English.
A special thank you to the restaurant staff; Lai greeted guests every morning with a lovely smile and warm greetings. The waitresses and waiter at the restaurant were very attentive, polite, friendly and great at their jobs. I only ate the restaurant for breakfast, but the breakfast was great. They have a menu, or buffet, depending on how many guests are staying at the hotel. I experienced both, and both were plentiful.
The rooms are nice and a good size. Firm beds and comfortable pillows. Air conditioner worked great. Enough space to unpack my things. Internet not the greatest for streaming or downloading, would cut out sometimes, but only momentarily. Bathroom big enough for one person at a time. Bathrooms do not have an outlet, which makes doing your hair challenging. They have a small mirror on the desk in the room and there are outlets to use there.
The pool area is fantastic! There are always beds in the sun or in the shade, depending what you want.
Overall, a great stay!

Villa Maly is a lovely colonial style hotel within easy walking distance of the centre of Luang Prabang. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the food and wine was excellent. The rooms and pool area are surrounded by vegetation which makes you feel you could be in the middle of the forest rather than in the city. A very relaxing place to stay.

We recently had the pleasure of staying two nights here and enjoyed it immensely.
It's located a little outside the main hustle and bustle of the town but, as it's only a 10 minute walk, we found that a benefit rather than a problem. The hotel offers free bike hire if you want them.
The staff were polite and helpful and the decor was stylish and contemporary. The pool is set in the gardens and the breakfast was well prepared.
The only negative was that this is quite an expensive place to stay if you're traveling in South East Asia. Of course we knew that when we booked, and don't regret it but, having now stayed in several more hotels in the region, we have experienced quality almost as good for half the price.
Possibly this is just a question of supply and demand in Luang Prabang.

Stayed here in Nov '19 and absolutely happy with the decision. the Main Street/ night market is like a 8 minute walk- absolutely safe to walk around even at night. The breakfast spread is just right and the rooms and bathrooms are of decent size. The highlight of the hotel is the service- from Manager who is a French lady to everyone at the hotel are helpful, warm and hospitable!
Strongly recommend.

Dear Sophie,
Thanks for your kind interest in the swimming pool of Villa Maly. Kindly be advised that the hotel's pool is available for in-house guests only for its area is modest.
Kind regards,

Dear keentogoSydney,
Please accept our sincere apology for the delay to respond to your question, it was only alerted to us this morning and I'm embarrassed to see that it's a few weeks old! We are happy to report that the large pots that have caused much of the previous commentary on Trip Advisor reviews have all been removed, so the space issue has been managed now. Our deluxe rooms are very generous in bathroom size and in July we can make a very attractive offer for you! Thank you for the kind feedback about our hotel - we hope to have the chance to welcome you personally! If I can offer any assistance, please don't hesitate us directly. Apologies, I can not add an email address to this message!
