Hidden in the lush green jungle that surrounds the historic royal settlement of Luang Prabang, a river—emanating from a flowing waterfall—runs through the heart of this exotic retreat. Taking its cue from the French-Lao architecture for which the town is known, the interiors reflect the influences of ancient temples, while luxurious tented villas celebrate the explorer spirit.

On the same trip, we stayed at both Rosewood, Amantaka, and Grand Luang Prabang. Rosewood was the clear winner for us. The setting was tranquil and beautiful, the rooms luxurious, and the service excellent. We also appreciated the environmentally friendly practice of providing bottled water in glass bottles rather than plastic. For travelers with disabilities, however, there may be challenges, as there are lots of steps going up and down everywhere. We stayed in one the private villas with a private pool: the pool is quite small (about the size of two standard jacuzzis), and is private only in use and not in visibility (only you can use it but neighbors can see you). Our friends had one of the suites, which did not have pool but had sitting and dining rooms which the private villa did not have. Both villa and suite have outdoor decks. So if you want more space, I'd go with one of the suits.

Dear Travelhui, Thank you for your review. We are so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Rosewood Luang Prabang and found it to be the best out of the three options you tried during your visit to Laos. Our location is certainly ideal when it comes to experiencing the tranquility and lush of the destination, but at the same time giving you access to some of the best attractions in the city. We appreciate your feedback regarding the plunge pool and space in our suites. We are also elated that you enjoyed the legendary Rosewood service. Me & my partner celebrating our 19th anniversary at this beautiful resort on February 2020. It's begin with a perfect welcoming ritual while we reach the hotel, they gave us a complimentary neck and shoulder massage while the staff arrange check-in at the lobby.
After check in they sent us to our villa, we found a complimentary bubbles wines and cake which we didn't expected. They also gave out small little souvenir every night after the turn down service which are so thoughtful. We have a wonderful stay for the first 3 nights with a romantic sunset boat rides, we also having our romantic dinner celebration that set up right beside the waterfall deck within the resort compound.
Unfortunately on the last day of our stay, I broke my knee while using our villa pool deck which are barrier free. Hotel staff immediately arrange an emergency team to help after the accident and arrange a complimentary stay for us because we miss our flights back.
Despite above unfortunate events, me and my partner still feel like home throughout our stay and after I return from the hospital. Almost all the hotel staff really give their 100% effort to make sure I well taking care of.
We definitely will coming back and really wish all the staff stay healthy and well being. Cheers!

We travelled to Rosewood in August 2019, after reading about the socially responsible experiences offered by the hotel and it's eco friendly vibe designed by Bill Bensley. Wow, we were totally blown away. Totally inkeeping with it surroundings the hotel manages to blend at ease with the trees and natural landscape while the tented rooms seem to offer a totally natural hideaway blending easily in to their surrounds. This place is total luxury but manages to pull it off in an unpretentious and refined.
Our room was beautiful and the little touches like the homemade cocktails, local snacks and spa minitures were delightful at the end of a wonderful day of experiences.
The hotel staff were possibly the lovliest and friendliest we have met on our travels, they were amazing with our 4 children, arranging activities for them everyday and leaving them gifts in our room. During our stay they arranged for us to do fishing, see the dragon boat racing with the locals and we even did some meditation as a family in a local temple on one of the authentic experiences offered by the hotel. The food was incredible and we loved the cooking class we participated in. Our 4 children joined in by making pizzas.
Rosewood showed us the real Lao and we the experience as a whole touched our souls. We will definately be back, thank you so much absolutely everything.

We spent three nights at their Hilltop Tent. It was breathtaking, peaceful and luxurious at the same time. Hiking up to our tent everyday was an experience on its own. The restaurant was great with many choices. The food was authentic and delicious.

Services were first-class. Staff were all very nice and attentive. As soon as someone sees us in the pool, they would bring us the sunscreen, drinks and towels. The hotel also helped us arrange a tour to Kuang Si Waterfall. While the hotel might be a bit far away from the city centre, they do have private cars to take us there. One night we were at a local market and there was a driver just dropped some other guests off and saw us about to leave. Apparently they know all their guests! The driver took us back so it definitely saved us some waiting time.

Will definitely recommend this hotel if you ever get to Luang Prabang. Rosewood never fails you!

I feel somewhat conflicted about Rosewood Luang Prabang. The property is beautiful, set among a lush forest alongside a bubbling river intermittently broken attractively by waterfalls. The small pool and the Great House for breakfast and dining are pretty and captivatingly lit by lanterns at night. The staff are completely adorable - sincere, thoughtful, attentive, and capable. But there is clearly an understaffing issue, (having to go and find someone to order a drink from the lovely Elephant Bar, and the same few staff working startling long hours.) We were there at a period of low occupancy, and the enthusiasm and energy of the staff meant that this never spilled over into a problem, but at Rosewood’s adventurous pricing I feel there should be a sense of abundance of service, rather than the opposite. The property is 10 minutes drive from the lovely town, which would be a distinct disadvantage were it not for the apparently constantly available shuttle both to take and collect. Some of the infrastructure was just beginning to show signs of disrepair, (rusty screws in the plunge pools, pool ladders not fixed to walls, some peeling paint) - surprising given that the post Covid reopening was only a few weeks previous to our visit. And undoubtedly lovely though the property is, this ambitious level of pricing simply raises expectations which i felt were just not quite met. A slight disappointing sense of anticlimax, compared to similar properties in Asia. One small thing and one larger: there is no gym, and to compensate the hotel arrange for guests to use the gym at the neighbouring Pullman hotel. Which requires the payment of US$6. For a room priced at US$1000 per night, this just seems embarrassingly tacky. Is it beyond the wit of management sort this behind the scenes and waive the charge to guests? The bigger issue is the ongoing problem of non-stop Lao pop music from a “popular” bar/restaurant neighbour just across the river. If you were paying US$1000 a day with the objective of lying by your plunge pool to enjoy complete calm and relaxation, this would be a deal breaker. Various generations of management have tried to resolve the problem, but it remains unsolved.

I enjoyed the Rosewood Luang Prabang’s lush jungle location in February 2020. With stunning French-Laos architecture, the buildings, villas and mountainside luxury tents are each completely unique, reflecting ancient influences and filled with history. Special thank you to Ms. Daorueang, Director of Rooms, for our tour so we could appreciate this.

The river/ creeks running through the property provide a beautiful natural soundtrack and also keep the surroundings lush and green. And the bar is a perfect spot to truly take all of this in. The main pool is perfect for enjoying some sun and peace, and the pool side massages are the perfect touch. Delicious food. Wonderful staff and service top to bottom.

Thank you to the Managing Director, Mr. Guillermo, for his kind welcome (& goodbye at departure!) Will definitely be recommending this property

Rosewood LP is one of the very few properties that words cannot justify how beautiful it’s and one that needs to be there to appreciate it. It exemplifies luxury and elegance in its simplicity.

My wife and I spent 3 nights at the Waterfall pool villa in this beautiful property to celebrate her birthday and it’s beyond our expectations.

The design of the property respects and blends in seamlessly with its surroundings.

There is no TV or high tech gadget in the room and they are honestly not needed. The sound of the running water and the smell of fresh air are already reinvigorating enough. One small suggestion would be considering some gym facilities / relaxation classes in this beautiful environment.

Food and beverages were delicious with local produce focused. Breakfast was always a bliss. Complementary neck and shoulder massage before lunch and dinner was a pleasant experience.

Ott, Adrien and team had created a genuine welcoming atmosphere with heart, where we felt at home.

We felt that we were always in good hands; from the meticulously housekeeping to organising activities or suggestions - which Ott always had the answers.

We were particularly moved when my wife had a minor injury to her ankle at a hiking activity, our guide Noi (who happened to be an agriculturalist and we leant much talking to him) made a walking stick from tree on the spot for her and the team back in the hotel was made aware prior to our return and sent their regards to her when we’re back, and placed us a smoothing cream with a handwritten message in our villa. This personal touch defined experience.

This is our first Rosewood resort experience and it certainly has set the standard. We will remember their smiles.

What a spectacular hotel. Nothing less than breathtaking. The atmosphere, the furniture (antiques), room decoration are blending in perfectly with nature. There is a small creek running through the entire estate which immediately sets the tone of peace and becoming one with nature. Do take the walk up to Tat Kuang Si waterfall and the sunset cruise on the Mekong river. No words can describe the experiende.
The staff is impeccable and the manager Guillermo did everything possible to make our staff unforgettable. We will certainly come back.

Tucked in the lush tropical jungle with a waterfall running through the property, this is paradise. The colonial main building and room decor transport you back to the past. The Elephant bar sits over the creek, where you can enjoy your drinks, listening to the sound of the waterfall. The hotel provides transportation to town and they gave us a phone so our driver is always a few minutes away. A private sunset Mekong River cruise is a highlight of our stay! We were splurged with delicious Laotian canapes and wine while watching the the locals winding down their days. Nothing can top Laotian sincere service from all the staff. You will not be disappointed.

-We have traveled widely and stay at luxury resorts, this is among the very best anywhere.
The service is attentive, not intrusive, and makes you feel like a guest at a private estate
The meals are excellent and the cuisine is Lao-focused and always interesting.
While there is much to do in Luang Prabang, it is the Laotian ethos at the resort and in the city that makes this so special.

From what I remember, if you book the rooms (not villas or treehouses), you should be able to be near each other and the building is close to the dining/reception. There will be some stairs though. I don't think they have buggies to go to rooms here.

I'm not sure but I think so. The rides to and from town are free and in a very nice SUV. I bet the airport transfers are also included b/c it is so perfectly managed. The included breakfast is amazing--order anything on the menu--or everything on the menu--all included!
