We are a beautiful boutique hotel with a personal touch, located on the tip of the peninsula, at the very end of the old town, on the UNESCOs World Heritage Area. The view you have from the rooms and Café/Restaurant is the meeting of great Mekong River and Nam Khan River. The Hotel is quiet and peaceful with the beautiful former Royal temple Wat Xiengthong as your neighbor. Please note that our Pool/Spa is closed until further notice.

Detailed Reviews
My husband and I stayed at the Mekong Riverview Hotel for four nights. The location is at the end of the peninsula at the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Kahn rivers.
The pros:
Excellent location, quiet but walkable to all the fun in town.
The breakfast is served at the Riverview Cafe, a restaurant open to the public for lunch and dinner. The view is spectacular, overlooking the rivers and the bamboo bridge. You can order eggs any style or crepes as well as serve yourself from the buffet of fresh fruit, cheeses, etc.
You have use of city cruiser bikes for free.
The pool is located over the bamboo bridge. It’s a fun adventure to meet the tuk tuk on the other side, where you are driven to the pool and spa. The pool is beautiful, with salt water instead of chlorine and long enough for laps. We spent a couple afternoons there, sitting in the shade of an umbrella and looking out over the forest and mountains.
The con:
I have give four stars rather than five because the rooms are tired and need refreshing. They are a bit dismal and need new paint and bathroom remodeling. Our shower had mildew in the tile grout, and the wooden countertops surrounding the sinks need to be replaced. Also, the balcony was so narrow that it was difficult to sit at the table and chairs. Request a room in the main building which has larger balconies. Also, second floor rooms are more pleasant—there’s a lot of foot traffic on the street, very close to the ground floor rooms.

The Mekong Riverview is located right on the Mekong and within steps of many of Luang Prabang's historic wats. It is close to restaurants and easy to get to other locations because the hotel will help take you via their golf carts. We used their laundry service which was quick and affordable so we didn't have to pack as much. We also used the pool which is on the other side of the bamboo bridge. It's a bit of a walk, but understandable as no pools are allowed on the historic area of Luang Prabang due to UNESCO rules. They would also pick you up on the other side and take you to the pool via a golf cart tuk tuk. The hotel staff helped us book a boat to the Pak Ou caves, as well.

That’s what I would give this hotel. From the minute we were welcomed at the door til our check out I felt at home with friends . The hotel itself is beautiful and designed with care and attention to detail. The grounds are gorgeous and maintained without being overly manicured. The restaurant and the food are delicious and the view overlooking the Mekong is priceless. But it is above all the people who work there that make it such an extraordinary place. They clearly love working there and are proud to be part of such a special place. And when you meet Mr Urban the owner and learn his story and his commitment to Laos you get it. He cares so much about his community that they have built and maintain a lovely park open to everyone situated next to the hotel’s restaurant. Everyone is welcome there. You overlook a bamboo bridge which you can walk over to reach the other side of the river. A short walk takes you to their spa complete with salt water swimming pool and services.
Close to the hotel is one of the great Wats in Luang Prabang. The staff are happy to kindly educate you about the proper way to observe the early morning alms giving. The hotel is nestled in a quiet area of the riverside and a five minute walk to the old city which is enchanting. Don’t get caught up in the hype and experience the meditative aspect of this very spiritual ritual. And the Mekong Riverview Hotel is the perfect place from where to do this. I will be coming back.

I didn’t want to leave this hotel! The staff were so helpful and professional, not only at the hotel but also the breakfast area and the spa (great massage, Keth). The location is unbeatable and the view as you’re having breakfast is unparalleled. You’ll appreciate all the little details that will make your stay memorable. Stayed at the guest house and had an amazing time. Located in the “old town” this hotel is clean, comfortable and the staff is very attentive. The have a golf cart to take you to any attraction in the old town which cut down on tuk tuk cost. The breakfast that comes with your stay is at the restaurant that overlooks the Mekong River for great views and atmosphere.

Everything about this hotel is perfect. The position in Luang Prabang is wonderful. Our room had a gorgeous view of the river from our balcony which had a fan and was only a short walk from everything else you would like to see or do in the town. The beds were super comfortable and the room had all the little touches that make a good hotel special. The hotel’s restaurant across the road serves delicious Laotian and international food and is right on the river. The swimming pool was lovely and the massage perfect. Total care was taken so that, even with joint problems, the masseuse made me feel a million dollars. The best thing however were the staff, who were unfailingly kind, efficient and good humoured. I would recommend anyone to stay at this hotel. You’d love it,

The hotel staff were proactive in offering transportation from the train station & our driver was punctual & polite. Upon arrival & and check-in, hotel staff were very friendly & and professional-who offered us a map of LP and pointed out all places of interest; bicycles are also available to use for exploring around town. The actual hotel is quaint and lovely, located overlooking the beautiful riverside, we chose not to have a riverside room, but our standard room was wonderful, comfortable, clean, and offered all we needed. We had a lovely breakfast at the hotel restaurant overlooking the river & also offered a peaceful morning while having your breakfast. The general location of the hotel is relaxed & central enough to be able to stroll around & explore the hazy streets of Luang Prabang.

Hotel was in a good location for my first time to Luang Prabang. Set on a quiet street on the river about a 15 minute walk to the main drag. The hotel comes with breakfast and has a pool offsite via the bamboo bridge - a fun little trek. Breakfast was provided every morning in which you can order a western or Lao option. Continental items were also provided for lighter eaters. The yogurts (locally made and included flavors such as kiwi and mango) and croissants were particularly good and both seemed quite fresh. The owner, Urban, came around on multiple occasions to greet guests and introduce himself which is a very thoughtful touch. All service in the hotel was warm and positive. No service issues at all. While I would recommend the hotel wholeheartedly due to the staff and location a knocked a star for a few small reasons. 1. I found it a little weird the bathroom had a urinal it in (again just being nit picky). 2. Hot water ran out (this may be commonplace in Laos, no idea as it was my first time). 3. The pool was cold despite it being advertised as heated in the winter months (we were there in Jan). Again, I would recommend the hotel just advising of a few small quirks. I had a wonderful time and hope to return to Luang Prabang again one day as it is a beautiful city.

Dear IcedMachiatto, Thank you so much for staying with us at the Mekong Riverview Hotel and for taking the time to write this review! We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your time with us here in Luang Prabang. We will make sure to pass on your kind comments to our staff in our next meeting! Please let us comment on your feedback about the few issues: 1. Urinal: they actually help us save water 2. Hot water: We apologize sincerely, there has been a problem with the hot water while you were here. We fixed the problem now. 3. Pool temperature: Unfortunately, there have been some delays by our contractor for the heating pump of our pool. Therefore, for the time being, we can not offer the advertised 32°c. As an apology, we offer a complimentary hot beverage to the visitors of our Spa and work hard to fix the problem as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding. +1
Luang Prabang very much reminds me of Hoi An, Vietnam without the overcrowded tourism. As the hotel is in the old town, which is UNESCO protected area, no hotels can have swimming pools. The pool for the Mekong Riverview is over a bamboo bridge which adds to the enchantment of the place. Our room was the furthest away from reception, but nearer to the monastery. Although we didn’t get up to see the alms giving, we still experienced it by the waft of incense and the bonging of the drum in the early hours. The room was very nice with plenty of complimentary T&C and toiletries. There was also complimentary T&C in reception. Breakfast was very nice in the restaurant across the road overlooking the river Khan/Mekong. One evening we were also invited for drinks along with other guests in the garden with the hotel owner.

Our room was on the ground floor overlooking the Mekong River. I had been concerned about noise from the road but it was not a problem at all. It is a one-way street, mostly scooters or bikes and very quiet at night.
The room was extremely comfortable, big beds plus the option of AC and/or a ceiling fan. The bathroom was perfect - 2 sinks & a great shower. We also had 2 comfy chairs on our porch which was great for chilling & watching the world go by.
A highlight was breakfast every morning right on the water's edge. The hotel's restaurant is across the road and has prime position where the Nam Kham joins the Mekong. You can also watch people crossing the bamboo bridge & the locals going about their daily business.
Hotel staff are lovely and very helpful. They organised transport to the waterfalls and booked golf for us.
Definitely take the hotel bicycles out for a tour around the town, very safe & easy way to travel.
The spa & pool are a short walk across the bridge & up the road - very peaceful & relaxing.

Thank you very much for a question.
Our swimming opens daily from 09:00 - 21:00 with the price for 10 US$ but if you use any massage you can use the pool for free.
Best regards,

Yes, our pool opens daily from 09:00 - 21:00. price 10 US$ per person but if you use any massage you can use the pool for free.
Best regards,
Mekong Riverview Hotel
Yes, ashtrays are available on the balcony, we had a great time there.
Hi Brian, sorry for slight delay in replying to this.
Our Spa area is currently in the final stages of being completed, our pool is finished, along with our kids pool, jacuzzi and massage rooms. In the future we will also open up a bistro, gym area an badminton. If you check out our TripAdvisor or Website you can see more information, we are called 'Palm Tree Health Spa'. Currently, our facilities are open to Hotel Guests, however they are incomplete and therefore we are offering pre-opening discounted prices.
The pool is not at the hotel, as you correctly pointed out UNESCO heritage does not allow riverfront hotels to have a pool. Our pool is located near the hotel and we offer different options of transport, either by boat and our golf cart (7 mins), minivan (10- 15mins) or by simply walking across the bamboo bridge (8-10 mins). Transport is free for all hotel guests and for outside guests who purchase a massage.
The area where our pool is located, truly is a unique and a peaceful sanctuary. We hope to welcome you soon and if you have any further questions, please message us here, Facebook or you can find out email address on our website!
Kind regards
Dear Praveena P,
We are currently in the process of building our Palm Tree Health Spa, this will inlude a 7 by 15m swimming pool, gym area, bistro and massage rooms. We hope that the pool will be ready for use by next week, however the gym will be early 2019. You can keep up to date with our progress via our website and via our social media on facebook and instagram. If you have any further questions please get in touch with us and we are happy to help.
Thank you
