Explore an off beaten track area. Kham's home town between gorgeous mountain, Nam Ou river and giant rice fields. You will discover an entire world who maintain an old traditional lifestyle while staying with our family. Kham's hometown - 65km - 2 days / 1 night or 3 days / 2 nights By bringing you with us to Kham's home village, we will intend to make you feel like home while sharing short local lifestyle moments: Preparing a meal, getting ready for a fishing day, participate in a baci ceremony, harvesting rice, daily village shower in the river, local market, wedding party, etc. Obviously depending on the weather, the season and the daily life you might not see all of the above but certainly unforgettable moment. Kham, her father Thongphat, her mother, Bounthan, our village hosts, Kham's cousin, Nala and Nakeuy will welcome you in their modest village and will share with you all these daily instants... In Muang Soune village, you have the choice of sleeping in a traditional 100 years old Lao Leu private house or to sleep at our cousin's house. We have been running the homestay since 2014 and all our guests have enjoyed their stay at Nala's and Nakeuy's house. The traditional wooden house is new and running since December 2019.

Our family of 5 had an incredible 3-day/2-night stay with Kham at her guesthouse. It was the highlight of our trip to Laos and we loved spending time on the property and in the villages. The food was fresh and authentic and our kids embraced all of it. Highly recommend for an authentic experience of Laos village life.

When I ask my girls (ages 4 and 10) what was their favorite part of our 3-week trip to Laos and Vietnam… they talk about their time in Muang Soune! Here we embraced Lao village life, shopped at local markets, gave alms to the monks, visited a school, walked through rice paddies, went fishing and much much more with our lovely host Kham. My girls can be picky eaters but they tried anything Kham offered them, including spiders. They absolutely loved picking passion fruits from the trees in the yard, chasing chickens in the village and sitting by the fire at night to keep warm and play cards. Our stay was safe and comfortable and we felt a very strong sense of community throughout. I was sad to learn the village was directly affected by the war, yet today its tranquility prevails. Thank you Kham for sharing such an authentic experience in your childhood village with us. We shall return.

A truly authentic experience and one we will never forget. A great balance between experiencing the daily tasks of the village and learning about traditional Laos ways of life and food, while enjoying the peaceful and relaxing beauty of the village and the comfort of family life. Highly recommend this experience. Kham will treat you like family and take care of you every step of the way and curate the experience depending on your interests. We left feeling more connected to Laos and more knowledgeable about the real experiences of the people today.

We stayed with Kham and Henri for 9 nights during an extended trip through Laos with our two children (aged 5 and 7). We love the house so much that we have spent several afternoons here rather than walking around town or going to cafes. We arrived by slow boat from Pak Beng and Kham arranged with our guide on the boat to have the boat van deliver us here and she was here to meet us. She spent about 30 minutes showing us around the house and orienting us to the town with maps she provided. She even provides a cell phone so that you can get in touch with her easily! One day we accidentally changed the combination on the door lock and Kham came at 8:30 at night to fix it. She took us to the alms giving ceremony one morning and prepared everything so that we could participate responsibly and thoughtfully in this traditional Laotian ceremony. Afterwards she took us through the morning market and to her favorite place for breakfast. The house is a little outside town near a sports center with a pretty good olympic pool (it's really cold though!) that is only 10,000 kip per person, and both our kids were half price. What a treat on a hot afternoon. We showed tuk tuk drivers on our phone where to go when they drove us home and Kham told us how much we should pay so that we could get a good rate. We used the kitchen for most breakfasts and a few lunches and bought food at local grocery stores and markets. Being able to cook breakfast is really helpful for us when traveling with little kids. It's a bit of a long walk for the kids to the old town (although they did it a few times), so we eventually rented bikes at 20,000 kip/day from a place in town and biked back and forth. Until then we took tuk tuks. The kids rode on racks with cushions on the back and we found helmets for everyone. Because we are traveling for an extended period of time, we have to do a bit of school work with the kids most days. The free wifi and two dining tables with chairs on the lower level was perfect for this. That level stays cool and breezy even on hot afternoons. We loved having access to a washing machine and most things we washed at night were dry the next morning. To be able to stay up after the kids went to bed, we had one kid sleep in our bed until we were ready to go to sleep and then we moved her to the bed in the living room. It's lovely and cool in the house with all the windows open and the fans on. We didn't miss the air con at all and were quite happy to have the outdoor feel of living in such a traditional space. Overall, this is one of the best AirBnB experiences we have had. Kham and Henri are fantastic hosts and have a range of other parts of their business (including local homestays in Kham's village and cooking classes), so we definitely recommend checking it out (www(dot)homestay-laos(dot)com) We are so lucky to have found such a fantastic place to stay.

We did the homestay in Muang Soune village with Kham for one night and two days. It really was a highlight of our Laos trip. We visited a local market in Luang Prabang on the way to Kham's home village of Muang Soune on the banks of the Ou River. Kham's uncle met us in his boat to take us across to the village which isn't accessible by road. We had a village tour, visited the rice paddies and the school, helped prepare one of the fantastic meals cooked by Kham and her aunt, bathed in the river, went fishing, and took alms to the temple. It was a busy two days. Kham happily answered all of our questions and helped us to gain a much better understanding of Lao history, current affairs and challenges. Kham's passion for her homeland and culture are infectious. She really goes the extra mile to make sure that her guests are well taken care of and have an authentic Lao experience.

I stayed at Kham's aunt and uncle home in her childhood village for two days/one night. It was a wonderful experience. It gave me a good perspective on the day to day life of the Lao villagers. The humble home and the tasty meals, cooked mostly from self-grown and local ingredients, are absolutely authentic! Kham is a great host, friendly and ready to convers on any subject; these two days accompanied by her gave me a good opportunity to understand the Lao culture. I highly recommend this village Homestay. For contact and info: lookup Luang Prabang Homestay and then search for homestay-laos site.

One of the most memorable experiences we've ever had. My partner and I did 3days/2nights with Kaalm in her childhood village. We learnt a lot and would recommend it to anyone who wants an authentic experience. Seeing the locals crafting baskets and dresses was a highlight, along with interacting with the school children.

Although I didn't stay at Kham and Henri's town homestay, I booked their trip to kham's village. And I'm so glad I did. Kham collected me from my hotel and we travelled in her dad's van. It's quite a long way, but I was very comfy up front and even got to catch up with my reading when not looking at the stunning scenery! On arrival we took a little ferry over to the village- and the fun began! Met the rest of the family and settled in to the house. Kham took me walking through the rice fields, and round the village to the vegetable plots. The abundance of produce was stunning and it was good to see kham purchasing fresh vegetables for later. We then walked down for river bathing. It was a welcome relief from the heat and such good fun- especially when joined by the local schoolchildren! And then what can I say about the food! The selection and quality was excellent, and repeated at every meal, with fabulous ingredients. After dinner we played card games and then off to bed. Slept on a mattress in the family room under a mosquito net, and slept like a log. Next morning, after another incredible meal, accompanied kham, her uncle and dad on a fishing trip. Stunning scenery all around but sadly no fish! Opportunity for some chill time on the river bank before lunch and then home. It was a privilege to be able to share kham's family's life for a short time and have a truly unique and genuine experience. Thanks for your hospitality xx

I not only had an amazing experience in Luang Prabong, but I also made a friend - Kham! Feeling truly welcome in her home i spent lots of time with her adorable daughters as well. We spent hours after dinner chatting about Lao culture (she has perfect English) and she went out of her way to take me shopping for traditional Lao clothes, brought me to a waterfall, a small town near by famous for their homemade paper, and of course to the Disco! The house was SO NICE, clean, beautiful and spacious. It was great to have the whole top floor (bedroom, deck and bathroom) to myself. Every morning Kham made me a beautiful breakfast. I wish could have stayed longer! The highlight of the trip was certainly the village homestay. While certainly out of my comfort zone, it was incredible to feel so immersed. What an experience - I highly recommend it. I was by myself an felt very welcomed and taken care of. The description says that you arrive to the village by boat but the entrance is blocked - so you will go by car- a very long and not totally comfortable but super beautiful ride through the Lao mountains. There certainly still is river time though- swimming during the heat of the day and an early morning fishing trip! The best part of the weekend was my walk at dusk with Kham through the rice fields. We chilled in bamboo hunts and watched the sun set over the gardens! That night was also a blast- playing cards at the neighbors house! As a teacher I loved going to the local school as well.

Kham taking us to her home village was a highlight for us and would be for anyone wanting to experience Laos traditional life first hand. Kham's Father drove us to the village, while Aunty and Uncle welcomed us with genuine Laos hospitality and we felt very privileged to stay with them. The village is not too used to tourism and you won't feel like you're witnessing a show at all, having Kham there to explain everything to us (and there were lots of questions) was invaluable, and I don't think we could have found a guide to do a better job - for Kham it was sharing a special part of her childhood, and we couldn't thank her enough for the experience we were given! Experienced local river net fishing from the long boat, rice field tour, and local village tour including a river bath and visit to the school. After returning we stayed in one of the rooms at the homestay near town, and the dinner provided was excellent, as was the breakfast, while Henri and Alice made us feel welcome there too. The room and outdoor space was large and inviting and was the perfect way for us to reflect on the village trip - thanks Kham & Henri its a great thing you've got going here and i'm glad we found you!
