My visits and stays here were in 2009 and 2010. You could stay at the fancy new hotel up the street or you could stay in real history. It is run down but clean. The staff were/are very friendly and can direct you to good shopping. You can stay in the rooms used by T.E.

Stayed here in May 2010; it was a highlight of a fantastic trip in Syria before the war started. Loved the grumpy, but eventually friendly owner. So sad to think it's now closed, and all the tragedy of Syria. Huge bath that took ages to fill. Whole place was very down-at-heel.

Not great but what history. When I stayed there many years ago Walid the manager looked after us very well. Breakfast of boiled eggs and coffee every morning. The bar was lit by one single light bulb. Settees falling apart and real feel of old times. You could imagine Lawrence

"If you don't need a lot of room, stay in Lawrence of Arabia's room, if you can afford it (it's not expensive, just more), need space or want to stay where many historic figures stayed, take the Presidential suite. It's worth it."
