Spent one night at this hotel. It is right in the town of Alton and close to nearby restaurants and shops. OK... it is a small town so do not expect high-end cuisine. The owner was friendly and accommodating. Would definitely stay here again.

One of our great pleasures in life is cruzin the scenic byways in our Mustangs or T-Bird in pursuit of curiosities with special interest in water falls, springs, grist mills, clear running streams, old buildings etc etc...
Alton, Missouri is a beautiful little town located on one of most enjoyable cruzin hiways (imho) in the USA, that being Mo hiway 19. I-70 to Thayer, Mo includes many places of interest like nearby Greer Spring, Falling Spring Mill, Eleven Point River, Mammoth Springs, Alley Springs, Big Springs and many others.. I
I could write a book on the things to do on hiway 19...
During our back road cruzin we strive to find locally owned door parking motels and mom n pop type eateries. Alton, Mo. offers both...
While the little Alton Motel was built long ago it has been completely refurbished and includes most every thing you need after a long day of cruzin the curvy hilly roads of Arkansas and S.Missouri... A good nights sleep, nicely decorated comfortable room.
We look forward to future visits to Alton and stays at the Alton Motel.

Keep in mind, the operator does not reside on the primises and requires a phone
call (417-778-6208 Jessica) for arrangements...

A bonus is Grandmas Kitchen just a couple blocks away for some goood home cooking breakfast, lunch & dinner. Yes, a family connection...

Check ALTON out, you'll be glad you did and they will be appreciative of
yer patronage. Where huntin, fishin, floatin, wood piles, stocked cellar, 4WD &
WD40 are necessities.

Cya down the road....... ... .. .O o- Carl (BC Mayor..=)~

I was a little afraid to stay here after reading one of the reviews but was pleasantly surprised that the service we received went FAR above what I'd expect from a 5 star hotel. We were expected to arrive at 9:00 p.m. but got lost on the way from St. Louis so it took longer. We'd called ahead and told the girl we wouldn't be there until 10. She was SO nice and actually made arrangements to leave the key somewhere where we could find it. She gave us directions to our "cabin", as it wasn't attached to the main part of the motel. Oh and she also turned the a/c on so the room would be cold when we arrived, which was SO appreciated since this was the first day we've had where temps reached above 100 degrees! I think the girl was either the owner or the owners daughter so she felt comfortable enough with us to allow us to pay her when we got off the river late Saturday night! We'd already stayed Friday night without paying and COULD have run (if we were that kind of people). I've never ever ever stayed at a place where they extended such warm hospitality! We kind of felt like family :-)

If luxury is what you're hoping for, you'd probably be well advised to find another place. Our cabin was comfortable and decorated as well as they COULD decorate given the layout and the age of the motel. I loved that though! We were charged $60 (where can you stay ANYWHERE in the USA for only $60?) for the use of a very old cabin (Room #9 Studio Suite). There was a dining area with a kitchen table and chairs in what appeared to be a kitchen, yet there was no running water in the kitchen. There were cabinets but no utensils or dishes. There was a working microwave and refrigerator. The TV had working satellite! No WIFI though. There was also a sofa and coffee table. The bedroom had a queen size bed that was SERIOUSLY the most comfortable bed we'd ever slept in in a hotel! Both of us woke so rested and happy with NO PAIN! That's a blessing I wasn't expecting! lol There was also a twin bed in case you bring a little one.

The only real problem we had was in the bathroom. It was clean and large, I certainly appreciated that. It came stocked with bleached towels and wash cloths. Awesome. There was enough toilet paper and lots of cheap soap bars. The shower curtain was coming down though. Also the hot water knob was coming off and needed to be replaced. Two people can not comfortably take a hot shower. There's only enough hot water for one person, but I guess this is to be expected given the age of the cabin? Another bad thing is that the toilet wouldn't flush properly. It took 5 flushes to get toilet paper to go down. Ugh. Other than the bathroom, the floors were very uneven but it really didn't bother us (keeping in mind the age of the place again).

I wish I could realistically give this place 5 stars! If my decision could be based on sentiment, I would. Just trying to be honest so that someone else can make an educated decision. All that being said, we will definitely be staying here again! Our cabin reminded me of something you'd see in movies along Old Route 66 :-) BTW... if you're wanting breakfast on a weekend, you HAVE to try Grandma's kitchen for their home cooking FABULOUS breakfasts ... and yes, just the way Grandma would make. It's in the old town square (walking distance) and the owner of the Alton Motel also owns the restaurant (the girl running our motel is the cook). Give it a try!

I hadn't been to the Alton Motel in over 30 years, and it had improved VASTLY. Although the front (NOT pictured) didn't look a bit different, it was remodeled about 5 years ago and the picture here shows the back of the motel, with a nice-enough deck. The owner has made the rooms very homey and with a very nice country theme. There was a beautiful patchwork quilt on the comfortable queen size bed, with 4 fluffy pillows. Beautiful ceiling fan. The rooms had obviously been brought "up to code," with MOST amenities larger motels have. The hot water took a long time to heat up, and there were a few items that needed fixing or attention, but because I used to live in Alton, I just thought it all was quite charming. The room's TV was fine, and I was pleasantly surprised that the Wi-Fi worked. Some rooms had a microwave. Ours didn't, but the manager said she'd be glad to get us one from one of the other 8 rooms. We used the coffeemaker, which was fine. The manager was VERY helpful and friendly; said to contact her if we needed anything, at any hour. She was off-site, but this IS a very small "Mom & Pop" type motel with only 9 rooms, so I wasn't bothered by that. All in all, it was a very pleasant trip!

My son and me went kayaking on the Eleven Point River which is near the town of Alton,Missouri and The Alton Motel. We stayed in a nearby town on Saturday & kayaked the river on Sunday. My son called the Alton Motel on Saturday night, spoke with staff and made specific reservations for Sunday night when we got off the river around 6 PM or so. We arrived around 6 to 6:30 as promised.Motel looked pretty rough with a garbage odor somewhere in the front part of the motel area. Pretty worn out place but maybe would be okay for a night as we were exhausted.Arrived and no one there so my son called the motel phone.Left a message that we were @ the motel and ready to check in. No response. Waited another few minutes...called again and no response.I called next and left a message with my frustrations in it. After about a half hour.we left...exhausted and frustrated. Finally drove to another town to get lodging.More than an hour later;we received a call back from staff on voice mail. We continued on to the next town. Horrible experience with this motel when we had reservations, showed up exhausted, and no staff there or no staff answering the phone.Zero is a high mark for this experience and I wouldn't trust they have a computer so mailing this review might be best.Highly Irresponsible Motel and Not Dependable or Trustworthy!

Response from Sheila C, Owner at Alton Motel
Responded 25 Apr 2016
In reviewing this with our manager Jessica we sincerely regret your trouble that day. Jessica remembered this incident quite well. The arrival time a possible discrepancy and Jessica was in church on Sunday night by the arrival time. A misunderstanding for sure and we will certainly take your comments into consideration. We stand firm on cleanliness and comfort and have never been told that we had any odors! We are very sad to read your negative rating and we are working hard to make this little rural motel as good an experience as possible.

I came down to Alton to say goodbye to my Grandma whom had passed away earlier this week. I called in the morning to see if I could book a room. Jessica was so sweet. I was going to arrive late in the day and she just told me to call when I arrived and she would come and check me in. She was so kind. The room had a mini frig, coffee maker, microwave cable TV and WI-FI. The bed and pillows were so wonderful. The smelled like laundry detergent and I have never slept so well at a hotel/motel. The room was clean and quaint. Stay if you can. If you are looking for something fancy go somewhere else. If you are looking for a place that feels like home stay here.

Rooms were super clean. Staff was very nice. We booked a room with 2 double beds for only $50 a night. There are only 8 rooms in this motel. Walls are not very soundproof so keep this in mind when booking. It was WAY better than camping and almost as cheap. There aren't a lot of hotels or motels in this part of the country so we were happy to find this place. It is located in a quiet area so the only "noises" you will hear are your neighbors (ours were quiet so it worked out great). You are a short distance away from the Eleven Point River which has excellent canoeing and kayaking.

Management is not on site - so just make sure to let them know what time you will be there or call ahead if your arrival time changes to make sure they are there. to let you in

We didn't know what to expect when we called and rented a room. When we got to Alton,we were tired and ready to call it a day. Jessica had our room ready and had the heat turned on. She also told us about Grandma Kitchen. We at supper there and it was delicious and I've never seen as much food on a plate. Came back to the room and had a good nite rest. Jessica makes you feel welcome . The room was cleaner than some expensive motels that we've stayed in. If we're ever in Alton,we'll stay again.

I stayed at the motel for a week and couldn't have felt more at home. Jessica was awesome to deal with before, during and after my stay. The room was clean and comfortable - prepare for a perfect night of rest. I had use of the kitchen...for which I was very thankful! I have reason to return to Alton several times in the coming year and plan to stay here every time! The only item missing is a closet. I will bring an over the door rack next time.
