Value
The Arcadia Academy has been towering over the Acadia Valley for over 150 years. The original Academy was built in 1846 as a Methodist High School by Jerome C. Berryman. During the civil war it served as a Union hospital from 1861-1863. In 1877 the Ursuline nuns purchased the campus and turned it into a girls school. The Ursuline Academy operated as a school until the last graduating class of 1971. Now under private ownership, the Academy has become a wedding venue, restaurant, and Historically Registered Landmark. St. Joseph's Chapel resides on campus and has some of the most beautiful stained glass windows in the world, each window a unique work of art. The Gymnasium has a unique roof truss system designed in Germany and seats up to 250 people for parties, receptions, or group events. Tours are available upon request, completely free and donation based. We currently operate two on-site BNBs, one inside our Priest House with 5 rooms, and one inside our Laundry House, with 4 rooms.

My wife & I happened upon Arcadia Valley by accident on a weekend getaway. We had visited some other small towns in the area and as evening approached, we were quite a distance from the nearest town with hotels. We passed Arcadia Valley and it caught our eye. It was nearly 8:30 on a Thursday evening and they easily could have turned us away on such short notice but the owner was so kind to show us the available rooms and provide us a place to stay. The entire Bed & Breakfast area including our room was beautiful. Breakfast was TOP NOTCH. We intended to come back for lunch but we were so full from breakfast that we didn't eat again until dinner. We visited a lot of places on our trip but Arcadia Academy is the place we have talked about & recommended the most. The food, atmosphere, and work being put into this place is incredible. We will definitely be back!

Stayed for three nights and four days. Absolutely love this place. I sponsor a group of ladies scrapbooking for long weekends at the Academy a couple of times a year. Their accommodations vary depending upon your taste. I love the old buildings and the history behind the Academy and surrounding property. You can stay in a European Style hostile environment, family style rooms/suites, Bed and Breakfasts, etc. Each time we come the owners have built on their projects making you feel like you are part of the experience.

The family that owns the Academy work tirelessly. They always have a smile on their faces and welcome you with arms. The ice cream is wonderful, practically everything made there in the restaurant is made from scratch.

I would absolutely love to have seen the building in its hay day.

The setting is unique, the staff exceed expectations - bonus great restaurant and amazing breakfast on site is a bonus. The historical significance of the setting adds to the charm. The buildings have been lovingly restored, the close proximity to Johnson Shut-Ins and Elephant Rocks is very convenient.

We stayed here for three nights while in the area to do some hiking and kayaking with our college age kids before they went back to school. The interior of the unit we stayed in (#4) was nicely remodeled for the most part. The laminate floor in the bedroom is in need of some repair, and there were some basic things that seem to be missing. The bathroom should have more hooks to hang towels and or clothing on, and exhaust fan would be nice to clear out all of the steam from the shower. Showered head also was very loose and difficult for someone taller to use. Also no soap was provided, so we just used The shampoo. Only three bath towels and one beach towel for the pool. Hand towels and wash cloths were plenty. In the kitchen there are no kitchen towels, only paper towel that I could find. Only one wine glass in the cupboard. Small one cup at a time Keurig coffee maker. Sheets would not stay on the bed which was very annoying, and noticed there was no mattress pad underneath the sheets. Sheets would not stay on the bed which was very annoying, and noticed there was no mattress pad underneath the sheets. Loved the character Of the home, the pool was very nice and they are working on adding other exterior features by the pool. Maybe a hot tub? Not quite sure. The exterior of the houses could use some work, mostly the roofs Look like they need replacing. Overall very nice place to stay, in the Arcadia Valley. We ate one time at the Abbey restaurant, definitely not impressed with the food. Some small improvements, even on supplies provided, would go along way! The FDC restaurant and Iron Mule much better!

When we got there we were told that our room had a toilet that was running slow, so we were offered a complimentary upgrade to one of the best rooms available. It was beautiful!
The breakfasts were wonderful, and the staff was very helpful and friendly.
The buildings are very old and not in perfect shape, but they have a rustic charm and for the cost it is a great value.
The grounds are immaculate and we enjoyed many walks on them and around the streets there.

This was our second time staying at Arcadia Academy. Such a wonderful rich historical property. Absolutely beautiful part of missouri. Shutins are close and elephant Rock is within minutes. The pool area is beautiful and convenient just right off the back porch. The kitchen had all the necessity items like coffee ziploc bags.. air conditioning was super cold and lovely. Definitely will not be our last. This family does a wonderful job with keeping the history yet modern updates for esthetic and ease of use! Thank you for the memories!

We stayed here two nights in the Arcadia room. The room was small, but a lot of character. It was across the hall from the common room, that has a full kitchen and a lot of room to sit. The claw foot tub was great, with a lot of hot water and pressure. It is in a renovated laundry building, and on second floor (no elevator). The one odd thing, you cannot lock your door when you leave, but the house does lock. We were there on some hot days and the ac was working, but needed to put on the ceiling fan to stay cool. Walls are pretty thin, and can hear cars from the road.

Breakfast was served at the restaurant at 9. Got the same thing both days but it was really good. Eggs bacon French toast, all really good.

The place is still a work in progress, they have a long way to go, it is a huge project, but we would stay here again.

Arcadia Academy is one of those places that provides respite and joy for those of us who love truly good people and authentic historic architecture. The homemade burger and fries in Thee Abbey were the best. I stayed in the Laundry Building and woke to a glorious mountain view. The adjacent loft-like Community Room allowed for me to keep food in the fridge and make my coffee just how I like it before breakfast. Breakfast across the lawn at Thee Abbey was delicious homemade gourmet French toast with eggs and bacon. The tour of the Academy was enlightening and fun, ending at the grotto and opportunity to sit in the tree swing and just soak up the atmosphere. The historic buildings and beautiful church are worth taking time to visit, as they are lovingly preserved with a light touch by the family that owns and operates the place. I can’t recommend Arcadia Academy for people with highly demanding tastes or expectations, but for those folks who appreciate the beauty of age and patina, this place is a rare gem that I couldn’t recommend more highly. I absolutely Loved it!

We stayed in one of the cottages & couldn't ask for a cleaner more comfortable place to stay. We were really disappointed that the restaurant was closed but Katherine made it possible for us to be able to get her famous cinnamon rolls to enjoy.
Thanks so much.

This was my 2nd stay at Arcadia Academy and this one was just as great as our 1st when we stayed in one of the B&Bs. Six friends enjoyed the coziness and comforts of one of the bungalows during our 3-nite stay. It's wonderful seeing the final results from all the efforts the owners have put into updating and making these historic properties available for all to see and use. The full kitchen in the rental was great, but we did make it a point to eat out one nite, onsite at The Abbey Kitchen. Great food served in an unique setting. Make sure to add this to your list!
