I stayed here for about a month while looking for an apartment here in Wuhan, the hostel is livable, but has a fair share of negative points as well. The best thing going for this hostel is their staff, which is mainly made up of young recent graduates. The location isn't bad either, being about 5 minutes from the metro. On the down side the hostel isnt all that clean, though not unbearable. Their is some communication problems, for example, they overbooked the rooms several times but were quick to right their error. But I would have to say worst of all is when they open the coffee shop in the morning whIch is attached to the hostel they like to turn the volume of their speakers all the way up waking their guests. All in all I had a good time here and made some good memories. The problems they have can be easily fixed.

This hostel is one of the worse ones in China. Staff speak english and are friendly at the front desk, but extremely impolite in the common area/bar/restaurant. We had a double room with shared bathroom. First, the "bathroom" was at the other end of this highly confusing building, and felt more like a shed than a bathroom. In addition, it was super dirty and as half-outside extremely cold in early november. The room seemed to not have been properly cleaned in a very long time as well, the window could not be closed properly, and the remote control for the AC was missing. The Restaurant serves extremely expensive and not very enjoyable food, but, to say something positive, the decorations are cool. From this we gathered that it probably used to be a good hostel, but it is really badly kept. I would not recommend it!

Reading the reviews here and the feedback I had from Chinese people, it looks like it used to be a very good hostel. I don't know about the past, but the present is a really different thing. The hostel wasn't particularly clean, rooms were very unattractive. Common area was not a meeting place, but a working place for students living there, everyone alone at his own table, no one talking or interesting in talking. Staff wasn't really helpful or friendly either. Overall, it wasn't bad as many reviews seems to say, but it was just very average, on everything. For about every hostel I've stayed in I can tell "yes, something was nice there", here I can't even find one.

china has many brilliant YHAs - that one isn`t one of them. worst place we stayed in china. our room was very humid and there was a bad smell. bathroom wasn`t clean. unfriendly and unhelpful staff (was not able to make a reservation for a bus ticket, sent us to the bus station instead). best thing was the big living / bar area, bright and cosy.

My experience at pathfinder was really just a bad time. First of all I would like to say that the staff were friendly and spoke pretty good English. Unluckily this is where the pros finish. I only spent one night at pathfinder but that was too long. The building was old, dirty and cold. Various locations around the building smelt like, for lack of a better word, poo. My room was large but again very cold and dirty. There were pieces of broken and old furniture in the room. Old desks and lamps etc. There was also a jar which looked like it contained preserved apricots, maybe this is some Chinese custom I don't understand but it was weird. The bar was actually quite nice but it was even colder than my room and smelled even worse like a toilet. Thinking back on it I'm surprised I ate there but in fact the food was OK. Actually I can remember why... It's because I couldn't find anywhere near by to eat. This may have been unlucky and I did only stay one night but it didn't seam to be a very nice area. In fact the best thing about this hostel is that it is within walking distance of the train station. So leaving Wuhan isn't too hard.

We stayed in a double room with a private bathroom during our stay. The room was large, cold and dirty. The room also seemed to be being used for storage of broken lamps and unwanted furniture. The walls were dirty and stained, and our bed was large and very hard. The bathroom was awful, a shower that couldn't supply proper hot water at night and was located directly over a squat style long drop. This meant when showering we had to be careful where we stepped, and extra careful not to drop the soap. The bar downstairs was okay. While we were there , there was a free live gig on and a Chinese movie played on a big projector screen with English subtitles. The food was okay, I enjoyed the fried rice several times. However, do not make the mistake of ordering the cheese and milk on toast as my friend did! The bar got very, very cold at night. However the major drawback of the bar was the overwhelming stench of feacal matter that inhabited certain parts if the bar in the morning. This was probably due to the gross bathroom located adjacent to the bar. Was extremely off putting. Finally, the location of pathfinders was not good. It is located on a major road, from which it is impossible to flag down a taxi. We ended up having to walk for half an hour to the train station with all if our luggage. We also could not find anywhere good to eat near the hostel, when we asked the people on reception they were unable to suggest anywhere nearby either.

Go if your young. Otherwise standards are pretty low, cleanliness, shower is right above the toilet in double rooms, frantic activities of hippies, walls covered in infantile graffiti and drawings, bar covered in hippie cloths. Expensive bar too. One tea, 25kwai? thats dinner for two on the street with baozi.

I stayed here with a friend whist the school I was working at in Guangzhou was on Christmas holidays. We were at the hostel for 3 nights and I must say it is one of the better hostels I have stayed in. There is a really nice and relaxed atmosphere there which I think is helped by the staff encouraging visitors to leave their stamp on the hotel in the form of art work in pretty much every room you go in to. There is a large seating area with comfy sofas and seating for lounging, going on your laptop, or ordering food. Or there is a smaller area next to the reception to order hot drinks form when if you are only having a quick one. The room I stayed in was a 8 bed dorm. There was plenty of lockable cupboards should you want one, and the WIFI connection seemed to work fine throughout the hostel when I was there. The only thing I would probably change if I should ever return would be to get a room which had its own toilet. As we were there in December the place was really cold and during the middle of the night I have to go down 2 flights of stairs and out into a an outside courtyard where the toilets and showering facilities were. These were FREEZING and not lit the best. The showers in the morning were also just as cold, so maybe being in the comfort of your room, as so not to brave the elements would make this experience a little easier. It is not exactly the most cleanest of hostels, but Wuhan is an industrial town, so therefore not entirely clean itself. I left with a bad chest and throat jsut from the couple of days we were there. Wuhan is massive, even in Chinese terms. The city has actually been made up of 2 other cities, so therefore you will find things to do, it is just a case of actually getting there and back easily. However I found the taxi drivers to be really friendly and helpful (there was no metro at the time I visited, however I know that there was talk of one being constructed.)

We really enjoyed our stay at this hostel. We were only here for about 2 nights in June 2012, but we really enjoyed it. We chose a room with double bed and private bathroom. Our room was "fairly clean" ... not the cleanest hostel we stayed at during our travels around China, but it was pretty good. The beds were pretty comfortable for a hostel too which was nice. The grounds of this place are quite quaint. The hostel is set back from the road, and it has it's own courtyard with greenery, and nice places to hang out. We also enjoyed a drink down in the hostel lounge & cafe every now and then. Overall we would definitely return to this hostel if we return to Wuhan.

On Annual Leave, I decided to go to Wuhan for siteseeing and experienece the different culture in mid of China. Found the hostel on www.hostelworld.com and it was recommended by the previous customer. I booked their private double room, the Wifi works pretty good in my room and in the common area. The only weakness is the hot water in the morning turns warm when temprature is only -3 outside. Receptionist is very kind and helpful. Me and my girlfriend joined the Drum party on 22 Dec. 12 which was the end day of Maya Calendar. We enjoyed the moment organized by the Pathfinder.
