Although I had a key to the door there as a huge hold where the original bolt lock was....anyone could have stuck something inside of that hole and turned the handle or unlocked the bolt above the hole. The Air Conditioner worked but was across to the back of the room, outside of the bathroom so it took a long time to cool the room down and the slats were broken on the A/C and was very dusty inside. No safety handle inside of the shower which I feel is important not only for older people like myself but anyone climbing inside of the shower. No extra blanket and the pillows were so uncomfortable was was the bed...like a board! No sleep due to the hardness of the so-called mattress! Odor was very musty!

the first thing I noticed was the smell when entering the lobby area.It was also unkempt, torn furniture, messy, dirty windows. It was not a welcoming place. Noone came to greet me for 10 minutes and that person was not very friendly rude, in fact. Upon inspection of several rooms we decided we would not stay. It was pretty bad. they had posted on the website some very attractive rooms and a waterfall that did not exist. The door to one room did not open with the key, I mentioned it to the manager and he seemed disinterested and said it had been like that for a long time. I would certainly not recommend this place.

Regarding the Holiday Motel, 708 US Highway 206, Newton, NJ 07821, the motel was very dirty as well as inhospitable.
We made our reservations months in advance directly with the motel for a room with 2 beds.
When we arrived the office was so dirty and smelly. We went to our room to only find one bed and it also smelled horrible and was so dirty it was intolerable.
When we went to the office to talk to the owners, they would not move us to a double room unless it was smoking. We went to look at this room and it was in worse condition than the first room.
We got lucky to find another motel with a room available but the owners of the Holiday Motel required us to pay for this filthy room. Do not stay at this motel if traveling in this area.

Needed a local hotel just for one night to sleep. The room was dirty and run down. The plumbing made noise when you tried to take a shower and the pillow had a stain on it. Sorry but I would not return.

This is a basic motel in a great location. Although it isn't much more than a place to sleep, the thing that separates it from others is the wonderful family that runs this place. They are most caring and accommodating. In addition, the rates are very reasonable. This is especially true considering the absence of any competitors in the area. I am currently writing from my room at the Holiday Motel and do recommend it based on my experience.

Later in the evening and area hotels booked so I tried this place. Wish I hadn't. Manager asked if I wanted no smoking room, which I said yes. While walking me there he noted that "people may have smoked there in the past". Opened the room door and the place stunk like people had smoked there forever. Rug was filthy (didn't take off my shoes), bathroom was half tiled. Whole place showed dirt and needed painting. Furniture looked like it was picked up from the curb on garbage pick up day. Some of the other "guests" appeared to be the type the state picks up the tab for as housing. Would not stay here again. Would never bring my kids here.

So....I guess when you book trips via travelocity or priceline's "express" booking for lower rated hotels, you get what you get and you don't get upset. But I didn't get upset. I got sick! This motel appears clean from the outside. The office is clean and there is a free coffee, free breakfast, and allegedly - free wifi and cable (good luck with that. The TV got one channel and it was a 24 hour ad for a deep fryer). The staff was responsive, but ultimately, didn't really care. And, I got fleas. And my allergies kicked up such that I couldn't stop itching and slept in the car. So, folks, here's how it is with travel today. Anything under about $125/night is a dump. I'd go so far as to say this was closer to a "flop house" than a motel/travelodge. It got two stars for the clean bathroom and the breakfast and coffee. But the rooms are FILTHY. God knows how long it's been since those carpets were cleaned.

The owners are so cheap - I was essentially sleeping on a broken mattress. I was truly concerned about bedbugs. So, rather than replace the old, slanted, broken mattresses the owner just puts the plastic zip sheets around the box spring and mattress which are to discourage the transfer and appearance of bed bugs. I did not see any bed bugs. Most my itching at night was the 1960s air conditioner in the window spewing horrible gross air and the utter filth in the room. So, for $79 after tax and fees, this is what you get. I am old enough to remember a better day in travel where you could book a nice, clean Motel 6 or Super 8, or even a nice, family-owned travelodge where you had nice clean sheets and a good breakfast offered. We are musicians and travel a bit so I'm used to this and I can say, at least, it was a SAFE and SECURE place for our musical instruments and equipment. The car was the better choice for me, for sleeping, though.

financial constraints caused me to choose this motel. Several years after the last review I noticed there have been recent renovations both exterior and interior that should alleviate any fears caused by earlier reviews. The place is definitely worth the price advantage but I must advise you there is NO pool. The trip advisor advertises one but the manager Mr T. claims he never gave this info to the website.

We had relatives stay and they left after one hour. The room was disgusting: Smelly, dirty, you name it. I don't think they clean after each guest. I can't see why anyone would chose to stay here. Not acceptable and nothing redeeming.
