Spent 1 night here during a China roadshow in January 2020. Lovely hotel with a great room. Staff are very helpful, but unfortunately let down by their WiFi service. Had issues connecting and spent 30 minutes with the reception staff trying to get the WiFi on my phone working. They were extremely helpful and eventually worked out the issue. But because of this issue I missed a business call.

InterContinental Jinan City Center is the only choice when we need to book a room in Jinan. It has wonderful service and a very good location, few steps to 2 modern shopping malls, and near Quancheng Road and KuanHouLi. Free underground parking with hundreds of lots. Thanks Helen Du, she always arrange nice view rooms or suites for our trip. Thanks all staff with kindly care for our trip.

Jinan Luneng Guihe InterContinental Hotel has a beautiful environment and convenient transportation nearby. The night view of the executive lounge on the 11th floor is very good. Xiao Chen's service is thoughtful and the dishes are rich. There are not only fruits, but also desserts. The room view is also good. The hotel is located in the city center. Liquancheng Square and Daming Lake are very close. Even walking is very convenient. The hotel service staff is very good, especially the lounge. The afternoon tea is also satisfactory. It is much better than some new hotels.

Fabulous rooms. Beautiful hotel interior. Helpful staff. Great location with shopping plazas all in the vicinity.

But did have two gripes.

First, issue of giving Executive Lounge access to Platinum members. I was aware that some CP properties allow this while some others don't. Having read response in November 2014,in which GM of this hotel had replied in response to another Platinum member's complaint " In regards to the Club Lounge access, I apologize on behalf of the team, as that might have been communicated wrongly. It is a given that you as our valued Platinum member has access to the CP club lounge and its services.". When the lady at reception was informed of this, she just shrugged her shoulders and said no access to the lounge.

Secondly, the breakfast is simply lousy. Egg Corner manned by an untrained lady who, in my books, carries the honour of the slowest egg maker of all of China. But I must here appreciate the manager of this restaurant who personally knocked at my room to return Amex card I had left behind on my breakfast table.

All said, it is a luxury hotel with great staff.

I would stay here if I return to Jinan again.

This hotel was 100% renovated, and should have been functioning 100% as well, but there why so much problems?

During this trip to China, I stayed at 5 IHG-group hotels, and realized that there is something wrong with their China management. The built new fancy hotels all over China, and lack the expertise to keep them. I am a platinum-ambassador with IHG so I always got the better rooms and better service, and still, I didn’t find a single IHG hotel to be what it should be.

As a platinum, member I was upgraded to a bigger room getting room 1140, which was a beautiful well designed room.
But then I realized that the phones didn’t work. I went down to the reception, and they sent a staff of 3-4 technicians that worked for about an hour and couldn’t fix it. So they then changed me to room 1136. In 1136 the light in the wardrobe didn’t work, and it took them 20 minutes to change the bulb! And my question is, can’t their staff check the rooms before giving it over to guests? In total they burnt me 2 hours of my precious time.

Every room has its own WiFi router, and the router ID is the room number, while the router password is a different 4-digit code. I was sure that this is enhanced internet security (what should and avoid “St. Regis Bangkok” style hacking). However, this is simply a bad joke! They don’t change the password every time guest changes and the security codes are written on the WiFi router which is located behind the TV (see attached picture).

WiFi is free (at least for members), but most of the time bandwidth was horrible, even worse than a 2G phone, needless to mention a 3G phone.

Executive lounge is a joke as well. Mostly an empty room, opening only 10:00 AM (no breakfast) and nothing really what to do there, not even tea during the day.

English of their staff is terrible, however most of them tried their best, mainly Mr. James and Ms. Gigi Zhao, but most of the time they were helpless.

========================
The IHG 50% discount hoax!
Supposedly they were participating in the “Book on Fridays for 50% off”, and appeared on the IHG 50% off list of Friday 26/12/2014. But when I tried to book that rate, it didn’t appear. I also called the infamous IHG service desk (located in the Philippines) but they couldn’t help. I later emailed the hotel directly, and they replied “IHG Hotel Group really has this promotion for 50% discount on Friday only, but our hotel don't participate in this promotion. Please forgive me I can only help you to book a reservation for that price”.
Well, I don’t blame them, as this is the hoax of IHG management. The Shijiazhuang Intercontinental was also supposed to participate in the same Friday sale, and there as well no one knew about that.

As the other reviewers have mentioned, this hotel is conveniently located in Jinan and is surrounded with shopping malls and parks. The reception is not on the ground floor, however, that does not make too much trouble since lifts could easily take you to the reception floor and also staff could also show you the way. When I lived there, the gym was under re-construction and the hotel allocated an area for basic exercise, hopefully the new gym would be much better. The hotel looks very new and staff are very friendly, a great experience.

This is a brand new (or maybe rebuilt) hotel. My executive 11th floor room was well sized, with an excellent modern interior design. Separate toilet room, and separate bathtub and shower cubicle.

Internet was free and bandwidth was good (not common for China).

Water flow in the shower was not too good, but this was probably done intentionally to save water, since pressure in the bathtub and sink is ok.

English of the staff is terrible.

The hotel is confusing from outside without any normal big sign of the hotel, rather the sign of a local shopping center. Even when coming near the door the view of the large sign is disturbed and you can only see a small sign (see picture). My driver was near the hotel going around for 25 minutes until he found the entrance.
Inside it is confusing as well, 3 types of elevators, floor 7 all floors and roof garden and so on. On the 11th floor there are signs to executive lounge, but it takes you to nowhere. Rather you have to take the elevator to 7th floor and change to another elevator to the 11th floor
Checkout was slow, and it is almost impossible to get taxi there. After waiting for 20 minute I had to take the (expensive) hotel car, and at the end I missed my train.

However, once you’re in the room, it is a paradise, so I gave it an excellent.
