We decided to spend our last night here on our own after the end of our Shandong tour. We wanted to stay near the May 4th Square and this was our choice. Wise decision on our part. We have stayed in many IHG hotels which we enjoyed and this was no exception. We were lucky that our room had a partial view of the oceanfront which made it even more special. Breakfast was on our own which turned out to be good. The walk from the hotel to the Haisense Mall and the May 4th Square was manageable even for us. Everything was sparkling clean and well-appointed. Would love to go back someday.

The hotel is well located near the Sailing Center, that was the reason for me to book it. The room I got smelled like cigarettes and was very hot 24’C. I requested another room explaining that I booked a non-smoking room and I need a room where AC is working properly and the temperature can go below 20’C. It took them more than an hour to confirm that they didn’t have that. I left.

Lovely hotel, smothering staff yet they don’t achieve making you welcome. Typical chinese hotel, the room was a sauna with no way to cool it. We were provided a fan, which, in the middle of the night, started to sound like a jet was landing. The next day we realised that it had a water facility that had dried up and there was no way to fill it. Major disappointment was the fact that every meal we had in the hotel was cold. When we requested the food be served hot, The waitress laughed. I suggested that we were paying for the food so we expected it to be edible. She said that she would pass the message on. But it came cold again. Much apologies, and then she didn’t charge for the meal, but then again, the next day everything was stone cold. It is as if it trades on its reputation, not on the actual service or pleasure of your stay.

In time of Covid-19 you would expect a better attention on cleanliness. Moldy shower, stained carpet, sofa and bed head, obsolete furniture. Even in the elevator there was a tag about cleaning every hour, but the big hand sanitizer was empty, that shows the ridiculous and fake promise of cleaning every hour.
The most disappointing part was the night I tried to drink a cocktail at the bar at rooftop. Me and my girlfriend were rudely approached by the two ladies at the hostess desk, they were removed from their lazyness on mobile and had to attend us, so the tone was very offset. We being asked if we purchased a voucher, and we were surprised to hear, as nobody in the hotel told us about it. Once agreed on buy it, we understood that only limited cocktails and drinks were to be consumed with it, I asked if could change for a negroni, but got declined. So, I went to the bar for a classic cocktail, but couldn't get it and have been treated as an outside bugger!!! I went to complain to duty manager and he laughed on my face, shrugging shoulders and saying it was not hotel fault as the bar is managed by third party company, I told I was a guest and he still laughed at me, ASHAMING.

Club Access makes no sense here. "Cocktails with premium wines..." , well in reality no cocktails with a couple of primitive wines. Certain items are stocked out and there aren't even proper wine glasses. Very poor value. On a positive note, the sea view is nice but you can have it from your room. Then why will you pay for the club lounge?

This hotel has a great location, a great view of Qingdao CBD area and marina view. If you stay in a sea view room in Tower C, you can enjoy all of the beautiful sights in your room. But, another thing such as breakfast. It was awful! It was very, very hard for me to find something that I can eat during breakfast time. Nothing in the restaurant was hot, even the omelette that I ordered from the chef. It took me around 20 minutes to get my omelette! And finally, a nice gentleman from the coffee station helped me to find my omelette from the live cooking station. Without help from that nice gentleman, I have no idea if I could eat my omelette at that time or not. No surprised the omelette was already cold. And, by the way, they are not serving yoghurt anymore. OMG, THAT IS AN INTERCONTINENTAL. Even Holiday Inn Express has the yoghurt during breakfast! And the breakfast in Holiday Inn Express is free for every customer! It is time to do some change in the kitchen, and also the person who in charge of the Food&Beverage department, this person should be fired right away. This person has no idea how to manage an all-day dining restaurant. And this person has no idea how breakfast should be like in an InterContinental hotel.

The hotel locates at a great place, on the sea shore in Qingdao downtown. The decoration of rooms are old and out of date, also the size of room is limited.
Some rooms' view is good, which facing the sea, but generally just normal sea view.
The service part is somewhat disappointing. when check in, the reception printed my Spire Ambassador benefits on a paper, which is nice, but I was told there is an identical copy on my room's desk and the reception refuse to give me her copy. But there is not actually in the room. Thus when I walked to Executive Lounge, I was told that I'm not granted access. And I have check the benefit policy and it is stated the Spire member will not be granted Executive Lounge access in Intercontinental hotels, which is also somewhat different in other Intercontinental hotels that I lived, but it fits the public policy. It is OK that the hotel controls how to benefit the members, but if a clear list is already printed and shown to me when check in, I don't understand why I wasn't receive it in person at the beginning but after humiliated at Executive Lounge entry. So I have to place this hotel as my last choice in Qingdao, and fortunately there are many alternatives surrounding.

Staff at this hotel - and I mean all staff, from the amiable and highly professional General Manager to every other manager, the chamber maids, restaurant and club lounge staff and porters, leave no stone unturned to anticipate guest preferences and provide excellent service.
