Hotel Tamaca is probably the nicest place to stay in Santa Marta. Actually, it's not located in Santa Marta, but a neighborhood over the hill, Rodadero. It's a 10,000-12,000 mil taxi ride to town and takes about 15 minutes.
Overall, it's a great value for...More

Overall, my wife and I felt very safe in Colombia, although I did have my wallet stolen on the bus in Bogota. Apparently this is a common problem even for locals. We also went to Cartegna and Santa Marta and had no problems whatsoever. The local people were really hospitable and went out of their way to make us feel welcome in their country. The beach in front of the Tamaca Beach Resort hotel is very nice but I do not know if it is used for snorkelling. Have fun - Richard
