We visited Taveuni mainly to go diving but a friend recommended us to stay here. It is a really beautiful place, immaculately looked after, with an amazing view. It's a short walk down to a small private beach, diving is about a 10 minute drive away (they will pick you up), food is good, we drank a lot of wine looking at the sea. Do and Rick and their extended family are fabulous hosts - we hope to be back soon now we know it is there. The diving is also spectacular.
It was the most incredible, beautiful, and serene experience. I do not even know where to begin! The owner came and picked us up from the airport. We had this suit on the water artesian water shower outside over looking the water. The suit was the most gorgeous zen place I have ever stayed. The food was by far the freshest, healthiest and delicious. They took incredible care of us from each excursion sending us with waters and lunch. Each staff member so attentive and present. I felt genuinely cared for. We loved Horseback riding , Kayaking, there is a private beach as well. Hands down the most romantic place to stay. It is priceless.
I wasn't sure we'd set out on the best first foot when the hotel speedboat picked us up from another island over choppy seas with no cover for our luggage. Eeek! But.. upon a warm welcome by both Ric and Do we couldn't help but fall in love with the place which had such a friendly family feel. Their love of animals also struck a chord with us and we very much enjoyed their many stories. It was our honeymoon and they went to such efforts to make sure we had such a special stay. The activities/ excursions are fairly priced for the personal attention you get. We took a trip to the waterfall and we were out for about 5 hrs with our lovely friendly guide who was so patient with my need to photograph everything along the way! We loved it. Our massages were also amazing. I stayed on for an extra half an hour! This isn't the sort of hotel where activities are onsite so make sure you come prepared to go out to explore and you really should. It's such a pretty little island. The accommodation is also lovely. They have thought of every little thing and the rooms are spacious and well decorated/fitted out. It's not cheap and I guess compared to some hotels, you may feel like you're getting more for your money elsewhere around Fiji but this place steals your heart a bit and therefore it's worth the money spent and Taveuni is remote so it does make things expensive for the hotels there. With regards to food - you are definitely over fed! Breakfast was probably my favourite. The warm fruit muffins were the best I've ever had. Personally I would have liked more curry/indian options for dinner but that's not to say the meals weren't enjoyable. I just like spicy food. I'm not sure it felt particularly Fiji-esque in that domain but that's probably a personal preference. The gardens are immaculate and their grass (Do called it weed)! was better than most bowling greens! I was also rather taken with the biggest hermit crab I've ever seen and the heron who wanted to share the pool with me! Loved this place! Housekeeping also very good and far better than any other hotel we stayed out during our trip to Fiji.
My wife and I stayed at Taveuni Island Resort for a week in October and it was the vacation of a lifetime. The resort is beautiful and in extremely good condition. It's hard to believe how long it has existed! We were picked up at the airport by Do, who has owned the resort for decades with her husband Ric, and from the minute we met her, we know we were in for a special vacation.
Rather than elaborate on all the great things others have written, I'll just mention a few things that stood out as exceptional:
- The views from the resort were truly spectacular. It reminded me of Montana, which is nicknamed "Big Sky Country", only this was better! - The grounds were impeccable. - The personalized friendly service was really amazing. Everyone was so nice and so happy... it was infectious! - The food was incredible. I've dined all over the world, and enjoy eating out at top rated restaurants. I'd stack up the TIR cuisine with any of them! - If you want to relax and enjoy yourself you can do that, but the island of Taveuni has so much to offer. The resort provides inexpensive yet comfortable transportation along with friendly guides who will take you to all kinds of natural wonders.
Fiji takes a long time to get to from the US, but we do hope to return someday and so we can stay again at Taveuni Island Resort!
