Life is too complicated, and I, with my review here, want to make it a lil easy by saving you all from the troubling question of where to stay when in Srinagar. The answer, once and for all, is WelcomHeritage's Gurkha houseboat, Nigeen Lake. To be in Srinagar, and not stay in a houseboat is a crime. And I, who had been to Kashmir many a times before, was this close to being declared a history-sheeter, had the wisdom of staying in one didn't dawn on me during this trip. The saving grace was that my first stay happened to be at the best houseboat in town. Picture-perfect postcard like location, mouth-watering choicest Kashmiri wazwan delicacies, or their out-of-the-world trademark Kashmiri hospitality, Gurkha ticks all the boxes and how. The place works like a charm and once there you won't feel like going anywhere else. This was the exact reason that after duly attending to the touristy wishes of my family, I called over my friends and extended my stay for two days during which we simply lounged around sipping bottomless warm cup of Kashmiri kahwa while admiring the serene beauty of Nigeen Lake. The review won't complete without mentioning their amazing amazing caretakers Zahoor, Sharif and Riyaz who would do -- and did everything -- to make the stay comfortable and memorable. The manager Isaaq is a thorough gentleman and makes you feel at home the moment you aboard the houseboat. God bless Kashmir. God bless Gurkha. And god bless each one of you who I hope would visit this beautiful place sooner than later.

We stayed for a night in boat no.1. It was like staying at home in the peaceful Nageen lake. Excellent service, very clean and food served as per our choice - veg and non veg. They pick you up and drop you back at Ghat no.1 of the lake by Shikara. You just need to call and tell them about your arrival at the ghat for check in. Vendors with their wares will disturb you every now and then if you are seen sitting outside. Cant help it. But iam sure it's a lot more peaceful than Dal lake stays.

We were welcomed with Greetings saying you are welcome at your home and it was as it was claimed. The hospitality food ambiance service all par excellence. The food needs special mention as it was as we had custom ordered prepared with utmost care and met the expectations. Mr Suhaib owns his own pashmina shawls warehouse and i must tell you the collection is superb we ended up buying some exquisite stuff for keeps. Enjoyed the short trip to the fullest.

This is one of the best house boats in Srinagar. To begin with, this is on Nigeen lake which is much more quaint than Dal which is crowded even during lean periods (first week of June 2021). Second, this houseboat has been maintained properly while retaining Kashmiri heritage (eg - interiors). There are 6 boats with them with 5 operational currently and another one (brand new) getting ready by August 2021. All boats are adjacent and one can’t differentiate the view. As far as service, we were taken good care of by Sharif bhai. I’m sure other boats would match the experience. We had the chance to meet the owner who gave us a tour of upcoming boat as well. A very genuine person deeply caring for guests’ experience. Btw, upcoming houseboat is going to be swanky. Easily the best in town (we did physically check out Sukoon on Dal as well - not worth the price tag). No matter the HB, please consider Nigeen over Dal. You would not be disappointed.
