Le Colonial was our favourite place to stay in Kerala. The resorts in the mountains were lovely, but this place was like a home. The property is very nicely landscaped and includes a lovely little swimming pool that leads to an open-air dining area. At the time of our stay, we were the only customers there, so we received personal...

Le Colonial is, I think, Asia’s oldest hotel in Fort Cochin – dates to 1506. Its adjacent to St. Francis Church and its said that Vasco da Gama and the Saint Ranscis had too stayed in that building. Its now managed by the famous Neemrana brand of India. I had the pleasure to stay there on one of my business...

A wonderful, friendly hotel which is more like visiting a home. Truely lovely staff who did everything to make our stay a joy. There is a lit of great history (a speciality of the place) in the hotel itself which us really worth investigating. The chef is great too and I recommend eating here. Overall a great place to explore...

We had an amazing 3 nights here during May. Le Colonial has so many things to recommend it. From the moment you walk through the doors into the walled courtyard you feel relaxed. You move from the colourful modern day Indian street scenes and into a sense of Portugeuse, Dutch and British influence in this part of the World. The...

We visited Cochin at the end of the tourist season and only two rooms were occupied in the beautiful and historic Le Colonial built in 1506. We were upgraded to a spacious room with two double beds and a luxurious washroom (bathroom). Ceiling fans and air conditioning kept our room comfortable in the hot and humid climate of Southern India....

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights from 1 April 2016 - a beautiful old colonial building with only 7 bedrooms - all very good. We booked the best, and most expensive of the lot - the Viceroy. It looked great - big and comfortable. The weather was hot and very humid. We quickly discovered that the air conditioning...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Le Colonial, by the Chinese fishing nets of Fort Cochin, is probably Asia's oldest colonial house, dating back to 1506. Located in the very heart of Fort Cochin, right next to Saint Francis Church, it is said to have housed the Saint and Vasco de Gama. After 150 years as the Portuguese Governor's residence, it was one of the very few houses not to have been destroyed when the Dutch took Fort Cochin. It then housed the Dutch Governors for a century and a half until Jan van Spall sold it to the British in 1795. In turn, they passed it on the J. Thomas, the legendary tea trader. These five captive centuries of history have been lovingly restored and the hotel is a true living museum. Treasures of art from the colonial past have revived that era, turning Le Colonial into a "Club" for the discerning travelers. ... more   less
