I can't knock the staff - they were polite and helpful. You are paying basic prices so to expect too much would be crazy. But 500 rupees for a single room should buy you at least a semi clean room. Instead (was this the last room as I had arrived later than planned?) even in the dark I could see...

Stayed in a basic room with a fan surrounding the garden for Rs 500 per night. The room had all the basic amenities, but with no frills. The location can't be beat, as you are right across from the East Gate of the Taj Mahal. Despite this proximity, the hotel is quiet at night. We didn't try the restaurant, so...

We stayed here at the end of a two week trip in India. The price is more than one would like to pay for the quality (quite spartan) of their rooms but this is still a very good option if you are tired from your travels in India. The interior garden area is very, very nice and makes for a...

We used this hotel to rest in during the day. We booked a room, left our bags there, had lunch, then set out for the Taj which is right nearby. (Get tickets at another gate though. Can't buy them at this gate.) The room was very clean and simple - we got the top of the range at $18 Aus!...

We booked this hotel by internet. We had no problem with check in late in the evening. Our rooms weren't perfect, without hot water (it is given when you ask for it) but what we can get for 600 Rp per night just 5 min walk from Taj Mahal. The reason we chose this hotel was low price and realy...

The area and the 'hotel' itself is peaceful and calm. We stayed in a fairly decent sized room with aircon and an ensuite, it seemed clean but the aircon was an externally fitted device which was so loud we had to turn it off at night. Because of this, we left it on while we went out to cool the...

the bonus is definitely the peaceful setting off the main street and the courtyard garden which is really pleasant at night to have a meal, particularly in comparison to other hotels/restaurants in town (even if they do have somewhat Taj views). The garden is otherwise great for just hanging out in during the day which is rare from my experience...

I went here because it was an "Our Pick" in the Lonely Planet, expecting something great. But like with many hotels that find fame (and new business) from the LP advertisement, I felt Hotel Sheela has used it as an excuse to charge more. My room, though decent and pretty clean, was priced much higher than it should have been...

Really surpised by some of the bad reviews on this place. I thought it was perfect location, clean and quiet (such a Godsend in India!). OK it's not the Oberoi Villas, but at 600 rupees, right next to the Taj - great value! Good restaurants just around the corner on rooftops overlooking the Taj (the Sheela for some obscure reason...
