One should take extreme names with a pinch of salt - it's nothing like the palaces of Rajasthan, but then it's a damn sight cheaper, so we weren't that disappointed. The first room offered had a stellar view of a wall but there were no issues getting a better one. We ended up in a fairly decent one with a...

The Palace on Ganges has a certain aged glamour to it, however it needs to lift it's standards if it wants to keep attracting foreign visitors. The room was adequate and clean, although somewhat dark. What really let the hotel down was the rooftop terrace restaurant. The tables were dirty, and when we asked for ours to be wiped down,...

Get a prepaid taxi to this place because I think the hotel taxi was overpriced (you can probably get one for 600 rupees if you haggle well :)). The hotel is very close to one of the main ghats, the Assi Ghat. It's also near a market. There were a few other hotel restaurants around with better value (the one...

I would agree with most of what is said by other travellers. The location was fantastic as it allowed our taxi driver to drive up directly to the hotel. We had to walk about 2 mins the rest of the way as it costs them to park there. The trip cost about 800 rupees and takes about an hour on...

My first night was in a room in the basement with no natural light and quite claustrophobic. But to their credit, after I asked I was moved to room 301 up on the roof with a queen size bed and huge views of the Ganges but with no TV or fridge (no big deal). The hotel is clean, the beds...

We booked 3 nights and had at first a room wit windows overviewing a wall. After a change, not much more view as it seems there are very few rooms with windows overlooking the Ganga. I would quote it as expensive and not very clean. Food is average, they made nothing of the rooftop. Not much advice to be expected. It...

On the plus side, the fact that this hotel is at the south end of the ghat strip means that it is accessible by car. Also, the building has a nice feel inside, tastefully decorated and clean. BUT (pay attention manager and staff!) - the hotel has a LONG way to go in giving the customer a pleasant experience. Staff...

I stayed with my family at this hotel for one night. I had done the bookings through Make my trip. The hotel is highly overpriced- both in terms of the room and the food. Even water is not provided in the room, a bottle of water from the minibar costs Rs 70! Worst is yet to come- I was not...

The front of the hotel overlooks a busy car park. The view from the rooftop does give a good view of the end of the town but you can see nothing of the main river frontage of the town. The room itsself is very basic and small. there are no tea and coffee making facilities, no room safe and a...

Lovely heritage hotel with excellent staff. We had a dawn boat ride the next day so the location of the hotel was really advantageous. In the afternoon we took a nice stroll along the ghats which is something you could not do at whim if you were staying in the Cantonment area (where all the major hotels are). Hotel manager...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Palace on Ganges is a new, immaculately clean hotel with 22 rooms, each named for -- and said to be decorated in the style of -- a different region of India. Our rooms were good-sized and well appointed (cable TV sets, non-alcholic mini-bar, tables and chairs). The staff is friendly and attentive. Food is vegetarian and well prepared. The big advantage is Palce on Ganges's location. It is at Asi Ghat, And while it's "on the Ganges," a small road and a large where you can get the cab easily from just out of the hotel. Views of the Ganges from the balcony -- and rooms facing the river -- are far less good than those from, among others hotels. Disadvantages: not all rooms face the river. ... more   less
