We stayed at Palace on Ganges during our trip to Varanasi. Although its a bit pricey, the hotel is very clean, the staff well trained, efficient and courteous. The rooms are good but the Suite is excellent (we stayed in the suite). The suite offers the most breathtaking view of the Ganges and do not miss the sunrise. The food...

This hotel is fine, but not worth the money. You can get better hotels for this price. I was a little bit disappointed as I thought it would be right on the Ganges - there is a road, an unattractive car park, and then about 50m of sand before you see the river. The rooms do not have a view...

I had high hopes for this hotel being right on Assi Ghat and having enjoyed stays in various converted palaces throughout Rajasthan. Unfortunately this hotel does not scrub up. The service was poor to average. We had a room near reception which was quite noisy but reasonably comfortable and quite large. Could not say it was spotlessly clean but it...

Its location was very good, you could walk along the Ghats from the Hotel.and because it overlooks the river there are lots of opportuniites to people watch from the garden on the roof. It was facinating watching daily life and rituals being performed.Take a sunrise boat trip, it is very atmospheric. Heritage Hotel, well maintained, helpful staff, good rooms, baths...

The hotel is really very overpriced and definitely not a palace. I found the staff somewhat surly and over eager for tips. Judging by other reviews it seems there are various qualities of room and if you are in the basement I would forget it. The second floor is fine but thisplace is so expensive - withthe exchange its about...

Staying in Varanasi is an incredible experience, and being on the river, added to this, but Varanasi is an easy place to be. I think this is one of the best places to stay in town. The alternative is to stay in a big fancy western hotel outside the city. Whats the point? There is not view of the river,...

On arrival the reception wasn't aware of our booking and therefore we were grateful to have a room available. However we were placed in a basement room without a window. The basement room felt damp and there were a few bad smells and bugs in the bathroom. We requested an alternative room and after another night in the basement we...

Our room was dark, damp and smelly, simply not a place you want to stay for more than sleeping and a quick shower. It was so damp that the air-co send visible clouds into our room - not very nice. The restaurant was ok, but small and dark. They have a rooftop terrace, but for some reason it is only...

This hotel is clean, quiet and has comfortable rooms. The staff are very pleasant and helpful. It is located near Assi Ghat, which we liked as it was quiet and peaceful and there are good restaurants and cafes near by. It is a 20-30 min walk along the river to the main ghats or a short tuk-tuk ride. Overall, this...

This hotel is a total rip off. The rooms are bad, dirty and filthy. For this price, you will get a quality star hotel in the city. While checking in, they said breakfast will be served in the basement. To our astonishment, we were charged Rs. 850.00 for a mediocre spread without warning. The front office staff were out right...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Palace on Ganges is a new, immaculately clean hotel with 22 rooms, each named for -- and said to be decorated in the style of -- a different region of India. Our rooms were good-sized and well appointed (cable TV sets, non-alcholic mini-bar, tables and chairs). The staff is friendly and attentive. Food is vegetarian and well prepared. The big advantage is Palce on Ganges's location. It is at Asi Ghat, And while it's "on the Ganges," a small road and a large where you can get the cab easily from just out of the hotel. Views of the Ganges from the balcony -- and rooms facing the river -- are far less good than those from, among others hotels. Disadvantages: not all rooms face the river. ... more   less
