After nearly four decades Poppies is still being discovered by those wishing to escape the glitz and glamour of grandiose hotels while expecting comfortable clean surroundings, friendly service, and Balinese charm. Spacious individual thatched cottages filled with collectors' antiques, Indonesian fabrics and a host of creature comforts nestle in beautifully kept gardens with ponds, waterfalls, towering coconut palms, and a stunning swimming pool built among rocks and sunbathing terraces, overhung with riotous bougainvillea.

Poppies was unfortunately not for us but may suit other travellers to Bali. Free transport to the airport was very convenient. Pros: Poppies staff are wonderful, polite, and attentive. Breakfast had plenty of options and was delivered on time. The pool was on the smaller side but adequate for the size of the resort, was never bust when we wanted a swim. The lovely man at the pool deserves a shout-out as he was always helpful, making sure we were happy. We requested a half day extra as our flight was late in the evening, and Poppies where very accommodating and offered a half day rate, which was appreciated. Any issues were dealt with promptly. Poppies is quiet even though they are situated in a busy area. The gardens are beautiful and plentiful wildlife to watch in the trees. Room service from Poppies restaurant was excellent and was not expensive. Cons: Poppies is an older resort and may not suit you if you prefer a more modern decor. Our air-conditioning was not adequate for the size of the room. Initially, our air-conditioning was very ineffective, and we let the reception know. They promptly called in someone to service our air-conditioning unit, but we couldn't feel a great deal of difference. We were only there for 1.5 days, so we just put up with it, but this would unfortunately be the reason we personally would not return. If you are used to a warmer climate, you may be ok, but we are from a cooler climate, so keep this in mind. On checking out a staff member was spraying chemicals around the garden and we couldn't avoid breathing it in! It was horrible and was very disappointing, I understand these things need to be done but letting guests know so they can stay indoors or offer masks if stay indoors isn't an option, would be much better, in many other countries guests be evacuated for a few hours while this was happening 😞. Poppies are situated in a small busy lane, and walking up and down the lane becomes annoying as you are continually dodging traffic or being harassed by the store owners.

We thank you for a comprehensive and balanced review. We always like to learn of any Cons, so we can take steps to remedy things: Our apologies regarding the aircon - it is supposed to be better than adequate, and normally is, so clearly our servicing should have had a better result. You're right that pest control is part and parcel in a hotel set in tropical gardens. We cannot just leave nature to its own devices, as we would quickly become a living jungle. But we do take your point about the need to forewarn guests, in addition to trying always to choose a time that is quiet. Thank you - we will try harder. Cannot of course do much about the age (and deliberately traditional style) of our property, and unfortunately cannot do much about the traffic on the lane, or the changed spending habits of visitors post Covid, that results in shopkeepers being desperate to sell something.

A free airport pickup and a transfer through very busy Kuta streets ending in the narrow poppies lane 1 we arrived at the lovely Hotel. Nice private walkways to the individual cottages. Plenty of room for 2. Fine open air bathroom (Mandy). Bed mattress was well worn but still comfortable. The grounds are magnificent. Plenty of shrubs and trees and flowers. Superb pool. Very good restaurants nearby. This is THE place to stay in Kuta !

A quiet oasis in the centre of Kuta, honestly once you are inside you could be a million miles away from civilisation. Staff are wonderful, rooms are comfortable and quiet. Air condition works well and the amount of greenery cools the place down. Pool is relaxing and big enough for those wishing to do laps? Breakfast is nice either in your room or at Poppies restaurant. Would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to couples or families with older children

We always make Poppies our first and last hotel when staying in Bali. Prefect.for airport pickup & dropoff. Great to arrive and enjoy a cold Bintang on Kuta beach, but clsoe enough to duck out of the Kuta madness as you need. Staff are super friendly.

Thank you for making us your airport transit hotel, and for reminding others to to do the same! We would really love you to spend more than just a night or so at a time with us. Sad to relate that in days of old our average stay was 4 nights! We still offer day tours to many points of interest around Bali, using our friendly and experienced drivers.

Our stay with family was good.. it is next to shopping street. everything was close by, beach, shopping, massage etc. Only the drawback was morning breakfast. everyday same menu. also per person you can order only 5 items. Pool was excellent.

Thanks for the nice review. I'm sorry, we'd like to follow up on your breakfast comment, but we don't quite understand it. If your room rate included breakfast, then indeed you got to choose 1 item from each of 5 categories - 5 breakfast items per person seems reasonable, we feel. There are several choices within each category, so we don't understand what you mean by "every day same menu" - you could choose something different from yesterday, for weeks if you stayed long enough! If your room rate did not include breakfast, then there's a full a la carte breakfast menu with prices.

Poppies Bali was an amazing experience from start to finish.Once we were taken to this hidden oasis behind a high stone wall we were wide eyed at the beauty of this hotel of surprises and the total quietness. You are escorted to your bungalow on a winding path that crosses over a lovely pond through what can only be described as luscious gardens in every direction.Once you are in your Balinese traditional accomodation you will be nothing but pleased with what is before you.A high peaked thatched roof and furnished beautifully with the most comfy bed and to top it off an incredible totally private outdoor bathroom.Every bungalow has its own front porch and is secluded from your nearby neighbours giving the impression you are the only people there.Breakfast can be delivered to your room or you can take the option of going to their poppies restaurent which is just outside the front gate.Restaurent is also a must do for dinner with its soft lighting and amazing gardens. Menu is extensive and the food is of highest quality and friendly service from the staff who give you the feeling that you are a special guest. The swimming pool is one of the best we have seen on all our bali holidays and food and drinks can be ordered poolside and delivered to your place of relaxation to enjoy yet again surrounded by a tropical garden. Also walking distance of 5 min to beach and surrounded by all the attractions such as shopping and restaurents.10 out of 10 for this holiday experience.

A beautiful, calm and peaceful stay. I stayed for 5 nights to get over jet lag and relax before heading elsewhere in Bali. The cottages are lovely, comfy beds, blackout curtains and noise. Breakfast was outstanding and kept me full all day. The pool area is so peaceful and clean. The staff were all wonderful and even helped me contact a boat company I’d booked to help re-confirm. It really is a little oasis of peace and quiet. I did not leave the hotel as Kuta is not my vibe so Poppies was the perfect oasis to get over jet lag and relax. The restaurant is also great for dinner and very well priced.

Yes, we too are sorry about Kuta in general. But we like to think of Poppies as a holiday destination in itself. Our drivers stand by with tours around the island (once the new year traffic surge has subsided!). Thank you for choosing to stay at Poppies!

Poppies is so beautiful, serene and lovely! I would stay here always (and I hope we come back) … great staff and services! Location is perfect too. Our first time to Bali and Poppies made our Balinese experience wonderful. The rooms are very quiet and the pool area was so relaxing and beautiful. We felt very safe and well looked after.

It‘s already the second time we have been in the „Poppies“ in Kuta. If you are looking for a quiet Place in Kuta, maybe after arrival in Denpasar, to get over the Jetlag, Poppies is the right place. Each Room is a Single appartment in the Garden of the Hotel. The breakfast is served on the Terrace or in the restaurant, which is close to the Hotel. The Pool is also a big plus, as it is quite big and hidden within the Garden. The Staff is very friendly and helpfull, since we were travelling with our 4 years Old daughter.
