After nearly four decades Poppies is still being discovered by those wishing to escape the glitz and glamour of grandiose hotels while expecting comfortable clean surroundings, friendly service, and Balinese charm. Spacious individual thatched cottages filled with collectors' antiques, Indonesian fabrics and a host of creature comforts nestle in beautifully kept gardens with ponds, waterfalls, towering coconut palms, and a stunning swimming pool built among rocks and sunbathing terraces, overhung with riotous bougainvillea.

This is a true gem in Bali. The villas are absolutely beautiful and so is the gardens within the hotel vicinity. Was impressed by the fact that the villa had a pioneer player that provided great sound system thru my stay. Opted for breakfast delivered to the villa and enjoyed every single one of them for the entire duration of my stay. The breakfast portion was large hence one can skip lunch after this binging at the start of each day. Selection was also extensive. Particularly liked the egg benedict. The service team was very friendly and accomodative.

Poppies cottages are hidden behind a stone wall in Poppies Lane, but go through the wooden gate and you find yourself in a beautiful Balinese garden with winding paths leading to the thatched cottages dotted around. You might even be lucky enough to meet the owner (a garden enthusiast) doing some gardening! The cottages all have their own verandah and nothing is nicer than sitting in the morning sun and eating your room service breakfast (included in the room charge)and listening to the bird song (a plus of the garden setting). The cottages are roomy and spotless, with garden bathrooms and sunken marble bath; the smiling staff cannot do enough to make your stay a good one; and Poppies restaurant is a short walk away. What more could you need?!

Still going strong after all these years! The cottages are spacious, well furnished, perhaps a little on the dark side and set out in carefully manicured grounds. The swimming area in particular is a delight. Breakfast over the road is another hilite not to be missed. The staff are simply brilliant!

After 5 years absence,at last to return to Poppies was wonderful .The first morning back, awakening to the beauty, and tranquillity of our cottage and Poppies amazing garden made me really emotional. It was a delight to be once again sitting on the verandah of our cottage eating the delicious breakfast prepared so well by Poppies restaurant. And the staff are the same warm and friendly people I love.Relaxing in the pool ,walking through the gardens, eating at Poppies restaurants in Kuta and Strawberry 🍓 Hills ,on a trip to Lovina, all our worries and stress of the past years of absence melted away. This is truly an experience every traveller to Bali should experience at least once.Like my husband and I , you will want to come back.

Poppies Cottages in Kuta. An oasis in the middle of possibly “ Old Kuta “ Poppies One once the heartbeat of Kuta, somewhat paralized by Covid 19 but Poppies Cottages has remained resolute, complete with staff and standards. You would have to travel a long way to find such style, commitment and attention to detail. The gardens remind me of the Island of Torchello in the outer lagoon close to Venice. The architecture, look closely, you will not see this in a hurry again I can assure - we still find it quite mesmerising in this day and age, you will not find a lava rock pool like the one at Poppies. We have been travelling to Indonesia non stop for 35 years and Poppies has been our home away from home over this time. Even the music that gets piped through at the restaurant is as old as John Taylor himself. The staff know what they are doing and are clearly well trained, kind and attentive.

Thank you for a wonderful stay! We stayed at the beginning of our Bali holiday and missed it so much that we had to return! From the immaculate grounds to the charming, beautifully maintained cottages, this place is a delight. I’d recommend Poppies to anyone who is looking for a quiet, peaceful, intimate place to stay. Our daughter loved the cats, frogs, fishponds, dragonflies and beautiful gardens. The breakfasts were wonderful too, and we loved that we could have them at our cottage or in the restaurant. Staff seemed happy and were polite, helpful and friendly. I’d recommend a little flexibility regarding late checkouts where possible. The surrounding area is struggling a little, now that the action seems to have moved to Seminyak/ Canggu, but this also makes for a quiet stay. Love the next door rooster!!! Thank you 🙏🏻.

Thanks from the team for such a lovely review! We particularly appreciate your observation that the move to Canggu of much of Kuta's former action has in fact made a stay at Poppies more peaceful. Poppies Restaurant is close by, and the beach is of course still only a short walk away. We look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

As all previous reviews have stated it’s a great place, great staff and great breakfast. Room service was great as well and just as cheap as if we were dining at a local restaurant outside. The place is so quiet considering how hectic it is outside.
We had the Xmas dinner there which was really yummy.
We booked our onward travel to Gili T from there and the staff were helpful in aiding our booking, but what I would say is that for such a nice place, the company you are affiliated with for this is below standard. We were met at the hotel and shown to a crowded mini bus with no air conditioning and no indication which port we were going to. We were on there for almost 3 hours, passing several ports making the same journeys that would have been much closer to the hotel, and then the boat we were on was the worst in the port by far. I would go as far to say that it was unsafe. The emergency exit windows were only small enough to fit a small child through, others would have had little or no chance of reaching the small doors at the front and back because of how crowded it was If something had happened and the boat had capsized or began sinking the consequences would be extremely bad, I could hear others on the boat expressing the same concerns. When we arrived at Gili T there were other much better boats pulling up so I would try to use those ones instead. The company we used began with a K but I can’t remember the name.
Obviously this is of no fault of the hotel but I wanted to make some awareness as they may consider using a different company to recommend to guests in the future!

A free airport pickup and a transfer through very busy Kuta streets ending in the narrow poppies lane 1 we arrived at the lovely Hotel. Nice private walkways to the individual cottages. Plenty of room for 2. Fine open air bathroom (Mandy). Bed mattress was well worn but still comfortable. The grounds are magnificent. Plenty of shrubs and trees and flowers. Superb pool. Very good restaurants nearby. This is THE place to stay in Kuta !

We stayed for four nights. We loved the lush grounds the bungalows were in. We could hear sounds of nature all around us. The pool was small but very beautiful. Our bungalow had a huge king size bed. We had an extra mattress on the floor as we are a family of four. We loved the location of our bungalow. It was closer to the road but very private and fairly quiet. The wifi in our room was a bit scanty. Most mornings we could not access it or it was very slow. Evenings were a tad bit better. The only other thing that was a miss was the bungalow smelled very musty the first couple of days. We left the window open and it did improve a little. Overall, my family enjoyed our stay at Poppies and would definitely return if we get the opportunity.

Thanks for taking the time to write us a helpful review. We are looking into the WiFi situation in your room. The musty smell as we always explain, is the only slight downside of our beautiful Balinese thatched roofs - there is inevitably a slight 'hay-loft' aroma from the grass used. But the big plus is that you get to view an incredible Balinese traditional roof from both outside and inside your room! A ceiling would spoil all that.

After not being able to visit beautiful Bali for nearly three years, my sister and I finally returned to our little paradise in the middle of busy Kuta. Mr Sujana and his wonderful team greeted us as if it were only yesterday. We have stayed at Poppies on a number of occasions so we were so happy to see they survived Covid and came out eager to greet all their friends/guests. Looking forward to our next visit….soon I hope.

Never cold, but always refreshing. We have made it our habit to end every trip to Bali with a stay at Poppies. We don't like Kuta, but Poppies gives you immediate access to all the Kuta shopping , pubs and restaurants without compromising the quality of your stay.
There are more places to choose from in the Kuta area.
