After nearly four decades Poppies is still being discovered by those wishing to escape the glitz and glamour of grandiose hotels while expecting comfortable clean surroundings, friendly service, and Balinese charm. Spacious individual thatched cottages filled with collectors' antiques, Indonesian fabrics and a host of creature comforts nestle in beautifully kept gardens with ponds, waterfalls, towering coconut palms, and a stunning swimming pool built among rocks and sunbathing terraces, overhung with riotous bougainvillea.

Our stay with family was good.. it is next to shopping street. everything was close by, beach, shopping, massage etc. Only the drawback was morning breakfast. everyday same menu. also per person you can order only 5 items. Pool was excellent.

Thanks for the nice review. I'm sorry, we'd like to follow up on your breakfast comment, but we don't quite understand it. If your room rate included breakfast, then indeed you got to choose 1 item from each of 5 categories - 5 breakfast items per person seems reasonable, we feel. There are several choices within each category, so we don't understand what you mean by "every day same menu" - you could choose something different from yesterday, for weeks if you stayed long enough! If your room rate did not include breakfast, then there's a full a la carte breakfast menu with prices.

A little piece of heaven, so peaceful! Beautiful surroundings, excellent staff, so helpful. Immaculately clean property. A little oasis from the outside hustle and bustle of Kuta. I would 100% recommend Poppies.

Beautiful oasis in otherwise busy Kuta. Relatively high price, but worth every penny. Go there, especially during this Corona affected season. Even more serene now. Maybe as nice and quiet ss the place was thirty or forty years ago.

Stayed only 1 night at Poppies, our first night in Bali. Great experience. It is what everyone says it is, a peaceful oasis in the heart of busy Kuta.

Stayed only 1 night at Poppies, our first night in Bali. Great experience. It is what everyone says it is, a peaceful oasis in the heart of busy Kuta. The breakfast was delicious and huge. All the cottages are secluded. The pool area and grounds are beautiful. They do day tours from there which we wish we'd made time for. Wonderful stay.

So happy to be travelling again after Covid and to be able to return to Poppies. What a special place it is - the friendly staff, the beautiful cottages, the gorgeous gardens and pool and, of course, Poppies Restaurant. What a fabulous package all rolled into one! Can’t wait til our next visit comes around, which we’re already booking.

Stayed at Poppies Cottages with my sister for ten days. The gardens are spectacular. Swimming pool and spa were also fantastic. Just a little paradise in the hustle and bustle.

Downside was not being able to get a taxi to the cottages. You have to exit at Bemo corner and walk - not that it's a big problem but late at night you have to pass through some dark alleys - and lots of dogs.

Dogs were a problem. Kept me awake all night with the barking and fighting.

Only other downside was no tv in the room. I had to hire a tv and dvd player which I thought should have been standard.

The outdoor bathroom was fantastic, the staff couldn't have been more helpful. The cottages were fine, nothing overflash but perfect for what we wanted.

I probably wouldn't stay here again because I think you can get better value (with a tv) elsewhere but if your after a tranquil atmosphere then it might suit you.

As from 1 January 2007 each Poppies Cottage now has the added facility of a Sony 23" wide-screen LCD TV with 40 channels available, together with brand-new DVD player for screening movies. The screen swivels to face either the bed or the seating alcove. IPod and other MP3 users are also catered for - there is now a connector to the existing in-room audio system.

We spent four nights in Poppies I in Kuta, and would have gladly stayed longer had our itinerary allowed. The cottages are very comfortable and positioned for maximum privacy; you can sit on your front porch and feel that you are in a private garden. The layout of the cottage was great, and the bathroom was our hands-down favorite balinese bathroom of all the ones we saw during our three weeks there, even compared against places we stayed that cost three times as much per night.

The staff was very attentive- when we checked in, the woman who showed us to our cottage noticed a few burned out bulbs, and came back five minutes later with a workman to have them replaced. Also, when we checked out, the staff noticed I'd left my earrings on the bedside table, and came running out to the car to give them to me before we drove off.

We had been warned against staying in the middle of Kuta; others told us Kuta would be noisy and filled with drunken students. This was not at all our experience at Poppies I- it was always quiet and peaceful inside the hotel grounds. The pool is beautiful, they have a great mac-equipped internet library, and will keep the fridge in your room stocked with exactly what you want if you let them know.

We plan to go back on our next trip to Bali.

Not sure I should tell everyone how lovely poppies is ,fearful we will have difficulting booking in again, they were turning people away when we were there so word is out already.Poppies is a haven in the centre of the chaos that is Kuta.believe it or not it was the quietest place we have ever stayed in Bali.Once you are behind the wall it's like being in your own secret garden. The cottages are cosi,in true Bali style .lovely comfy beds.outstanding service ,fantastic little bar over looking a fantastic pool area.No more searching the net for hotels to stay at in Bali just book me into poppies.

We usually stay in mid priced accomodation when we go to Bali but after seeing the reviews, decided to give Poppies a go.The arrival was a nightmare with Poppies Lane being hard to transverse with our driver but the minute we arrived into the grounds, we were impressed. The rooms that we had asked for were ready for us and our baggage delivered. The rooms were all secluded and private. You walked into a spacious spotless room with a huge bed and sitting area. The rooms have cable TV with hundreds of channels and a DVD player is in each room.Free Wifi for guests as well. There was airconditioning and fans so you had the choice. There was even a fan on your porch to keep you cool. The outdoor bathrooms were to die for with traditional almost shine area in each one.Even though it was an open bathroom the ceiling was a mosie net to stop any unwanted visitors.Every morning they deliver Balinese tea, a water pitcher,Newspaper and fresh bananas. The tea stayed hot and was delicious. The gardens were beautiful and well kept. The gardeners were always there with the hotel dogs working away manicuring lawns and sweeping away leaves. The pool was right outside our room(No 17) and yet there was no noise from the pool unless it was our kids.......Even at the pool you still still had privacy in small areas as the pool is long and oddly shaped. The water was always a beautiful temperature and spotlessly clean. There was a poolside bar but we didnt use it.Only found out later there was an internet room with free internet for guests. We had to leave early and I informed the front desk. The next day I was refunded in full in US cash for the time we wouldnt be there plus the tax. This was done without having to be asked. They also have free airport transfers for all guests. The staff were fantastic and couldnt do enough for you. They came and turned down your bed each night and left mosie coils burning. There was always security at the gate with a friendly hello.Being that it was Poppies Lane you would have expected some noise,Especially that we were there over Xmas and New Year. The minute you walked through the gate you were transported to a quiet, peaceful oasis away from the ratrace outside the wall around the complex. They dont serve breakfast but do have the option of ordering from Poppies restaurant across the lane. You simply ticked what you wanted on a card and leave it for the ladies when they deliver the tea around 6am.The prices were more expensive than eating on the street but still reasonable and a fantastic range. You just choose what time you would like it delivered.
Only downside that I could mention is that you were in Poppies Lane 1.Every time you stepped out of your hotel you had to watch for motorbikes and cars. This was over ridden by the fact that you had fantastic restaurants at your doorstep like Bamboo Corner and Agung.Jennifers Spa was across the road and they do the best massages Ive ever had for less than $7 for the hour.
I would recommend this hotel for every type of traveller who wants to be pampered including those with kids.A couple across the way from us had a babysitter to look after their baby so they could get some time out.Fantastic...This hotel has it all and is one of the best I have ever stayed in.It deserves its No 1 rating in Kuta

Never cold, but always refreshing. We have made it our habit to end every trip to Bali with a stay at Poppies. We don't like Kuta, but Poppies gives you immediate access to all the Kuta shopping , pubs and restaurants without compromising the quality of your stay.
