After nearly four decades Poppies is still being discovered by those wishing to escape the glitz and glamour of grandiose hotels while expecting comfortable clean surroundings, friendly service, and Balinese charm. Spacious individual thatched cottages filled with collectors' antiques, Indonesian fabrics and a host of creature comforts nestle in beautifully kept gardens with ponds, waterfalls, towering coconut palms, and a stunning swimming pool built among rocks and sunbathing terraces, overhung with riotous bougainvillea.

This was the 7th time I’ve stayed at Poppies - superb cottages, very private, so peaceful and quiet - you wouldn’t know you were in kuta!! The staff are extraordinarily kind and helpful. The pool is magnificent as are the surrounding gardens. It’s restaurant likewise superb.

A beautiful cosy paradise away from the hustle and bustle with secluded villas and a lovely swimming pool. There is no noise at night and the serenity is just wonderful. Staff are beautiful and never stop smiling. A perfect getaway. You are close to Kuta beach and Poppies Villas have a stunning restaurant right next door where happy hour cocktails are available most of the afternoon at $5 a pop. The staff make you feel at home and welcome you as if you are a long lost friend. Made, Kadek, Kopi, and all the hotel staff are just so wonderful. Anybody looking for a reasonably priced Villa in the heart of Kuta need look no further. Just quietly Villa 19 was our pick of the Villas

We recently stayed at Poppies for 8 nights and had breakfast included in the stay. This was my first trip to Bali and it more than met my expectations! Poppies is stunningly gorgeous and feels like you are in the middle of paradise! It has a peaceful, relaxed atmosphere which is just what my partner and I needed. Attention to detail is exceptional, down to the evening ritual of staff replacing and lighting the mozzie coil on your veranda and giving you new strips for the plug in mozzie repellents in the rooms. Staff were extremely friendly, polite and welcoming. Sitting around the pool each day was the most relaxed we have felt in a long long time and there is no noise from outside the resort, unlike some of the other busier hotels we noted along Kuta and Seminyak. Poppies is

Thank you Arls and Baz for such fantastic words of praise. Thank you for pointing out to the world at large the reasons why Poppies is the perfect place to stay in all of Kuta, and by implication perhaps, in all of Bali! Hope to welcome you back soon.

After 5 years absence,at last to return to Poppies was wonderful .The first morning back, awakening to the beauty, and tranquillity of our cottage and Poppies amazing garden made me really emotional. It was a delight to be once again sitting on the verandah of our cottage eating the delicious breakfast prepared so well by Poppies restaurant. And the staff are the same warm and friendly people I love.Relaxing in the pool ,walking through the gardens, eating at Poppies restaurants in Kuta and Strawberry 🍓 Hills ,on a trip to Lovina, all our worries and stress of the past years of absence melted away. This is truly an experience every traveller to Bali should experience at least once.Like my husband and I , you will want to come back.

Another 12 days of relaxation at one of our favourite resorts here in Kuta. The staff are so friendly and helpful and it is in such a great location with access to shops and beach. It is very busy here, so the word is out that Poppies is good value for money. Well done Poppies and keep up the good work.

A wonderful memory-lane trip to Kuta was based on this charming hotel with its delightfully old-fashioned service. This is not the five-star hermetically sealed westernised environment that many hotels in south Bali strive to provide, but something rather more in tune with the indigenous heritage of the island and the hotel's establishment in the 70s. The cottages are spacious and comfortable (and the slight smell of hay and the occasional mosquito that ignores the various repellents enhance the character of the rooms), whilst the equally spacious and well equipped bathrooms, with their open to the skies gardens, are all that one could need. Breakfasting on one's private verandah is a lovely way to start the day and the restaurant across the 'gang' offers an alternative, as

We are all more than grateful for such an apt appraisal of what we have long aspired to offer our guests - a little bit of the Bali that was so much more prevalent in Kuta when the Poppies story began almost 50 years ago, and that we feel more than ever is so well worth preserving and showcasing.

I had previously booked another hotel for my stay in the same area. However, upon carful scrutiny of the reviews, I decided to cancel it and book with Poppies. I was really happy to have made this choice. Not only did Poppies live up to the expectation, also the other property which I had booked had a very rundown appearance from outside. Facts 1. Poppies is located at the east end of Jalan Poppies - I almost touching Jalan Legian. For those who are new, Jalan Poppies is an extremely narrow lane with just enough space for only one vehicle in any direction. This means that if you have to hail a ride, you'll have to walk down to the main road 2. It's a good 10 min walk from Jalan Pantai Kuta - the main road along the Kuta beach. This would mean that every time one wants to go

Poppies is very grateful to you for the high rating you have provided, and thanks you for taking the time to provide such a comprehensive review of so many aspects of Poppies and its immediate surroundings. We have taken note of your suggestions for improvements. We'd like to point out that guests do not need to buy their beers etc in mini marts, as we will stock your fridge with with a minimum of 6 cans at a time, for the same price, and this is indicated on the fridge door. We would also like to mention that in our opinion our breakfast choices are in fact quite comprehensive.

Thank you for a wonderful stay! We stayed at the beginning of our Bali holiday and missed it so much that we had to return! From the immaculate grounds to the charming, beautifully maintained cottages, this place is a delight. I’d recommend Poppies to anyone who is looking for a quiet, peaceful, intimate place to stay. Our daughter loved the cats, frogs, fishponds, dragonflies and beautiful gardens. The breakfasts were wonderful too, and we loved that we could have them at our cottage or in the restaurant. Staff seemed happy and were polite, helpful and friendly. I’d recommend a little flexibility regarding late checkouts where possible. The surrounding area is struggling a little, now that the action seems to have moved to Seminyak/ Canggu, but this also makes for a quiet stay.

Thanks from the team for such a lovely review! We particularly appreciate your observation that the move to Canggu of much of Kuta's former action has in fact made a stay at Poppies more peaceful. Poppies Restaurant is close by, and the beach is of course still only a short walk away. We look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

I have been staying at Poppies for more than a decade and love waking up each morning and being able to sit on the porch in my own private garden. Being a small property you are able to get to know the welcoming and friendly staff and feel part of the Poppies family. The pool is in a quiet, tropical setting and lacks the coldness of the pools in large resorts. Pool beds offer privacy and are thoughtfully arranged in groups of two/ three in the beautiful garden area. Cottages are spacious, perfect for one, two or a third can be accommodated. I love leaving the hustle and bustle of the Kuta streets, markets and street stalls and escaping into this serene piece of paradise. The well known Poppies restaurant is 20 metres down the lane, set in tropical gardens. I have eaten here for
