Three years ago w were fortunate enough to be made aware of "The Secret Garden Inn" off Poppies 1 in Kuta Bali. It truly is a gem of a find. The building only opened three years ago. It is oblong and you enter via a reception lounge/offie. It has three levels, built in an oblong with the centre piece being a 9ft deep lengthy pool. Not suitable for youngsters. Ground floor and second floor have double rooms on the Eastern side, twin rooms on the Northern. Third level has a variety of town house type suites all with own gardens full kitchens, laundry etc., Breakfast is included for the double and twin rooms.. The rooms were like a spacious Motel room complete with punker fan also Air Conditioning individually controled a TV with remote also a large fridge over a metre high. Plenty…
We re-visited this hotel in January 2006. Although maintaining its delightfully secluded atmosphere it was disappointing to find that most of the exterior air-conditioning compressors were very worn and noisy, and consequently the indoor units were inefficient and needed to be kept at full blast to maintain a comfortable temperature. I would go there again, but only when the AC has been upgraded. Incidentally, the lady who complained that taxis cannot reach Poppies got it all wrong - did it not occur to her how Poppies own shuttle bus operates? To reach Poppies, cars must approach from the seaward end of Gang Poppies 1 and turn right into their parking space. Nev Robinson
We spent four nights in Poppies I in Kuta, and would have gladly stayed longer had our itinerary allowed. The cottages are very comfortable and positioned for maximum privacy; you can sit on your front porch and feel that you are in a private garden. The layout of the cottage was great, and the bathroom was our hands-down favorite balinese bathroom of all the ones we saw during our three weeks there, even compared against places we stayed that cost three times as much per night. The staff was very attentive- when we checked in, the woman who showed us to our cottage noticed a few burned out bulbs, and came back five minutes later with a workman to have them replaced. Also, when we checked out, the staff noticed I'd left my earrings on the bedside table, and came running…
We paid $65 a night and stayed for 7 days. After a hectic but satisfying day around Kuta, we could hide in the tranquility of our bungalow set in beautiful gardens with little fishfilled ponds and tiny waterfalls everywhere... The swimming pool is absolutely spectacular and inviting. Hard to believe this is smack bang in the middle of Kuta... The service was excellent and the staff were available at all times... Broadband internet available in our room at only 5 bucks a day! We rented a driver and vehicle for a whole day for $30, the driver was very friendly and professional and a joy to be with all day and, believe me, we were very demanding... I would recommend this hotel to anybody anytime, it is hard not to rave about this little gem, stay away from the big places and feed…
Stayed at Poppies Cottages with my sister for ten days. The gardens are spectacular. Swimming pool and spa were also fantastic. Just a little paradise in the hustle and bustle. Downside was not being able to get a taxi to the cottages. You have to exit at Bemo corner and walk - not that it's a big problem but late at night you have to pass through some dark alleys - and lots of dogs. Dogs were a problem. Kept me awake all night with the barking and fighting. Only other downside was no tv in the room. I had to hire a tv and dvd player which I thought should have been standard. The outdoor bathroom was fantastic, the staff couldn't have been more helpful. The cottages were fine, nothing overflash but perfect for what we wanted. I probably wouldn't stay here again…
