This accommodation caters mainly for people who want to spent a few days in a spiritual environment. My goal was just to explore North Bali area and we have a very pleasant days in Sananda Bungalows. Just to focus the expectations you must know that there is no swimming pool, the beach is 20 minutes walking, and the dining room is a communal space with a big table and cushions for sitting who closed at about 22:00. It seems this is not the usual accommodation but keep in mind what you get: - Lovely bungalows with air con between verdant gardens. - The food is tasty and the traditional plates are foreign friendly based in the local market supply. Vegetarian and non vegetarian options available. Beers also available. - Support of the local Balinese communities making valuable efforts in sustainable development. Logistic advantages we get: - Nice local drivers with reasonable prices. - They will pick you up and drop you off anywhere in Bali. (A must because Bali have a few public transport options). - Gina the manager is full of tips to visit the area, also have a lot of patience during our booking process via their website, we always get a quick response to our questions. - Easy access to key places in North Bali like Munduk area, Lovina Beaches, Sekumpul waterfalls, and snorkeling trips to Menjangan Island. I would recommend a minimum staying of four days to visit the area and enjoy the accommodation.…
We had a wonderful week in October 2014, it felt like home (I can't change the automatically chosen date). The houses and the garden were beautiful, great view from the terrace, comfortable beds and a cozy hammock. The food, wether it was breakfast or lunch or dinner, and the fresh made shakes were terrific. Edi and his family were the ultimate perfect hosts, they were helpful in every way (arranged tours around the Island with very nice drivers, took us to the beach...), they made our stay as perfect as it could be and they were/are so lovely and nice people. We also had fantastic massages there. Thank you all for such a wonderful time and sorry for the late review. best regards, Jenny & Eric
I had a great time in Sananda Bungalows. The local family who runs the business are super friendly and they are cooking amazing balinese food. The dishes were so yummy that I decided to come back for a cooking class 3 month later
I arrived at Sananda Bungalows with a headcold that developed into a chest infection later on. Dewi, Edi as well as the whole team were the most obliging hosts, nothing was too much, be it a remedy or special food or finding a cooling device for my laptop. They shared their knowledge very generously about Balinese life and customs, activities in the area or how to cook a delicious soup. I had a wonderful 2 week's stay and as it says on the website, I truly felt I left as a friend. Ariane
Sananda Bungalows is located about 6 km inland from Lovina Beach. It consists of two standard and two superior bungalows, a pavillon which can be used for massages or yoga sessions and one main house in where the hosts have their facilities. In front of this house there is a lovely dining area. The whole area is situated in an amazing garden with mango trees, papayas, jack fruit, coconut trees, lemongrass and a lot more local plants. We stayed at Sananda for 3 nights and it was absolutely stunning. In all of my travelling life i've never felt so much at home as at Sananda. This is mainly due to the hosts and their hospitality. Every day they asked us about our wishes for dinner and then either bought everything fresh off the market (fish, chicken etc) or collected it of their own garden. The dinner every day was absolutely delicious (e.g. balinese fish with jack fruit salad, tempe and rice or chicken satay with a young mango salad) at a very reasonable price. The host family always sat down with us at the dining area and we had some really nice conversations about life in indonesia. The hosts organizes everything for their guests (scooter, trips or transport). I really recommend doing the dolphin excursion with Captain Made Keki - this captain doesn't leave as early as the other lovina boats and therefore you are pretty alone with the dolphins. The typical early dolphin excursion is more a dolphin hunt (there were at least 40 boats out looking for the dolphins) and can not be recommended (it must be really stresful for the dolphins). Another nice things to do around Sananda are massages from an elderly balinese Woman who comes to Sananda. It is a massage combined with a little bit of balinese healing - a really interesting experience. Furthermore there are some nice things to see around lovina (buddhist monastery, hot springs, waterfalls...). To sum up: thanks again to the hosts for their hospitality and the possibility to get to know the balinese culture and food better! They are really walking the extra mile to make their guests happy! …
Very beautiful garden in a quiet environment . Ideal to rest few days ! Staff is really kind , dinner with Bali specialities.. Rooms big, clean and nice. We feel at home.... Just activities around are a bit expensive for Bali island. Water falls trip amazing...
My friend and I stayed at Sananda Bungalows for 3 nights and absolutely loved it. The family who own the bungalows were welcoming and incredibly helpful, as well as being very friendly. As we were the only visitors they upgraded our room at no extra charge which was extremely generous and the room itself was beautiful. The location was great for tranquility and meditation in the mornings, a mere 3km from Anturan Beach and just 5km from Lovina. Although the beaches were disappointing the views and the proximity to attractions such as the holy hot springs was a bonus. I will be back!
Lovely greeting on arrival. Staff are brilliant, there for anything you need, English is amazing. I would like to see a pool or airconditioning as it can become uncomfortable and hot during your stay. I was there in September 2014. The room is kept immaculate, lovely gardens. A little far from all the attractions, this can also be a good thing as it is peaceful. The food was presented beautifully and tastes superb. The dog does need to be kept away from the areas the guests are using as he is not fully trained and can get out of control jumping on the guest and scratching through the skin. I would recommend this place if you are happy to pay for travel into the main area as it would be uncomfortable to walk all that way, or if you are happy to just relax and use the facilities and not venture anywhere for the time you are there.…
Best place we've been during our trip in Indonesia, Edy and his team were fantastic. Dinner was also superb. Would highly recommend this place to everyone, and if we ever visit Indonesia again, we would visit Sananda for sure.
What a find. Gina and her staff treat you as a special guest and attend to all your travel needs. This is a small establishment with 5 individual bungalows in a beautiful garden setting in the hills above Lovina. Most people have their own transport either motorbikes or cars with drivers but we were independent. We enjoyed walking around the area, visiting the nearby village where the well trained staff come from, their meals are mostly vegetarian and unbelievably tasty with the most wonderful sambal which we are totally addicted to. The accommodation is simple, spacious bathroom, deck with views. Extremely relaxing and friendly especially with all guests meeting and eating in the open common area. Filtered water and herbal drinks are available complimentary at all times. No hesitation in recommending Sananda, we would be very happy to visit again.…
