Been stayed here for business trip and shocked to found such as beautiful and well maintain place in the middle of nowhere.

This was a lovely “get away” spot with tree-house accommodation reaching up the side of the mountain and views of the un-spoilt surrounding jungle. The pool is magnificent and there are many additional views to be had by climbing different pathways. However, we found a few little things let the place down a bit – the curtains in the room did not entirely cover the window so you were woken up early as the sun rose; the TV did not work; the dinner dishes served were only just okay and breakfast was only three Indonesian style dishes (fried rice or noodles). The bathroom is a bit small and so the shower drowns the whole area which is not always good for the next person using the room. There was no internet coverage which is not surprisingly considering the location but this also meant our Visa transaction would not go through to the Bank when they tried and we had to pay cash - so take plenty with you. But for a quiet peaceful get-away break, you could hardly do better. Oh yes, be warned that there are MANY steps so for senior citizens like us that posed a slight problem – but we managed!

We stayed in a family villa which was up many steps but on arrival they provided a car to bring up the bags and also when leaving. There was also a golf buggy that could take you up to the room if the steps were too much! The view from the room was worth the steps. The villa itself was lovely and very spacious. It had a connecting balcony between the 2 rooms with an outside sink and cooking area. This was an added bonus as there is a local shop across from the complex and we were able to cook some meals. We did eat in the restaurant each day and the food was good. The staff seemed reluctant and nervous to speak to us as we were English speaking. The resort itself has many payable activities such as zip lining, canoeing and pedal boats. There was also a small zoo but this part we did not enjoy as the cages looked very small for the animals. On leaving we had a free transfer to the port, we were heading to Batam. The driver was so helpful, he brought us right to the ticketing counter of the boats and helped us get tickets sorted because of the language barrier. A brilliant stay but not 5 stars only because of the price. It was expensive compared to some other places we stayed in Indonesia with similar facilities.

Booked and arranged to this hotel via Groupon. Paid $68++ and got these offers: Free lunch, Mangrove tour, Sunset dinner, Firefly watching, free breakfast and two way ferry and land transfer wherein I had a very unpleasant experience. Here's what happened:

Day 1: Saturday morning when we arrived from Tanjung Pinang jetty, we met the driver / manager of the hotel from the jetty gate. Upon reaching to the hotel car, its 2 wheels on the right were flat. Yes, someone made the tires flat! Manager/ Driver said that we have to wait for an hour to let it fixed. He actually don't know what to do at first so we suggested that all he need was to get a back-up car and while waiting we'll eat first at the restaurant nearby. He was actually hesitant at first then agreed to it later on then brought us to a small eatery nearby.
After waiting for 45 mins at the eatery, everything went smoothly...

Upon checking in, reception gave me a key, which I found out later on that it was mistakenly given to me, they even told me WAIT for the next available room and in the end, told me to stay with my friend in a much smaller room (comparing to our other friends' room) because they said that's the agent booked for us. Okay, so to make the confusion end, I agreed to it yet didn't receive a call from the management to apologize, no nothing.

The room we got is very basic yet it is cozy and has a homey vibe. There's a queen size bed, hot shower, AC is working fine yet our fan isn't so I called the operator again and asked if we could move to the other room (which is obviously vacant) but they didn't return back at me. I felt disappointed again but it's not worth spoiling the trip so I just kept mum about it. I don't want to make an effort to argue as reception staff is not speaking / understanding English very well.

Afternoon and night time came, we are enjoying ourselves, we did the mangrove tour, had the sunset dinner, firefly watching and we managed to have a swim in the pool. It was a smooth, pleasant night then at around 9pm there are some Bahasa speaking guys, about 4-5 men next to our room (who obviously checked-in late) started partying! They turned on the TV in full blast then talked inconsiderately loud! My friend and I were patient enough and was able to sleep around 12 midnight but then at 4am we were already awake as these guys were having coffee and started talking loudly again!! I managed to knock and approached one of the guys nicely, which is a good thing and made us sleep for awhile but later on we got awake because a lot of people are now enjoying the morning swim at the pool.

8am – Feeling giddy and sleepy, we decided to eat breakfast. Foods were very basic - 2 varieties of fried noodles, boiled eggs w/ a chilli sauce and a fried rice.

9am - went to Gunung Bintan for a hike guided by Erol. I mentioned to him and told him everything while trekking and was very apologetic.

12pm - back from the hotel, decided to take a nap after the hike. (noisy guys from the other room checked-out), when after 10mins. the Reception staff called and told us that we need to leave the room as there are new guests arriving which I really find very disrespectful. Of course, I got mad and talked to the manager. What I only need is a good sleep at least before leaving the resort and seems pretty much didn't have a luck on this resort!

To be fair, the manager was very apologetic and gave us 30% discount on our meal as compensation but still I think it wasn't enough. I was there to relax and to get tons of sleep yet I experienced the opposite. (sad)

Overall, though my stay here was unpleasant, my friends said they enjoyed and rested well here. Maybe that weekend was not really meant for me. (sigh)

To summarize my review, here it is: I find the staffs here at this resort nice, cheerful and very helpful, you just need to speak slowly to them as some of them couldn't speak and understand English very well.

You have to take note also that the resort is far from the beach and it is much nearer to the mountain. You have to bring mosquito repellent and in case you forgot, don't worry as they'll provide it for free. If you are worried of getting bored, the resort has tons of activities to offer you i.e hiking, flying fox, mangrove tour, swimming and karaoke in the evening, etc. You can also rent a van to bring you to the beach for 150,000IDR 2-way. The internet connection in the room is average. Food is average and just don't expect anything fancy.

I was recently on business in Singapore for 2 weeks and as I had the weekend free I thought I would take a ferry over to Bintan Island. I took the ferry from Tanah Mirah next to Changi airport on the Friday afternoon and arrived in to the ferry port of Tanjung Pinang about 7.30PM. For anyone not from this part of the world I highly recommend Sindo Ferrys. It took 2 hours and was really easy to do.

Upon arriving at the ferry port on Bintan Island I was greeted by Taufik. He was awesome! He works for the hotel and they had kindly offered me free transportation from the ferry port to the hotel which I had organized prior to my visit. I then paid 250K IRP for my return on the Monday morning. I actually took the early ferry back to Singapore which meant that I needed to check out of the hotel Monday morning at 4.30 in the morning. They were awesome. I was greeted and promptly taken to the ferry port with no issues.

When I arrived at the hotel on the Friday I was greeted by a very friendly lady. She was very polite and courteous and couldn’t do enough to help me. Within 5 minutes I was taken to my room at the top of the hill and settled in with no issues.
If im being completely honest my room was slightly dated but taking in to consideration the location and the views I actually preferred this rustic, dated feel. I had some of the most amazing views of the jungle, as far as the eye could see. This is what I loved the most about the hotel. It was like being with nature and in a place where you are completely relaxed, away from the hustle and bustle of city life. A place you can re-energize and recharge so to speak. On the topic of the rooms I can see that the hotel have built many new apartments which I am sure are very modern inside. If you prefer this kind of thing then I would recommend asking at reception or prior to your visit.

The grounds of the hotel are immaculate. Everything has its place and is just beautifully well kept! I must have seen about 10 different types of butterflies, something you just don’t see where I am from in the UK. You can also explore the grounds and walk through the foliage and little gardens. A must if you are this way inclined.

The pool and restaurant were also amazing and very clean and tidy. A big thank you to Henry and the young lady who served me every night. To the young lady who I’m sorry I can’t remember your name, thank you - your service was brilliant.

The clifftop bar was also very good and the staff couldn’t do enough to help me and meet my needs. I was here every night. The music was awesome and the selection of drinks were also great. I highly recommend going up here just to see the views. You can also head a little further up the cliff and head to the observatory tower. I went here at around 12 midnight every night to see the full moon and it was incredible. The stars you can see are simply mind blowing in the complete darkness. It’s amazing to be surrounded by the jungle and hear the sounds of all the animals and insects under the stars.

Overall I highly recommend this hotel. It’s perfect if you’re looking to get away and relax. If you want something busy then this Hotel isn’t for you. However that being said they do have a shuttle service and will take you to some of their other resorts on the Island. This could be worth a look.

Stayed in a deluxe balcony room (the older ones) and was concerned about mosquitoes at first based on what I've read from other contributors. But, I was totally fine throughout the trip and enjoyed my stay there.

The resort is well-maintained with lots of pretty spots for pics! Be aware that quite a fair bit of walking is required to get to places in the resort (e.g. from the room to the reception, from the cafe to the pool). Buggy can be requested if you need.

The breakfast at the restaurant was delicious although the selection was limited. Chilling out at the Cliff Cafe was serene with great views. All the staff I've encountered are very warm and friendly. The pool was a great escape from the heat with tranquil greenery view.

This is the place to go to if you want peace!

Dear A Pleasant Gem Thank you for the comments that you posted on this website, which really helped us to assess the shortcomings and strengths of the services and facilities we provide and we offer to all guests both domestic and international, this is very helpful for us as well as marketing for the guests - outside guests who have never visited Bintan Island especially with a different scenery as Bintan is more famous for its beach resorts but in our resort the feel of the mountains and green trees. We and the rest of the team say thank you very much for your vacation visit we look forward to the next visit.

A long time ago, my teacher told me not to display my ignorance but I must reveal that when you go to some place with not much expectation, you may be in for a great surprise.
This is exactly what happened at De Bintan Villa. The staff were slow in confirming the reservation but Mr Lukman was helpful and reassuring to confirm my booking and hotel transfer.
The driver Jorkie was also nice and friendly when he came to pick us and we were greetly with a genuine smile and warm welcome from Mr Lukman upon arrival.
When we were ferried to our villa by the activity guy, he mentioned that our villa had a very good view of the sunset and beach. That set the tone for the rest of the stay as we basked in the glory of the beauty of God's creation, with the villa nestled within the midst of the forestry and lush greenery.
The compound had lotsa nooks and corner but was well maintained and not unkempt. The infinity pools were nice and the villa also had a viewing deck plus gazebo if you choose to dine up in the mountain.
The reception service was smooth but you would need to have cash if credit card connection is down. However, when we went for lunch after check in, they had stopped serving th lunch since it was past 3pm and we had to order from the alacarte. We decided to do a simple fried rice and soup but it took more than 1 and half hours to come. I cringe to think how long it would take if we order from our rooms or the gazebo at the top of the hill. This needs to improve to attract the well heeled when it come to timing and responsiveness.
Overall if you can put up with the cafe service and the tough edges in the room, you would be rewarded with the peaceful surrounding of birds singing and tranquility of the melodious sounds of the crickets.
Highly recommended for a respite from the beach resorts but just be prepared for the food service, which unfortunately was a major let down.

This hotel represents all that I love about Indonesia. Simple, close to nature, unpretentious and full of sweet, kind people

Wife and I spent the weekend there.

If you want to do nothing but hang around in a verdant green area and read books / chill by the pool, this is great.

Sometimes a bit rough around the edges but the incredible sweetnesss of the staff and the low price point make up for it in spades.

There's a lot of climbing up and down as the rooms are perched on a steep hill, but the staff will gladly pick you up in a golf cart.

In particular the receptionist Ms Weta and her colleague communicated with us for days before over WhatsApp, answering dozens of questions. When we were there, they took amazing care of us.

E.g. They called us to remind us of dinner time and if they should send food over to our room!

The food was decent, not great. Good idea to bring lots of snacks/ramen/drinks as their minimart isn't open (Nov 2016) and there are no shops nearby. Also bring insect repellent.

Everyone from the Drivers to kayak instructors to the dining staff were also very courteous and responsive. (Kayak pond is tiny so don't expect lots of action!)

While cycling in the compound, my cycle broke down. Instantly a bunch of kids and villagers came over and fixed it for me without any expectations (took nearly 20 mins!), just out of the goodness of their hearts.

Overall a wonderful experience and we'd love to return.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 3D2N (Sat-Mon) during the end of Feb and we had such a fun time! I'm glad we chose to stay here out of the whole lot of other resorts at bintan.

Their service was really personal and the staff were so friendly and kind. They'd drive us up to our rooms after an activity or a meal (even though it's just a 5min steep walk up). Some examples: They offered to cook us eggs for breakfast, to light the mosquito coil for us when we were having dinner, provided us with our own little hut to have our meals in, and suggested alternative activities for us when what we wanted wasn't available. They try really hard to practise their English so they're able to communicate with us tourists, which is really admirable. :)

The room we had looked pretty, with complimentary bottled water, TV, electric kettle, soap and shampoo, towels and a balcony with seats if you want to chill outside. The bed came with a mosquito net which was our best friend when night time came. I guess the downside to this place is that there are some mosquitoes and insects in the bedroom, when you're eating, and such. But this can't be helped due to the open and natural setting surrounding the villa. And it was actually quite tolerable though, plus we found a cute baby grasshopper on my cup on the first day!

There was Wi-Fi in the balcony and at the gazebos when dining, but the focus of the trip was to relax in nature, so we didn't use it much. :)

We managed to squeeze in a whole lot of activities!
Day 1: Beach, mangroves and fireflies tour
Day 2: Hiking, snorkeling, massage
Day 3: Mini Zoo

Beach tour:
Our guide Marzuki is a really funny and interesting guy. He seems to know a lot about bintan and also knows many other people all around the island! The beaches were nothing special, but we picked up some cool looking seashells and saw quite some coastal animals like crabs.

Mangroves and fireflies tour:
(Marzuki was basically our guide for the whole day lol) he told us a lot about mangroves, how the people there catch crabs, and also personal life stories which were really interesting. :) when it was night time, marzuki and the other staff who was driving the boat helped us catch fireflies so we could look at them more closely, which was so nice of them! I'd recommend this tour!

Hiking:
The staff from the villa drove us to the bintan mountain and from there the experienced guide led the climb! It was a dangerous but also great experience climbing up (and down) steep slopes, getting muddy and sweaty, crossing a waterfall and trying to avoid falling to your death and disturbing angry insects.

We took about 2hours to climb up and down and it felt so good to conquer this mountain! I had mud all over my shoes, pants and bag at the end of it though...so make sure to carry light (the guide helped me carry my bag halfway through lol), wear either stretchy/flexible pants or shorts (though I must say if I wore shorts, I would've gotten more injuries. My pants protected me!).

Snorkeling:
This was my first time snorkeling and even though it rained just before and after our activity (in fact it kept raining just before we came to bintan), and the water was not as clear as I would have liked, I had a great first experience!

The instructor made sure we practised breathing through our mouths on land first before we made our way down into the waters. He also taught us personally, one by one to make sure we knew what to do. He took a lot of pictures for us as well with his underwater camera even though we didn't ask for it, and we got the pictures through email after. :) we briefly rinsed ourselves with water from a bucket after snorkeling and were brought back to the mainland from the nearby island!

Massage:
We were brought to jepunsari spa after snorkeling by this really great staff from de bintan (he also brought us to snorkeling too). The staff at the spa were caring and turned down the aircon when they noticed I was feeling cold during the massage! The massage was strong and felt really good especially after a whole day of exercise. The ginger tea after the massage tasted so good!

Mini Zoo:
Initially we wanted to do flying fox/high elements but my muscles were hurting a lot from the previous day so we couldn't do it. The mini zoo at de bintan was still under construction, but the operations manager, Lukman, helped us to arrange a trip to the zoo (in another resort actually), which was kind of him! I think the money we spent for the zoo could have been used for some other better activity though.

Overall: I'm really glad we chose to come here for our first time in Bintan. In terms of logistics it may be considered no-frills compared to other more expensive resorts, but it was an affordable and fun little escape into nature. I'm someone who prefers forests over beaches, so this was perfect for me as it's surrounded by trees. The people here seem really nice and I will definitely come back here again!

Thanks Mr lukman for his hospitality. This is a very good villa that I have ever stayed. It's 30 minutes drive from the Bandar Bentan Telani Ferry Terminal. you can arrange with them for free land transfer. You will never get bored even if you are staying in the villa. The in-house facilities include fishing, biking, flying fox, pool (under maintenance), kayaking in the man-made lake and etc. The price is friendly and the food is really good! You will never feel dangerous as there's always security guards patrolling around the villa. the villa surrounded by trees and you can see mount bintan from the villa. If you like nature this is definitely the best place that you should go! Get away from crowds, put down your phone and enjoy the stay with the ones you love!
