My first contact with the Griya Asri Hotel was with the wonderful Feby, who manages bookings - and just about everything - with great charm and a lovely sense of humour. My room was just as in the pictures. Clean, comfortable, spacious and tastefully modern, with a verandah looking out onto the garden; it exceeded my expectations. Bathroom was well designed and beautiful too. This hotel is walking distance to Universitas Mataram, but also close enough to the central city as well lots of little warungs for food and other supplies just a block or so away. How could it improve? More fruit offerings at breakfast and better lighting for late night students, and maybe a small fridge. Keep the coffee, Kopi Lombok is the perfect start to everyone's day! I'll be going back again next year - for the room, the location, for Feby and the generous manager, Ian. Terima kasih atas Anda sekalian!

Hotel Griya Asri, Mataram offers rooms with various facilities. All have air con and TV. A few have only Indonesian mandi but most have hot showers. Big double beds. Scrupulously cleaned. Restaurant on site and a 5 minute walk to university. New rooms are being built in Jan 2013 and a pool is planned to go in this year. The staff are absolutely charming and obliging, not just gorgeous Feby but all the lads. Their English is not perfect but hey, is your Indonesian?

We booked what was supposed to be a DECENT room, though, when there & presented with it, we were quite shocked. Not next to the pool, no views & with quite mouldy & well below average bathroom... We negotiated a room upgrade (of course by EXTRA payment & huggling for some time). We also were a bit stunned when some others whom were not happy with their rooms, got the upgrade for Free !! We were given such lame excuses why they couldn't do it with us. :-(
The new room was quite nice, & well appointed for the money we paid. In front of the pool & with a nice 'near' outdoor shower. The mattress cover seemed to have some staining by mosquito old brown blood marks (or other ?). Were clean though.
BTW: we had sent numerous emails to see whether the hotel can organise airport pickup, to which they never answered back...
1st morning Breakfast: OK, though, was lacking quite a few items from what they describe on their website. Dinning at the hotel is good quality & well priced (we thought so).
2nd morning Breakfast: No bread, cold food only, no jam..... despite we asked for numerous times.
3rd morning Breakfast: as per above, no butter, cold food again (no one bothered lighting up the fire cans > even after asking several times), coffee smelt BURNT, no fruit !!!
4th morning Breakfast: as per above, hardly any food again +++ NO tea either, although, was pleasantly surprised one staff member saw the situation & cooked us a scrambled egg plate...
The staff seem pleasant, though, are quite slow - maybe the language is a barrier ???
On our last day, we asked for a taxi to the airport. Their response was: They're all on strike or something to do with religious festivities, so, the ONLY option (supposedly) was to use their own mini bus @ quite a extravagant amount (for them) money. One staff ended up ordering a taxi, which was straight after cancelled > after they got some whispering in their ears...!
We ended up walking out the front, signalled down a taxi - which ended up costing us near half what they were asking for at the hotel.(aprox 115,000 rup). Instead of the supposed favourable & cheap 200,000 rup via the hotel.
There's not much to do or eat at close vicinity to the hotel. As mentioned above, the in-house food is nice, though, again, not everything listed is always available.
Please note, we actually put forward to the hotel (via email) our concerns, to which we NEVER got any replies. I thought that was very poor, as we simply brought to their attention certain situations, so they can improve their services.
Hence the reasons we're actually providing this info of our experience there.
We may be back there (if ever in Lombok), BUT, we now very WELL KNOW what to expect from Griya Asri. Certainly NOT what is promised on their advertising. For the extreme budget conscious, probably a good choice.
PS >>> Nothing towards majority of the staff, they were very nice (except for the leaving airport/taxi "shafty" business...)
Ohhhh: Don't forget too: We visited during their religious festivities (end July). Be prepared to hear the local Ymns via horn speakers & fireworks, blasting at close proximity to the hotel.

I stayed in Hotel Griya Asri for three weeks in January 2011 while studying Indonesian at the University of Mataram. I moved there from the Hotel Airlangga and never looked back. Griya Asri became the hotel of choice for any of the students and Australian lecturers who chose not to be use homestay accommodation - there was around 12 of us, using 8 rooms.
The owner, Ian (a shortened version of his Indonesian name), was very friendly and made me feel particularly welcome. His English is excellent, although I mostly tried to communicate in Indonesian - he was very gracious with my mistakes!.
The manager, Salim, went out of his way to make us feel at home; going so far as to ask what food we would like him to buy for the complementary breakfast each day (which included bread for toast, fresh fruit, tea, coffee and nasi goreng), and he also made sure there were a couple of English language channels on the TV, including HBO.
The rest of the staff have varying levels of English, but were always ready with a smile and keen to help out with any issues. The security guard was even once roped into giving me a lift on the back of the hotel's scooter, at no cost.
The room I stayed in was one of the best in the hotel and is listed at RP250,000 per night, which was a little more than AUD26. it was very large. Ian also gave us a discount on top of that because of the size of our group. My room had AC, western toilet AND toilet paper, King-sized bed, satellite TV, telephone, a fantastic shower and... wait for it...... FREE WIFI INTERNET!!!!! Some of the rooms have minibars, but (strangely) not the Deluxe Terrace Rooms, which are removed from the noise of the main road and have little outside sitting areas.
I was a couple of minutes too late to get one of the two truly awesome rooms in the hotel, which have a stacked stone shower and a real resort feel to them. There is a photo on the hotel's website that shows what I'm talking about. Having said that, my room was fantastic and a 1000% better than Hotel Airlangga, which charges similar rates for substandard service and amenities.
The only thing missing from the hotel is a pool...
The hotel's location was perfect for me, being within 300 meters of the University. It was a RP3,000 bemo or RP15,000 taxi trip to the Mataram Mall and about RP30,000 to seaside Senggigi. There are warungs everywhere, from which food, snacks, drinks or phone credit (called 'pulsa') can be bought. The hotel also provides room service, although I didn't use it. The hotel can do your laundy, which is charged per item (and relatively expensive), or you can walk across the road the the Handayani laundry (which is part of the SMK [TAFE equivalent]) and have it done for RP5000 per kilo with a 24 hour turnaround.
The website says that you can rent cars from the hotel, but I didn't use that service.

I would stay here again and recommend it to anyone going to Lombok. Senggigi is certainly more tourist-oriented, and the prices reflect it. Mataram was definitely better value.

First of all I'm a backpacker so my expectations aren't high...I booked this hotel for one night as it said it was close to the airport...and it is. The old airport. I flew in from Bali to the new airport (not realizing there were two) and it was an HOUR away by taxi (120,000 Rp). It advertised a restaurant which was another reason I booked it, getting in late, but all they had was a few cans of soft drink in a fridge in the reception and a couple of items you could get on room service (like burger or sandwich) NOT EVEN A BEER!
I don't know which rooms they put pictures of on their website but it was definitely not where they put me. First I was on the ground floor (room 210 I think) but I asked to be moved as the toilet was continually flowing and making a lot of noise, so they put me in the room next door. It was so manky. Walls had writing on, curtains were stained, bathroom was dirty and everything looked about thirty years out of date. Real shame as the little chap on reception was lovely (albeit not great English).
The bed was comfy though, so I slept well, managed to get one English speaking Singapore news channel on the tv (and a couple of fuzzy asian ones). Breakfast was inedible. Cold fried eggs covered in salt. Very weak coffee. Toast was ok, but then, when you're toasting it yourself you can't really go wrong!
They do have free bottled water and a computer terminal with internet in reception for guests to use, so that was good.
Last thing I will say is that the area around the hotel is residential. There is nothing here. Wouldn't be so bad if there was an actual restaurant or shop nearby for provisions, but no. That was another taxi ride away. Overall really disappointed. And that's saying something when I'm used to sleeping in dorm rooms!

I've stayed in places where a hose of cold water and dog urine weren't classified as issues for me...
So when we arrived to this place- we were shown a room which can only be described as the stunt room, it was bad (the bathroom had a toilet and a knee high tap with scoop- aka shower, stained sheets and a rotten cabbage smell throughout. I'd like a hose at least for $30p/n- not even a bidet was in here!
Seriously bad, we changed room for an additional 50,000Rp which was a lovely room, which is worth the $30p/n (like in the photos) which was outside the pool.
If this hotel wants to make money- it'll do it via return customers not quick $5.00 upgrades by first offering the most horrible rooms available, we felt a bit cheated..

the deluxe terrace room is a very nice room with hot water and a beatifull shower. it was very clean. every day the staff cleans the rooms and you get clean towels. you don't have a locker, but you don't need one! you can leave all your valuable stuff in the room and the staff don't take it. if we leave money as a tip, the money was still in the room when we came back. if you need something you ask the staff of the hotel. they will get it for you if you want something. you can have nice indonesian food in the hotel. the boss and manager are very nice and we had great contact with them. it's a very nice area when you want to be with the indonesian people. it's also close to every great city. it's only 7 minuts from the big mall in mataram and only like 45 minutes to the airport. we had a great stay!! if we come again we will come back to griya asri!!

We check in online for the hotel with swimming pool. Finally found this one. Photos looks awesome. Good job by the Photoshop guy. In reality nothing is matching as photos. The cleanliness is very far from average. The bedsheets are smelly and with stains. There is no restaurant service, swimming pool is under construction 🤐. Totally wasted our valuable time in a place like griya asri. Not recommended place to stay.

This afternoon,July 24 2014, my brother and sister-in-laws alltogether with my husband and I arrived at the lobby of Griya Asri hotel. My sis in laws has booked 2 rooms deluxe terrace by using voucher released by the owner. My sis in laws has confirmed it in June, reconfirmed it on 25 and 26 of July that we would be there on July 29. However, the receptionist first said that there's no reservation and no deposit so hotel didn't keep the room and only one room deluxe terrace left. Then, the receptionist tried to evade her mistakes by blaming us back. She said that the voucher was not valid until August 31. Well on the voucher it is written that it is valid from August 31, 2013 - September 1, 2014. When we showed that she evaded the mistake by saying that it was a 'given' voucher, so not an official one released by hotel. Then, she even called her boss in front of us and dared to say that there are some angry guests complaining about the reservation. All the reservation are received by the same person-the receptionist named Niluh- but she tried to evade her mistakes. What a behaviour! Guests are kings. Wrong or right, you're not supposed to treat the guests harshly. After a while debating, then she admitted that she had blocked two deluxe rooms for us, however, the reservation has been changed by someone for a travel agent. Very nice! What a management! We were offered 1 deluxe terrace room and 1 superior room. The hotel will cut the price for superior room. However, the superior room was not as nice as deluxe terrace. It has funny smell. No water and dirty toilet. I had to ask the employee to run the water and clean it up first. I really think that the hotel should free the charge for superior room for their suck management. Oh, by the way, while I'm writing this, there are some guests who already paid and reserved rooms, they are denied by saying there's no room left. What a treatment for guests. If I can choose, I never recommend this hotel to my friends. Once is enough.

Response from irviyan, Manager at OYO 972 Griya Asri Hotel Mataram
Responded 30 Jul 2014
Dear Guest, thank you very much for taking time and giving us thorough feed back. We are truly sorry for your unpleasant experience at our hotel. Certainly it is not our standard! I can assure you that we don't differentiate our customers regardless they hold gift vouchers or booking rooms other way. The fact is that during the month of Ramadhan we were experiencing staff shortage and front desk was handled by new employee. It is not excuse as customer satisfaction is our priority. I'd like to invite you and give us another chance and I can assure you that your experience will be totally opposite to previous one. Again thank you very much, We will look forward to see you again!
