Shirat Hayam, a boutique hotel, is located in front of Lake Kinnert and opposite the breathtaking view of the Golan Heights. This rare building has been totally renovated using basaltic stones with many arched windows typical of the Ottoman style. It was built in 1850 and was enlarged in 1925. The hotel was one of the first hotels in Tiberias and was originally called "Haifa" just like other hotels that were named after cities at that time. In 1946, after the very popular Egyptian singer and actress Umm Kulthum also know as "the Star of the East" stayed at the hotel they changed the hotel's former name to The Star of the East as a token of admiration. After the establishment of the State of Israel, the famous painter, Shimshon Holzman, who was a resident of the hotel, set up a big gallery for visitors. Many artists visited, stayed and painted here. Among them were Nachum Guttman, Reuven Rubin and many more including Holzman. One of the most well known paintings of the hotel was created by Nachum Guttman and is called "The Promenade of Tiberias". The hotel since then has been refurbished keeping the uniqueness of its rooms, suites and balconies, enabling the guests to enjoy the feeling of history in every corner at Shirat Hayam boutique hotel. The hotel has kept its characteristic beauty, creating harmonious combination between ancient and modern, giving a feeling of tranquility at its best. Located in front of the Sea of Galilee, the historic building style with the decorative tiles enforces that feeling. The hotel is situated on the Igal Alon Promenade of Tiberias right in the heart of the open-air museum for sculptures where works of art from the best artists are displayed, Illana Gur's for example. It is becoming a center of art. What is there in the hotel? There are 11 magnificently decorated suites with a view of the Sea of Galilee. The Presidential suite, Balconies and De Lux suites were especially designed and furnished to emphasize the uniqueness of the place and yet are furnished with all modern connivances. All the rooms are equipped with LCD screens and Cable TV. Each of the Presidential Suites and the Balconies Suites has a private balcony facing the lake where the changing colors of the scenery can be seen according to the time of day and season. Most rooms contain Jacuzzi. The Holzman Balcony is located on the rooftop of the hotel and is suitable for sunbathing or relaxation. Gatherings of guests, lectures and professional meetings can be organized with advance notice (up to 80 people). Private dinners or other intimate occasions can be held there, too. The hotel offers a dairy breakfast to both guests and visitors outside the hotel. It also offers a spa for treatment and relaxation. Special spa-deals including a day-room are available. The guests are welcome to relax, enjoy their stay and then leave with a smile and a desire to return.

Detailed Reviews
My wife and I spent two nights at Shirat Hayam as part of a private tour of the northern district. We were is a first floor suite, which had a separate sitting room with a large jacuzzi tub and a private balcony facing the Sea. The hotel is in an old building, and the stone walls inside and out were nice. Our room and the common areas (lobby, patio) were clean and comfortable. The bathroom was quite small and the bedroom barely fit the large bed, but the separate sitting area made up for the smallish bathroom/bedroom.
We had breakfast at the hotel both mornings - the one disappointing aspect of our stay. On the first day the eggs were cold and on the second day, as it was Sabbath, the choices were more limited. Bypassing the cold eggs, there was ample quantity, but it was pricy for what we received.
The location is fantastic - on the boardwalk that runs along the shore. I understand that noise is an issue for some travelers but it did not bother us.

The hotel is perfectly located in front of the lake. The room was simple but clean. If you do not book a room with a balcony you may enjoy a nice terrace with view on the lake. Recommended for a short stay.
Do not forget that in Israel the lodging is costly. This hotel is not an exception.

We stayed in the hotel only for one night. Since we could not simply afford its lovely luxury rooms, and it was already late in the night, they offered us a small room to stay. I undrestand that normally this room is not offered to the clients, but we really appreciated it. It was the cheapest room, in the basement, but very clean and comfortable. Perfect for one night. We still received a 5star luxury treatment, soft towels and wonderfully large breakfast on the terrace with a lake view.
Otherwise, the hotel offers remarkable rooms, all with wonderful views.
Its location is I think the best in the city, just on the promenade, far enough from the huge hotels. Small beach is just in front, which makes it very easy to swim. There are plenty of restaurants and bars around.
Tips: there is free parking very close to the hotel, just as at the reception.

Stayed there for a night with my wife, very cozy room, comfy bed, quite.
We had a suite with a view to the Sea of Galilee (Kineret) - amazing view, amazing sunrise!
Very authentic and well kept, very small (11 rooms/suites) which made it perfect for a romantic gateway!
We got a pretty large breakfast, with plenty of choice.
The stuff we’re very polite and very nice.
The parking lot is walking distance and it is city-owned, thus payable, yet not a problem.
Not suited for children (to my opinion) nor to people with difficulties with stairs (no lift)
Other than that great location!

+1
The hotel is in the style of Scottish castles. Very neat and clean. Rooms are a bit dark, but this adds to the style, and panoramic windows are a nice source of light. Personnel are students - really friendly with good English. Breakfast was splendid.

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It was small and quaint, with attentive staff, a jacuzzi in the room, and a beautiful balcony overlooking the Kineret. The breakfast was ok, nothing special. A bit disappointing - hotel breakfasts in Israel are usually amazing. Overall, excellent but a bit pricey.

Take an upper room to avoid nois as the lobby id very noisy, but there is no elevator. The room I stayed at was very very dirty. no value for the high cost. There is no flexibility in breakfast time starts late at 7:30 and there is no parking which is very problematic.

This was a fantastic place for years to sit and have an early breakfast right by the Sea. The place has obviously switched ownership because hospitality is last on the list. They seemed to cage in the patio with plastic for reasons most tourists would not understand; to much heat too much rain to much wind. All the reasons patio cafe's have indoor seating if the elements are too bad. Coupled with workers and servers that ignore you, I don't know how this place stays open. So sad it was such a quaint place to go.

This is a great bed and breakfast. It is superbly located right on the lake. The staff was friendly and the rooms were well maintained. The property and the architecture are unique; and our boys who are 19 and 21 years thought that this was one of the "coolest" hotel out of the group we stayed at in Israel. Keep in mind that this B&B has only 11 rooms so it doesn't have much in the way of amenities.

This is really a fantastic hotel in the middle of Tiberias. Because it's at the end of the promenade you can fully relax and enjoy the view on the lake. Especially the breakfast is the best we have had in Israel.
