The Hilton Albany garners mixed reactions from guests regarding its convenient location, with the caveat of digital key scanner issues. Service experiences vary widely, with some describing them as professional, while others lament a lack of responsiveness. Room conditions have been a point of contention, with calls for updates and improved maintenance, despite some finding them clean and comfortable. The atmosphere and amenities are perceived as outdated by many guests, although the spaciousness and select features like large TVs are appreciated. Cleanliness generally meets expectations, but some areas are noted to need enhancement. The value proposition of the hotel is questioned, with guests expecting more for the price.

The basics are all present and accounted for. Our room was very spacious and perhaps owing to being on an executive floor and the end room (room numbers ending in 05) it was very quiet. There is a lot of furniture in the room including a comfy chair with ottoman, dresser drawers and an island cabinet near the bathroom which houses the refrigerator and provides a counter space for the coffee maker and a handy place to set bathroom stuff out of the way. The TV was large, 4K and had easily accessed and easy to switch to HDMI inputs so I could use my laptop to watch a movie from. There don't seem to be ANY hotel services available on the TV though, not even a channel guide.

The challenges with this property are mostly related to it being in downtown Albany and the hotel's age. This just isn't a swinging hot-spot and I imagine occupancy rates, especially on weekends, are not great. The on-site restaurant is breakfast only (and buffet only at that) on weekends but you can order food from the bar. The Honors lounge is also not serving food on weekends. I'd say the hotel is aging gracefully overall and, during our visit, all 4 elevators and the A/C etc are all working flawlessly but clearly from other reviews, this varies from time to time. There is some obvious wear on the wooden pieces in our room and a few dings here and there but I don't personally find it objectionable. Housekeeping came every day of our stay, albeit very late in the day sometimes.

The parking garage is probably not Hilton owned but they should still find a way to lean on whoever does own it. It's disgusting. Filthy, cave like and very uncared for. There is a Toyota Solara which is very clearly abandoned and covered with dust. The stairways are smelly and literally covered in greasy drippings. The parking lines are faded and largely ignored. While the entry and exit gates say they accept digital key, the location of the scanner makes actually using digital key a trying experience at best.

For the price we paid, I think this hotel is reasonable but it's certainly not going to set any standards for a full-service hotel.

Hotel with slightly dated furniture, rooms with creased carpet, slightly retro bathrooms.
As soon as we arrived we had a problem with the toilet not working but after some reporting and a visit from the maintenance man they changed our room.
The hall is very large and you have internal parking with key access.
Breakfast is very tidy but has a very limited selection and you have to order omelettes, scrambled eggs or other items separately...
Overall it's good on average. I didn't see the spa or pool but we didn't have much time as we were just passing through.
Quality ratio at just sufficient

Stayed here for one night for business. It is what I would call “typical downtown property”. Tall high rise property with nice lobby. The rooms however, are quite small. The bathrooms are very small with an old style bathtub with curtain. Yuck! One of my bath towels was actually shredded and should not even have been in a customers room. I have stayed at many Hilton and Marriott properties over on Wolf Road off I-87 and I would much prefer returning to that side of Albany versus the very dirty downtown area.

Stayed at this hotel for a dance competition at the Egg 4 years ago and it was horrible because first of all the elevator was broken in garage. Had to bring up several trips thru road to hotel to get to room. It took forever. Then walls were so bad we heard inappropriate things loudly with our young teen in room. It also is a long walk to the Egg with a dance bag etc... There really were not any better options though with hotels in that area. I hope I never have to stay there again. Hilton is so over rated. I had a better/cleaner room at the Red Roof Inn...

I am a Hilton Gold member and have stayed in many Hilton hotels around the world. This hotel is the worst Hilton I have ever stayed in. I had a horrible day here. I will never stay there again.
When we checked in, we felt very hot when we entered the 15th floor where our room was located. As soon as we got out of the elevator, we saw that the ceiling was broken and there were many ceiling debris on the ground. When we checked in to the room, the ceiling inside also looked like a warehouse ceiling, which was very shoddy. This is not Hilton's standard at all.
Then we felt that our room and the hotel business lounge were very hot, and we could only stay in the lobby on the first floor. We found the front desk and asked to repair the air conditioner in our room. The front desk said that the engineer would repair it immediately. At this time, the front desk staff I met said that they could help me change a room. I hope to repair it first and then see if I need to change the room.
As a result, I went upstairs again at more than ten o'clock in the evening to ask my son who had been working in the room. He said that no one had come to repair the air conditioner. At this time, I called the front desk again, and the other party said that there was no room to change to us, and said again that an engineer would be sent to repair it immediately.
Twenty minutes later, someone knocked on the door and sent a fan, saying that he was a cleaner and didn't care about repairs. I had to call the front desk again to ask for the air conditioner to be repaired. Ten minutes later, the engineer came and told us directly that there was a problem with the construction of the house. The fan was too close to the window, so he "couldn't do magic" to fix the air conditioner, and then he left.
During the communication with the front desk, the other party kept saying that the manager would talk to me. I said that I only asked to fix the air conditioner or change the room. As a result, the manager's phone never came, and we stayed in a very hot room for one night.
This is really infuriating. This room with an air conditioner that doesn't work is charged at the original price and forced to stay. What kind of Hilton is this? Moreover, the cleaning work in the room was also poor, and there were some long and short hairs left in the bathtub. The house exuded a urine smell, and all the facilities were very old, not as good as a three-star hotel.
Shocked.
The management of this hotel is a mess. I heard that many floors had no air conditioning on the day we checked in. I don't know if this is a coincidence or it has always been like this. There is no explanation and no remedy. This hotel management with no system should be fired!
This hotel does not deserve the name Hilton!

I stayed at the hotel from February 9 to February 11, and had maybe one of the worst experiences I have ever had in a hotel. I was checked into room 1329, and as soon as I got to the room, I realized that the temperature was unbearably hot. When I went to the thermostat, I saw that it was set at 85° and the temperature in the room was 84°. I immediately turned it to cool and pushed the temperature down to 68° only to find that the temperature would not come down. When told the front desk, about it, I was told that an engineer would check while I was out at dinner and adjust the temperature. When I got back to the room, the temperature had only come down to 76°, and when the engineer came up again, he told me that there was no way to switch from heating to cooling and the only way to cool the room down was to open the window. As a result, I slept with the window open for the entire night and listened to the street noise below. When I woke up in the morning, the temperature had only come down to 74° so I spoke to a manager and told him what had happened the night before. He promised to speak to engineering and resolve the issue in the room. When I got back to the room in the afternoon, the temperature was still 74°, the window was still open and nothing had been done to cool the room down. I went back to the desk in the evening, and for the first time was told that the rooms at the top of the hotel got very hot and there was nothing that could be done to cool it down. So, 24 hours later, the manager on duty that evening, suggested that I change rooms and promised that while I was at dinner, they would identify a different room for me. When I returned, I was told that room 829 was available and that the only option was for me to switch rooms. Having no other option, I packed my things and moved to room 829. While the temperature was moderately (still 70) better, the room should never have been placed into service. There was a giant hairball on the floor next to the bed, the phone looked like it was from the 1970s and did not work, the picture above the desk was falling out of its frame, and multiple lights in the room were blown out and would not turn on. Because I had an early court appearance, changing rooms again was not an option. I cannot begin to express how frustrated I am both by the rooms and the fact that the staff apparently know that there is an issue on the higher floors and rather than immediately suggesting that I move, pretended that they would be able to resolve the issue. Insult to injury, i woke up to NO hot water in the morning. To compound it, I emailed the hotel twice after my stay and no one even responded. Apparently they thought dumping points in my account was a substitute for an actual response. It’s not and I am Diamond - imagine how they would treat someone without status🤦‍♀️

This hotel is in need of a makeover. Lobby furniture is dirty. Rooms are not up to other Hiltons. There were stains on the bedding, floor and room furniture. In the bathroom, the toilet tank was badly cracked and the shower head was much to low and the water pressure was terrible.
Additionally, for the price of a room, continental breakfast should be included (it was $25.00 per person). At the very least, coffee should have been complimentary.

While I typically choose to stay at Hilton properties, it was our events manager who selected the Albany Hilton for a recent business trip. The card key for my top-floor room didn't work, so I hauled back down from Floor 15 to the lobby and got a remake. After accessing the room, I found the cold water faucet in the bathroom sink produced only a dribble of pressure. I could live with it. Returning to my room after dinner, I found a large puddle in the entryway and bathroom. Front desk said they would send an engineer, but called back to say they would change my room instead. The employee who brought new card keys and accompanied me to the new room was apologetic and helpful and speculated that the roof was leaking because of the rain, perhaps evidenced by a wastebasket of water near the elevators. The cold water faucet in the bathroom sink in the new room was fine, but in the new room it was the hot water faucet instead that produced very weak pressure. Fortunately the shower was fine. But the room thermostat insisted on sticking with a not quite so balmy 66F degrees and blew a cold wind throughout despite attempts at remedy. (A colleague reported taking blankets and a duvet from the second bed in her own room and adding to her first bed to try to keep warm. I slept in a shirt and sweatshirt myself.) In fact the entire hotel was cold and windy: lobby, meeting rooms, banquet hall. The toilet in the new room required multiple flushes to empty. The front desk said they would send an engineer, but I never saw evidence that one had been present. I left with a head cold but fortunately negative covid so far. I have never before that I can recall given a one-star rating to any upscale property.

My wife and I were traveling north to Maine as a vacation, this was a one-night stop and thought we would explore Albany on Monday, June 3, 2024. This is a large hotel, checking in was a little disorganized and 3 different people were trying to help us check in. The price was higher than average with extra for parking, no breakfast included. Parking is not connected to the hotel and costs $25/night We received a room on the 9th floor so had a view of downtown and the river. The room was not made up correctly, there was a coffee machine but no coffee and no cups. The room was okay, but the AC was pretty noisy. Overall, a bit overpriced for what was received. Downtown here is not very lively, in fact quite dead as most people downtown work at the capitol or other government buildings.

My email to the hotel....

I explained to the gentleman over the phone that I had my 8 year old son with me, and from the moment we got into town we were on a time crunch. As you may or may not know, traveling with a child makes it less convenient to have to deal with a horrible room experience. When we got back to the hotel at 11pm after the concert we attended, there was a line at the front desk, and my son was falling asleep standing up.
I was not going to keep him up any longer to switch rooms, and I made the choice to just go to sleep and not make a stink. As we were leaving Saturday morning, again there was a long line that I did not have time to stand in to complain about the numerous concerns I had.
The room smelled of urine, the carpet was sticky and gross, one of the beds looked and smelled as if it was never changed, the refrigerator smelled of old rotten food, the water in the shower did not drain, and the temperature never went above 66. I turned the air to 72. I turned the heat to 72. I turned it all completely off.....always 66 and freezing.

I have never complained about a hotel stay, and it takes a lot for me to do so. Should I have called the front desk Friday night, yes. Unfortunately, I chose not to deal with the situation at the time, but I decided I couldn't just let it go . Hilton is supposed to be top notch, but we experienced quite the opposite.

I appreciate anything you can do, other than "points", which I will not use since we do not travel much. Otherwise, I will simply choose a different establishment the next time we have the chance to travel.

Their response....

Unfortunately, as you did not afford us the opportunity to fix your issues while on property I am unable to offer you a refund.

I do sincerely apologize your room was not up to our normal standards, but without giving us the opportunity to make it right, I cannot now offer a refund when we were never given the opportunity to correct your issues.

I am again sorry for the negative experience, if you travel through Albany again please do reach out to me directly as I would be happy to offer you an upgrade if available as well as complimentary breakfast and parking.

Not very understanding or Hospitable! Next time I will be sure to complain directly to the front desk for each and every inconvenience that should never arise in the first place!
