I was pleasantly comfortable. Check in was very simple as well as check out. It’s a central location to everything around the place. My son and I really enjoyed it. Beds we’re comfortable. Bathroom was clean. The room was roomy and simple. Couldn’t have asked for anything better! Especially coming from the state.

We came by bus 600 from the airport. Ticket is 5500/adult + 2800/child. Almost One hr drive. Got off at New Kyungnam Hotel, bus stop right after World Cup Stadium. Go across a small road and arrive at 14 Joongang Ro, Ocean palace hotel. We booked family suite, very good view towards Cheongjiyeon Waterfall and port (10mins walking distance and good for a after dinner walk). Very handy that a Convenient store called 711 and a coffee shop is at ground floor. Travel to Jungmum park can take bus 600, to Mt. Hallasan we took taxi with taxi fare around 20K to Yeongsil Route (the shortest hiking route) and back by bus 740 then 100 then 600 back to hotel; To Saryeoni Forest Path and Eco land we went by taxi with fare of 30K and back by bus 730. It was worth mentioning that the front office manager called Leo, was extremely nice and helpful. Helped my family to plan for a few days trip, even offered his mobile number in case there s an emergency. He also recommended a restaurant, which local people always go, to eat the famous black pig (it was super yummy as well). It is overall a very pleasant and relaxing stay here.

The photos must be completely staged and photoshopped.
The place is super dingy and dark and dated. Toiletries like disposable toothbrushes need to be purchased and aren’t included like they normally would be. The state of the room made me wonder if it was even cleaned before we checked in. The room was unclean: mold looking stain on the curtains, spots all over the mirrors and glass, walls have stains and mysterious dark spots, heating panel is falling off of the wall, furniture (chairs) were pretty much falling apart. One of our lights weren’t working. The shower room looks so gross that we don’t even want to use it.. Even after notifying the front desk, who were apologetic, we get back hours later to a changed bulb and emptied garbage and not much else. Mirrors and glass weren’t cleaned like we requested, curtains with dark mold looking marks weren’t changed, and our floors are still dusty. To say I’m disappointed is an understatement.

This is by far the most dirty hotel I ever saw. And they claim to be a 4 star! I stayed for 1 hour and checked out. I didn't want to touch anything. It was disgusting and most of the furniture was broken. Worst maintenance. There was hair and handprints from other people everywhere. Right outside the window was a pigeon family living. Don't waste your money.

Guided by reviews and photos of gorgeous rooms, I had booked Ocean Palace Jeju for myself and my girlfriends on a long awaited trip to Jeju. Here's the great stuff (labelled L1 to L4) about this hotel, well deserving 4 to 5 star ratings:
L1. Loved the rooms
The photos are real. The space, the decor of the European and Oriental style rooms are as they appear in the hotel site.
L2. Booked early is value for money
we booked 6 months in advance and got approximately 750sqft of space for less than 100USD per room per night.
L3. Great location
Near town, near shops, near restaurants. very short walking distance to Cheonjjiyeon Falls and literally a few blocks from the middle of Olle Trail 6.
L4. Prompt housekeeping service
Short of slippers? or a towel? or the plumbing doesn't work? We called and always (we called at least 4 times during our stay) we got the missing articles or an engineer within 5 minutes.
But all this cannot compensate for the terrible staff attitude at the hotel reception. Here's the terrible stuff I hated labelled H1 to H4.
H1. Not honouring promises
I had written to the hotel in Korean and received replies in Korean where I was promised my 2 booked rooms would be arranged on the same floor. While checking in, the female receptionist at first pointedly ignored my printed copy of the email stating we would be placed on the same floor. When I asked repeatedly, I was told in chinese that they will only put us on separate floors and the email was useless. Exhausted from travelling we went to our rooms on separate floors. There was no explanation, no apology.
I had requested in person at the reception the night before for assistance to book taxis, and left instructions that they should let us know early if they cannot book taxis. When we checked out, then we found out our taxis were not booked. Again, there was no explanation, no apology. Given we suspected we would be sabotaged again, since it was the end of our stay, we saved ourselves by having planned to check out early with ample time to get to the hotel on hastily booked taxis.
H2. Condescending attitude
It's not just me, all 5 of us had the distinct misfortune of dealing with 5 separate staff at reception across the stay. We were guests but the staff made sure we were aware that we did not deserve to be served, through their tone, word choices, body language and thinly veiled facial expressions of irritation and contempt when we approached the reception desk for help.
I had called the hotel before our stay with some queries. The phone was slammed down on me. Mistakenly assuming they did not understand my English, I had enlisted the help of my Korean language teacher to write various emails in Korean to get the replies in Korean.
In the course of our stay, we realised they speak impeccable English and impeccable Chinese. Depending on their mood they would insist on their language choice for communication, not depending on our comfort. A female receptionist had insisted on speaking in Chinese at check-in, to the point, I had thought she did not, could not speak English. Only to be surprised on a separate occasion by her fluent articulate English.
H3. Unhelpful to the extent I suspect maliciousness
I was careless enough to leave a walking stick in a taxi the hotel staff helped us book. I asked the hotel staff for assistance to the taxi company's lost-and-found. The staff attempted to lure us on a wild-goose chase around town by telling us to go City Hall by intermittently not understanding English and then when forced, speaking in fluent English again, admitting that the lost item was not at City Hall. He could have done any of the following
- explained there is no lost and found. - told us the cab company did not have the item - hinted it might be a lost cause but offer to give us the address to city hall after warning us the item might never be recovered But he told us to go to City Hall to retrieve the walking stick, knowing full well it would be futile. Extracting the reality took us 20 minutes. By the end, it was clear given his fluent English that he had tried to hide behind misleading words as if he had bad English, so that we could go waste a few hours on a wild-goose chase instead of being the hotel.
H4. Zero service recovery
This is my 7th trip to Korea. The service has always been great, and often from the heart. The staff at Ocean Palace have effectively negated all the positivity from this and all previous trips for me. They make no attempt to make things right, there is no apology, no explanation for things done wrong.
They placed one of our rooms directly across from a construction site. The apathy when we mentioned the noise was shocking. We had to insist on a room change whereupon my girlfriend was forced to make multiple trips up and down as they offered more rooms facing the construction site or at a lowered level of quality of room that we had booked. We are all seasoned travellers and I dare say any other hotel anywhere would have apologised for possible noise at check-in and offered mitigating services.
In conclusion, I would advise any potential travellers to beware the systemic issues at reception and book at your own risk. This is a great hotel if not for the staff and since it is not one single individual but what is starting to look like corporate culture, I feel bad for the hotel owners.
I will go back Jeju again and will stay somewhere else

Our group chose Ocean Palace because of its large rooms and its location. We stayed in the oriental room which had a double and a single bed in Oct 2017. The rooms were spacious and had rather quaint doors that emit a continuous beeping sound every time they are opened, similar to that of fridge doors left open too long. The sound was quite loud and piercing, ensuring that we rushed to close the doors so as not to disturb the neighbours.
The main problem for our stay was that the reception staff on in the evenings are quite unhelpful and rather rude. They kept insisting on speaking mandarin when we spoke to them in English. The few times they could speak English, the request did not materialise. They confirmed booking an advanced taxi transfer for the next day which did not materialise the next day. The booking was not found. A tip for the taxi reservation: if you don't want to be stranded with no taxi booking please ensure that the hotel staff write down on a piece of paper the taxi number assigned to you. They would also ignore printed email correspondence confirming rooms on the same floor and gave rooms as far apart as possible. (6 floors apart in separate wings). Any query in English would be met by the lady receptionist who would reply everything in mandarin. Obviously we gave up and took which ever rooms were assigned. A friend of mine lost her walking stick in a taxi and went to reception for help, the man manning the counter in the evening told her to go to city hall but refused to clarify whether the stick was found. Only after using google translate which helped us speak Korean did he finally reply in English that we had to go there to get the driver's hand phone number. This was despite that fact we already had the taxi license plate number.
I was also surprised as I was leaving the breakfast restaurant to see the staff switch off all the lights in the restaurant leaving unsuspecting guests still eating at 930am, the official time breakfast ended, without any grace period to finish up their breakfast.
I would describe the stay in this hotel as quaint. The rooms were spacious but some of the staff alone would mar the otherwise enjoyable stay.

Our party of 5 booked this hotel because of its high ratings and positive reviews. I am sorry to say that we were sorely disappointed. To be fair, there were many good things about this hotel, including the following: - very spacious room - convenient location, easy access to restaurants, Seogwipo Olle market, shops - cleanliness - shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, towels replenished daily - there was a washing machine - the ground floor had a convenience store.
However, what caused considerable distress to my party was the disinterested and apathetic reception staff who went out of their way NOT to be helpful towards us. We should have been forewarned when my friend called the hotel to make some enquiries only to have the reception staff put the phone down on her abruptly once they heard her speak in English.
When we arrived at the hotel, we were greeted by an aloof lady at the check in who flatly stonewalled our request for rooms on the same floor, even though this request was stated clearly on the print out for our reservation. She insisted on speaking Mandarin to us when we spoke to her in English. We gave her the benefit of the doubt thinking that she lacked fluency in English. To our amazement, when we spoke to her again on a subsequent day, she suddenly developed the ability to articulate perfect English.
The next day, my friend who was in a separate room, requested for a change of room because construction was taking place in front of her room and made for a sleepless night. Although she made clear her request for a room equivalent in size and amenities to the one she currently occupied, she was sent on a wild goose chase from room to room, as the staff gave her one room after another that lacked the necessary capacity and requirements that we should have been given.
Finally, the night before our departure, we requested assistance from the reception to book taxis for our trip to the airport. Communicating smoothly in English this time, the receptionist assured us that it would be done. The next morning, we arrived to find that the taxis were not booked. It was with flurried haste that we managed to arrange transportation in time for our flight.
While overall we enjoyed our time in Jeju, the appalling service and inhospitable and inimical attitude of the staff left a bad taste and we will certainly not be back.

What turned out to be a great location and a hotel with above average accolades ended up being marred by staff indifference, miscommunication and a lack of transparency. At no time was an apology extended. You get the feel that the staff are just going through the motions on a job they have to keep with no sense of ownership or accountability. I came away from Jeju in despair that the staff in this hotel badly needed the holiday instead ; a study in human psych that staff morale can ruin the best laid business strategies.
We arrived at night and two of us were assigned Room 216, modernly furnished with red egg chairs, a convenient dining table good for 6 and a double bed all with minimalist white backdrop. There were tiny alarm bells - dust on the surfaces , 2 miserable towels , 3 hangers and layers of grime on the large window panes.
No thought has been given to ensure that guests settle quickly in comfort. With no English instructions on the heating or cooling systems, we ended up switching on the heaters for some time before realising that there was a nondescript air conditioner cooler remote tucked next to the TV remote! Plus point was we had some jimjilbang type room sauna at 35 degree Celsius before we wised up. I would not put it past my oversight as it turned out that 2 other rooms in our party experienced the same plight - with one suffering heat over the entire first night.
By 7 am, there was a beeping beyond the windows. One that went on incessantly at 3 Sec intervals - the vacuous sound irritant that likely can arm wrestle my trusty Casio alarm clock back home.
Putting it off as a garbage truck reversing out of an alley , I then realised to my horror that the room faced directly into an enormous construction site. It was right next to the window and you could see into the foundation piling some depth into the ground. Now this is how they build foundations on Jeju soil conditions ! All through morning and day ( when returning in afternoons) there were safety trumpet beeps emitting from the construction site. There is a bar/pub across the street adjacent to the site and the drunk patrons will converse loudly into the night after the construction site stops work.
We asked for a room change given we would be looking forward to 2-3 more nights of noise and dust pollution. In most places, they will move the luggage for you once new rooms are ready. Here, they expect you to perform check out at the counter and then check back into the room. It could be that staff training required a complete cycle of check in and out thus, nothing was accepted out of norm ?
At no time was an apology extended or an expression that inconvenience was empathised.
The alternative room turned out half the size and with no chairs or dining table when we returned in late afternoon . I asked to see available rooms after I explained we wanted to have the dining table and chairs as per old room. This was because the travel party will congregate in the room to discuss plans for the next day. The male receptionist refused citing that it was not possible to see the rooms first. They then gave me another room on the second floor which turned out to be right above the entrance where people alight , enter and depart from the hotel. I then went back to the receptionist the fourth time. They then claimed I had to pay an extra KRW12k per night to be allocated a room with a dining table. Seeing that it was my fourth trek to the reception counter, I then agreed to pay. Receptionist insisted I pay upfront and I was happy to do so if it could resolve the situation and put us all out of our misery. The fourth room turned out to be again half the size of our original room and with a small little table one third the size of the original one. The hotel was not at full occupancy so it dawned on me that it could have been that our initial room was booked early and now the hotel wanted to apply the latest rates and extract their pound of flesh when the guest is captive.
I then insisted that they gave the original sizes based on the capacity and size we had contracted on. Receptionist then claimed we had to take the original room 216 with no mention of the extra dough they had made me fork out half an hour earlier!
I asked that they refund my 12k per night - 24k KRW in total. It was not so much the money but the principle that we should uphold especially when Ocean Palace is trying to take advantage of their guests !
If Ocean Palace had been unhappy about the early bird rates, then they should have not offered it. If they wanted to, then they should have applied business fair practices to be upfront that these rooms were next to an active construction site !! This is about good business ethics and being transparent so your guests can make informed choices !
Bear in mind it was only after the fifth round trips between rooms and the hotel reception that the staff capitulated and showed me the fourth room; when he claimed initially that they could not show the room to guests prior to assigning the rooms!
I get the feel it was a matter of whether they could wear a guest out by stonewalling them. If they thought they would succeed, they likely realised that it would be harder once they insisted we paid up extra.
Staff training is sorely lacking without staff having to appreciate client experiences. For example, Housekeeping left newly checked in guests with a sink filled with dirty water ... with sinkstop plugged in. The only way to get it off was to reach out into the dirty who- knows-what water to release the plunger ! When we called for hangers and asked for 5 extra hangers , the receptionist curtly said ,” No, four for you !”. They spoke perfect English but insisted on speaking Mandarin even though we asked that they communicate in English so that all in travel party could understand them.
Location was fine - turn left and 5 mins walk to the Art Street ; turn right and 10 mins walk to the local town centre. Hotel is by the main road with 7/11 in-house and another convenience store (cheaper for all items) across the street.
Will not stay here again unless I want to be fleeced and frustrated by their staff indifference.

I stayed at the Ocean Palace Hotel for 3 nights and the reviews that come before mine are pretty much true.
The hotel is reasonably easy to access by the airport bus (#600 @ KRW 5,500, alight at the last stop, cross the road and head into the little alleyway, the hotel is a short 4-5 mins walk away). I'm guessing that Ocean Palace is relatively larger than other hotels in Seogwipo as the only larger resorts/hotels I saw along the way were clustered towards the west side nearer to the stadium and convention center. This also means that Ocean Palace is selected by tour groups which means that you'll encounter big surges in guest activity levels when checking-in and checking-out.
I booked a family room for 3 and we were quite frankly, delighted with the large room. It felt rather much like we had booked an open plan service apartment! There is a refrigerator and washing machine, but no microwave. The small sitting area in front of the television was a good place to chill-out at and the in-room wifi was decent. The beds can be rather hard as some reviewers have commented but overall the room is clean and nice - it's not luxury quarters and can feel a bit clinical with all that white used in the interior design. We had room 824 which had an unobstructed view of Seogwipo Port.
Ocean Palace is also quite conveniently located as it's within walking distance to the Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market and a main street with lots of small shops. We found ourselves at the nearby lanes for dinner every night but it is mostly local food. There is a bigger mart there as well, and between there and the convenience store on the ground floor of Ocean Palace, we had breakfast sorted out daily too.
Generally I enjoyed my stay at Ocean Palace (just don't expect a luxury hotel), and would return if I could find a similar bargain on room rates - the price that I paid per night from a hotel booking site was deeply discounted by 65% compared to their listed rack room rate and very, very reasonable.
Traveler's tip: If returning to the airport by airport bus, don't go back to the stop where you alighted - the return trip bus stop is on the opposite side of the road, some distance down a slight slope.

Check-in time starts from 3 pm. We booked the triple bed as well. They provided us with a double bed and 2 single beds. Free parking is available. We rented a car so this is really useful! If you are planning to wash your clothes there, you can get the room service to send you a hanging rack for your washed clothes as they do not have dryer in the room. There is one coin laundry shop nearby though.. about 5-10 mins walk.

Driving is pretty easy with the use of the navigation system included with our rental car.
You do need to get to use left hand driving and driving on different side of the road though as Singapore though.
I don’t remember, but I didn’t pay that much. Maybe around 60 000 Won. It was a normal taxi from the airport. But, you should ask the taxi driver if they accept card first (most of them do, but I was unlucky with one driver and didn’t have cash with me).
The bus from airport was around 3 600 WON.
So it’s a huge difference in price :)
There are more places to choose from in the Seogwipo area.
