Our family trip to Ambalama Villa was SUCH a wonderful experience , our 3 children (ages 7, 7 & 9) spent hours in the pool and had the BEST holiday. The staff took such good care of our every need, and having a private chef on the property was INCREDIBLE! We ate so well , and the kids loved asking for fresh juices all day long. The villa is well situated near all shopping and just down the beach is a fun beach side restaurant with drinks for the adults and the beach for the kids. At the villa we highly recommend the cocktails & the snapper ceviche , and while the kids wanted a more traditional breakfast, hubby and I sampled the Sri Lankan breakfast egg hoppers and they were divine. We will absolutely be back for another relaxing holiday, highly recommend Ambalama Villa!

Stayed here with family and friends in January 2023 for 7 nights to celebrate a wedding so we had the entire place. Beautiful Villa with stunning pool and outdoor area. We had a family room which had a large bathroom with outdoor shower and large wardrobe area. We had a day bed and an extra bed put in for both kids. Double glass doors with wooden shutters open onto the garden and provide sea views, stunning. The living area consisted of a large seating area with sofas and chairs and large table and then there is a large dining table too, as well as a huge table and chairs for outside dining and a bbq at request. There’s also a separate toilet so you don’t have to go back to your room. Sun loungers and pool towels are provided too. The staff are just amazing! They’re always ready to wait on you and are so friendly but they’re never in your way making things uncomfortable. They can’t do enough for you. There is an amazing chef who will make anything requested (with prior knowledge as produce is bought fresh- we just gave them a kitty and they bought what was required). They are also there to clean and will provide drinks etc as requested. There is a member of staff present through the night too who will patrol and lock the place up. We had a wedding reception here which was just stunning and the sunsets are beautiful. The beach directly outside isn’t advisable for swimming as it’s quite rough but you can walk a few hundred meters down the beach to a much calmer cove where turtles are regularly found. There’s also an amazing bar that provides great food here just on the beach and is perfect to watch the sun go down. Unawatuna is a tuk tuk ride away and costs just 1000 rupees (approx £2!)! Here you’ll find shops, bars, restaurants, cafes, banks etc etc. You don’t get hassled either so all very relaxed. We all loved our stay here and are planning a reunion in the future.

We are on our last day in ambalama. A beautiful part of sri lanka with lovely beach. We even got to swim in the local beach with the turtles. The villa is really nice and the staff are exceptionally good. The food Roshan makes is perfect for every occasion and guyan, dilip, dalshan and tilik are so helpful and are always on hand. I will really miss this place and wish ambalama and all the staff lots of best wishes for the future.

This was our 2nd time at Ambalama. Easily one of the best Villas we‘ve stayed at down south. The property is lovely and well maintained through the years. The highlight of our stay though every time is the food and the wonderful staff. The food is just fabulous and 100% every time. The staff are so welcoming and obliging but never intrusive. There is absolutely no way to fault this place. Chris the host has been extremely gracious and so easy to work with too. Can’t wait to return.

After a couple of years of not travelling we were delighted to arrive in Sri Lanka and what a wonderful Villa to be based in. The Villa is beautiful, open plan living with a fantastic pool and gardens. The staff at the Villa are exceptional and made us feel very welcome. They were also all excellent with our young children and always there to lend a hand ! The Villa is perfectly located for VY beach and also Angel beach club which is newly opened. We were very happy to relax at the villa and given the age of the children didnt take of advantage of all the possible day trips, but with Galle only 20mins away we spent a morning and evening there which was lovely. A great and very relaxing holiday - we will be back !

We had an extremely relaxing three days at villa Ambalama with our family. The views of the beautiful Indian Ocean with most amazing sunset in the middle of the cool breeze was unimaginable. There was a beautiful infinity pool within a spacious garden directly facing the beach, which provided ample outdoor space for relaxation. It was wonderful starting every morning with a warm cup of Sri Lankan tea attentively served by the staff, all while being surrounded by sound of breaking of waves and the gentle, fresh sea breeze. The villa itself, with high ceilings and tastefully chosen furniture surrounded by rustic architecture, was also truly matching with the concept of an “Ambalama”. Chef Roshan did wonders with his culinary skills. He offered us a wide variety of Sri Lankan as well as high quality eastern and western menus throughout our stay. Although we initially planned to have some meals at outdoor restaurants, the quality and variety of the food provided at the villa completely changed our minds on that front! A special mention should also be made regarding the house keeping team led by Gayan, and also composed of Dilshan and Dileepa. They made our stay truly special. Every request was promptly attended to, with the rooms being prepared for us every evening. The attention to detail by the house keeping team was outstanding - each evening meal came with its own table decor, utilising the beautiful flowers from the surrounding gardens. Overall our stay at Ambalama was everything we could have hoped for. We left feeling rejuvenated and grateful for the time we were able to spend there and we could not recommend this place more!

Just had the most amazing 4 nights at Ambalama. The place is just gorgeous (although some areas look a bit tired).. and very comfortable. The staff are some the most hospitable I’ve ever come across in Sri Lanka - the chef Roshan’s food was delicious and we were so well looked after by Gayan, dilshan, Dileepa and watchman Thilak. We will most definitely be back again!

We chose Ambalama for the location of our wedding and were blown away by its beauty when we finally arrived. The location is idillic with views of the ocean and beach along with the beautiful grounds themselves. The staff were outstanding and were happy to assist with any issue big or small and the food prepared was fantastic. I hope to return again at some point in the future.

Location of the place was at perfect proximity from most of the pubs and experiences we needed. The villa it self is very basic and authentically beautiful with a wide beach view that relaxes your eyes. The staff are very attentive to your needs and the chef's food is good. Make sure you ask Roshan for his chocolate cake.

Returning for a second visit, the villa is just how I remembered it from 5 years ago. Well maintained, very comfortable and picturesque as ever. The ocean swells and strong breeze this time of year kept us away from seaside frolicking, but the infinity pool was the perfect alternative. Chef Roshan’s skills in cooking, baking and grilling anything to perfection meant that we didn’t want to eat anywhere else. From Sri lankan to Western to Chinese cuisine, he puts his heart in his cooking, and the results are delectable. Each one on the staff team did his part to ensure we were well looked after. It is truly an idyllic location and so well fitted and staffed that Ambalama is a truly a home away from home!
