Uh..so remember all that Colonial stuff that went on years back, English wealth in rare and outstanding new colonies.. Well this Hotel is a taste of the extremes of English pomp and display in the heart of the lands that made so many Englishmen wealth. Just to step inside the lobby or use the lobby washrooms is a highlight! Inside...

We stayed in this gorgeously stylish hotel for three nights as part of Aman's Fort & Beach package, combining stays at Amangalla and Amanwella, its sister hotel down the coast. It's very well appointed indeed, and has been sympathetically restored (it was previously the New Oriental Hotel), with nice references throughout the building to its history through colonial times up...

Fortunately Aman kept the style and atmosphere of this old colonial hotel, despite creating modern luxury and comfort in its rooms and bathrooms. We were lucky to be in what is probably their best suite (No. 8 on the top floor), with a huge corner sitting room, wonderful four poster bed and spacious bathroom. Someone clearly thought about the details,...

We were offered a room for 490 $ by telephonic conversation. Since a reply to my mail asking for confirmations dint arrive I called back only to find out that they cannot confirm the room and it costs 900$. Apparently it was a srilankan rate for the locals. Fair enough but the whole way it was managed was very unprofesional....

We dropped in for some teatime, as it is a very expensive hotel we were expecting a nice service. As we were seated on a dirty table, we selected some tea, the service didnt understand a word of english so we couldnt ask for some chai tea, we ordered some herbal tea. A minute later another waiter came to tell...

The main building is from the colonial times. It has an exceptional charm with the great entrance hall and the outside veranda. We loved simply to sit on the veranda and enjoy the life on the street. It's – at least in the old building – not a typical Aman layout of the rooms or suites. We had a corner...

The Amangalla is an absolutely beautiful historic hotel in the Galle Fort area. The rooms have been restored to an amazing level. The whole hotel is like stepping back in time with modern amenities! That said, beware of rooms on the second floor (01-05), as you will have guests above on the third floor. Sadly, we had an extremely noisy...

This was the first time that we stayed at an Aman and - of course - expectations were high. The hotel is located in a beautiful old colonial building and the decoration from the common areas to the rooms is absolutely perfect for the setting. The atmosphere is great. We got a beautiful large room with a great balcony. The...

Another great Aman - we spent 3 nights here before moving on the sister hotel Amanwella. Everything was great from the airport transfer, the the gorgeous room, fantastic service and great facilities. The yoga and spa were fantastic. The daily afternoon tea is a nice touch and eating on the terrace watching life go by on the fort is lovely....

This beautiful Historic hotel is set just inside the Fort Gate and easy walking distance to the lovely shops of Galle. We think we had the best room in the hotel #31 which was just outside the swimming pool. Also there were tables & chairs set up for dining and we had breakfast & lunch overlooking the pool. There are...
