My first visit to thailand and deffinatley not my last. I was recommended by a friend to stay at artha's hotel when i go to phuket.
When we first arrived we was greated by the Famous mally and his wonderful wife who showed us to our rooms and gave us all information about tours, nightlife ect.
We was interested in seeing an ophanage and mally got straight onto it and organised us going to Phuket sunshine village foundation. It was a great experience tosee and know that this foundation had supported these children in need emotionally and financially. We really appriecated the time mally took to sort out going to the orphanage and organising day trips out.
This hotel exceeded all our expectations. The hotel is a 10 minute walk from the beach, the rooms are large and spacious, which are cleaned every day at 5pm so you know that you are deffinatley not going to be disturded after a good night out. Mally and his family are great and the place has a homely atmospher.
This is deffinately a place that i will return as the people are friendly, laid back and give great service.

I started off booking at a large hotel from the internet. I was very lucky to have stopped by Malley's Bar! I made sure to change my reservation for Artha asap, and will definitely make it my hotel of choice when I return! Great people at Malley's Bar nightly and great room , in a very good location, nice large king sized bed, nice balcony, with very cold air conditioning in the room.
Cant wait to visit again! Save your money and stay at Artha a better location , better deal, and the best people!

This hotel, not a bed and breakfast as listed here, is not that well known among locals because of its relative newness. The place itself is ok - the decor is sparse but tasteful. There's loud nightlife across the street that I thought would keep me awake but oddly enough it didn't bother me. Location-wise, it is 15 minutes from the beach and also 15 minutes to the main strip.

However where it shines is the wonderful, wonderful service by the host, Mally. (I met his wife only briefly as she literally just had a baby boy during the time I was there.) I've never had a host as accommodating and sweet as he was. He asked me what my plans were as soon as I was settled in. He got brochures to help plan my stay and even bargained for me! Eventually, I got into the habit of looking forward to a quick hi or chat at the day's end. His guests were also very nice and I don't think it was a coincidence. The man has a knack for making his guests feel very welcome and at home.

One tip though: I had a rough time making a reservation. On the hotel's site, there's an email address which I used to ask questions and book a reservation. He received none of those. There's a form on the site which was the only way I could communicate with electronically. Lucky for me, I called to confirm my reservation. Even though at the end of my stay, Mally did manage to receive emails again, I suggest travelers call ahead just to confirm.

This place was highlight of my stay in Phuket and Thailand and I definitely recommend it!!

Even before I came to Phuket, the owner, Mally, has been truly a lifesaver and has been extremely warm and accommodating. From arranging airport transfers, tours, to giving a know how of the best places to check out in Patong, Mally, his wonderful wife Ae, and their cute kids shy Violet and cute little Thomas, are the best hosts anyone could ever ask for. To top it off, for a reasonable price, you get a nice spacious room, big comfy bed, nice balcony, excellent wifi, and a working A/C. And everything is pretty much accessible. This place deserves to be in the number 1 spot, no doubt about that.

Thanks Mally, Ae, Violet, and Thomas for letting me have the best stay in Patong (and for letting me hang around with you guys at the beach). I will definitely come back! - Kat

We were only staying in Phuket for a couple of nights so were looking for somewhere cheap, but comfortable, and could give advice on trips. We booked the Artha Hotel after looking on Trip Advisor and after staying there feel somewhat duped by previous reviews. On reflection, only amazing/expensive places have really earned five-star reviews for all categories and looking closely at the reviews, we’re unsure how this hotel could have been rated so highly by other guests. The rooms are clean, and big; however it is far from the perfect location. It is on the corner of two very busy roads and opposite a motor bike taxi rank and two noisy open air bars (one plays music from 8pm – 1am and the other takes over until at least 7.30am). I’m sure the hotel would be fine if it had double glazing, but it doesn’t – so don’t expect to hear the TV over the noise or to have a good night’s sleep. We stayed in a room at the front of the hotel so the back rooms might be quieter.

The town is not a quick walk away either, it’s a good 10 minute walk along a busy dusty road with no pavement. I wouldn’t really feel safe walking along here at night. It’s also a 5-10 minute walk to the beach in the other direction from the hotel. The beach is packed full of sunloungers, taxi’s, shops etc, hardly the most chilled out of places but that’s what you expect from Patong Beach. There is no breakfast included, and no restaurants within easy reach of the hotel which was a bit of a pain. Further to this, the reviews mention that the staff were really helpful in finding out information for guests, but there are no leaflets in the lobby, and when we asked about how much the transfers were to other islands and how to arrange them, the staff weren’t sure so we had to go into town to speak to other travel agents (NB: The Lonely Planet states that all guesthouses are able to provide this information as it is such a common request for holiday makers).

In summary, the rooms are big and clean with air con/TV/hot water; however at 800 baht per night you get what you pay for. The location is far from perfect and if you want a good night’s sleep then there are many other options in Patong Beach.

Artha hotel is a must not only if You are a fan of the Manchester United. It is probabile they best choice for a cheap visit to Pukhet. In July You can have a side double room with bathroom and air con and balcony and a safe for just 500 baths, approximately 12,50 euros! Moreover, the owner, Mally, is British, so You will non have all the problems You usually have with Thai staff, that never speaks English well enough. If you support Man Uni, Artha is your place, as it is a kind of Museum of the celebrated English team, with a lot of originally-signed T-shirts and pictures!

We don't usually go out of our way to write a review for some where however this is certainly the best place we have stayed so far.
The location is close enough to everything such as the beach and the bars so that you haven't too far and also feel safe enough at night coming back. You'd be right next to some lovely spots for food as well.
The room was bigger then we expected and everything was very clean. Had the liberty of air con as well which we now see as a huge bonus being elsewhere. In fact we were that comfortable that we went well over the 3 nights we were suppose to stay for.
Mally was a great host!..he did everything he could during our stay from recommendations for food to sorting the ferry out for Phi Phi. We got to enjoy watching the football downstairs, everyone was very welcoming!..overall for the money it is well worth it..unsure of our plans at the moment but if we went back to Phuket we would defiantly be staying here.Had a great time!

Last week I had to be in Patong for a party, and I decided to stay with my wife for one night in a "good guesthouse". I always check Tripadvisor for the best place to go; so I did again.

Upon our arrival, I was really shocked about the condition from the entrance road and the outside state of maintenance of this guesthouse, and our first doubts came up already. It looks like one big contraction side in front of the door!
Once I came inside, this place looks and smells like an old English pub instead of a guesthouse. Nobody was there to welcome us at the front, a friend from the owner showed up, and offer us a free drink.

We went up by staircase and everything looks quite old and badly maintained. When we entered the room, same; looks old, and cheap out date furnished. Our real shock was when we see the bathroom; "I will never shower here" was the only thing my wife could say!!
Finally we went to the party, but we decided already not to stay overnight there.... Lucky a friend who stays in Patong offered us a bedroom for the night. We went back to "Artha guesthouse", took our belongings, and checked out; and we will NEVER return.

Last of all; Honesty I have to say, the host is a nice man, friendly as well. But I don't understand how this place can receive so many good and excellent reviews. I'm very disappointed overall by Tripadvisor; normally I can go on their advice; in this case they let me down! I understand that Tripadvisor publish reviews from other travelers, but I think there should be some checking, or controlling before you give any place such a high position. This place on number 1 is really a shame for Tripadvisor!

Artha Hotel, Phuket Thailand
Summary in under 10 words: Bad location and Impossible to get sleep.

Detailed Review:

We booked The Artha Hotel based on reading the first 3 pages (30 passionately positive reviews) on TripAdvisor. Boy, do we ever wish we got to the 4th page in our search results where there is ONE truly accurate review by Sydney-Bound1.

We wanted a weekend vacation in Phuket to be the cherry on top of our Asia trip but instead we got NO sleep and could barely breathe from the heavy smoke fumes that rose into our room.

Pros:
*Large & tidy room. Nice owners who speak English.

Cons:
* BAD location - on a busy street surrounded by Karaoke bars where drunk singers bellow all night long! During our stay, they howled well into the next afternoon!

No exaggeration here, the owner Mally says this unfortunately happens all the time with these karaoke bars (It is so loud that it sounds like you are standing right next to the screaming singers, street drunks & thundering speakers).

*Thick smoke wreaks throughout the lobby, bar, check-in, stairwell, rooms...etc. The smoke stench from the chain-smoking hotel lobby loungers never let up during our time there thus making it difficult to breathe anywhere in the hotel.

The Artha Hotel was more than a 15 minute walk to the main Patong beach area for us. We later found other budget hotels that were newer, nicer and closer to the beach for the same price.

Although the owners are friendly, the overall stay was not comfortable, the location is not great and the area is too "rock concert-like" loud.
