Charles, the manager, made our stay enjoyable. He and his staff were very attentive and accommodating. They even bent over backwards to make sure that they gave us rides on a golf cart to the restaurant or our bus when needed.
I stayed in Big Moose lodge and the view from the balcony was great. I saw Heart island with Boldt castle, and had a panoramic view of the St. Lawrence River. Many boats went by and it was a great place for birding, reading and relaxing. This seems like a place that families would enjoy. There is a lot of space outside for kids to run around and explore. Other than the restaurant, I would not call this an upscale place.
Since I was with a group, we ate our seafood buffet dinner in the private banquet room they call the gazebo/red room since the restaurant was busy. It had a stage, a bar, a large balcony, couch, etc. It was connected to the gift shop/lobby area and restaurant. Unfortunately, it was overcast and rainy the whole time I was there (and it was just passed Labor Day) so I didn't get to use the outdoor pool, but it looked nice. The only real complaint I had was the Wi-Fi. I found it very hard to make a phone call from my room.

Wishing Edgewood much success in the future.
We set our reservations early, just as things were reopening from Covid, and the owners were very flexible for us, even upgrading us a bit. We ended up having rooms in the 500 section, which had beautiful balconies overlooking the bay. We really enjoyed sitting out on the balcony watching boats and just enjoying the time. Keep in mind that if you opt for the view of the piers that you will have to put up with the loud boats roaring in late night... it's part and parcel of the Bay. If you can't deal with it, ask for some of the rooms farther inland.
Rooms are very well apportioned and seem to have been updated recently. Everything looks clean and fairly new. Restrooms are spacious, with nice tubs/showers. Rooms have small refrigerators and plenty of drawers (and a closet). The air conditioner works pretty well and kept us comfortable. Parking is plentiful and there are some nice trails, scenes, and such to enjoy right on the grounds.
One of the downsides here (depending on your view) is that it is located pretty far off the main strip, and is reached by a long winding driveway. You can see the downtown from your room, but to get there would be a long walk or a good drive to go all the way around to downtown. If you like to be away from the hubbub and don't mind driving, this is a good thing.
The only low point that we have would be the meals we had at the resort's restaurant. Granted, being such a long walk from the downtown, it's nice that there is a bar and restaurant right on the grounds. The saloon was closed while we were there, but the first night we enjoyed a couple of beers at the restaurant. The restaurant looks nice, has a nice menu, and a tremendous view. We enjoyed hanging out with a few drinks. On the second night, we went there for dinner and were not impressed with the food. Service was outstanding but the food was lacking. We ordered off the menu and tried the blackened salmon, chicken milanese, and chicken riggies... none of them were very good. Flavors and textures were average to OK. They had a prime rib buffet going on, but we didn't try it.
Overall, this is a great place to stay - very comfortable and well appointed. I don't recommend the on site restaurant for anything much more than drinks, but it is tempting due to the proximity. There are enough nice places around in the Bay and Clayton that offer takeout that should satisfy your hunger!

We had several nights booked at the Harbor Hotel in Clayton but realized we were arriving a day early. In a pinch we stayed one night in their so called private balcony river room. Upon arrival we were told all the amenities are only open on Friday and Saturday. I was a little surprised at this point. No problem as we drive all day and were tired. Once we reached our room the area was dilapidated an unkempt. The room spelled overwhelmingly of Lysol cleaner. The bedding was of extremely low quality. I basically slept with my clothes on. There was also a very loud heater noise that came on and off all night. It was the worst night ever. We also were alarmed to find out that they close the lobby and don’t have a single employee on over night! What if an emergency happened? Don’t ever go to this resort!!!!
This resort is old, it has history, it has charm. To open the curtains and see the River, Boldt Castle, freighter going past is my idea of a happy place. I have over the years stayed in the room that we were in this weekend. It was renovated but the spirit of its past was there still. I have read some really nasty reviews of the Edgewood over the last couple of years and can still only wonder if these critics and I stayed in the same Edgewood. If you are looking for sleek and modern, stainless steel and black glass, it isn't your hotel. If you are looking for a beautiful, warm, charming, lovingly crafted hotel with comfy bedding, amazing views and spotlessly clean rooms...book a room. You won't be sorry.
"Again, this is a lovingly crafted and restored old North Country “lodge” style resort. It is not a chain hotel. Love it for what it is."Read full review
