First of all, This was originally a trip for my 15 yr old daughter, 23 yr old son and his girlfriend. My son was refused at check in due to damage (a ripped back page) of his passport. Tui told us Turkey are very fussy and would allow him into the country so we had to leave him behind. I am mentioning this for people to be aware of. His photo page was fully intact, his passport number clear, the rip did not affect these but he was still refused. OK, so, Blue Bay Platinum. I’ve read mixed reviews and believe I am very balanced with mine. Firstly, I wouldn’t rate the hotel no higher than 3 star British standard. The rooms were fairly small, clean and nicely decorated, but, compact. The bathroom was a let down, the grouting needed scrubbed or replaced, the shower head had no power and I struggled to wash my hair. The walk-in shower was so slippy I am surprised I didn’t fall over. No USB sockets in the room at all, which for a 4/5 I’d expect. No where decent to do your makeup, dim lighting throughout the room, unimportant to some, but no full length mirror lol Air con worked fine. The corridors look impressive, as does the rest of the hotel. It felt almost like a lot of attention to detail went on everything except the rooms. We had the same cleaner every day for our floor, lovely lady. I was told that if you tip cleaners they’ll look after you well while you’re there. So, on day 2 I tipped her 200 lira (around £5) but our room cleaning was hit and miss, only twice did she leave us a floor towel/mat, sheets were not changed throughout the stay, shower was not washed out once, this grossed me out as it had a build up of our hair, sand etc. but the shower head was attached to the ceiling and did not reach so I had no way to rinse it myself which I would have happily done. In hindsight, I should have reported this at the time. There was just something grimy about the bathroom, poor lighting too. Sunbeds: There are an abundance, however, in October, there were only certain parts around the pools at certain times you got sun, so you would find people putting towels down in the early hours to secure those parts that got better sun. There were always plenty of beds in the shade. The towel they give you is small and thin; I’ll bring my own next time. The main pool is quite a distance from any bar which I found annoying, I may be lazy, but never have I had to walk very far to get an alcoholic drink. If, again, you tip one of the staff 50lira, they will take drinks orders which worked for me a few times, but I know some will resent paying this on top of the holiday. I struggled with the all-inclusive drinks selection, all local spirits, none nice. Cocktails overly sweet, I settled for the Rose wine which wasn’t nice at first, but after 3 glasses you just got used to it lol The food, now I make this very clear, I do not like all inclusive food, anywhere, so this would be a poor rating anyway due to my fussiness. But this was very low on the scale. I literally couldn’t bear it. I marked it 2 or 3 out of 10 every visit. Although we had it on a Sunday, and I must say, this was decent. I found the staff in the restaurant quite off most of the time, the bar staff too, perhaps due to it been end of season, but I definitely didn’t feel welcome. Entertainment when it was on was decent, the entertainers very friendly with lots of banter. The pools, were all small in my opinion. I did not see the adult only or indoor one. The beach is a short walk away. No all inclusive but there are guys providing a drinks service. Now, here’s some savvy advice. Turkey flights all seem to be bad times meaning you check out at 12noon and without a room for a long time. It was £50 to keep our room on until 4pm, just 4 hours. There is a basic hotel next door, I went and had a chat with the owner. She gave us one of their rooms for £45 until we were ready for our transfer flight at 11pm. So, we still got our all-inclusive and use of pools, but used her room to get showered and ready for the flight home – and her bathrooms were freshly renovated with a beautiful powerful shower! If you stay here give Ledbury’s a few doors along a try, lovely food and staff, a bit further down, Always Bar, fantastic night out! Just be aware drinking out in Turkey is as expensive as drinking in UK city centres! I will definitely be returning to Marmaris, but not this hotel unfortunately. …
