By a stroke of luck our cruise ship was forced to overnight in Montevideo, so we were able to spend one night in the romantic old town of Colonia del Sacramento at Colonia Suite Apartments. We were warmly welcomed by Luis, who ushered us into the most wonderful row house ever—beautiful brick walls covered with his amazing paintings and tile floors. We walked along the entry hall, admiring his artwork, to a lovely living room where the reception desk was. Beyond that was a kitchen/dining room that opened onto a lovely garden with high brick walls and lovely plants, trees, and flowers everywhere. Our suite upstairs (a small apartment in itself) had a private bath with a lovely rock-walled shower, living room with king-sized bed, small kitchen/dining area, and a private patio overlooking the garden below. Before we set out to explore the town, Luis gave us a map, marked with the not-to-miss attractions + recommendations of restaurants for dinner. It was an absolutely magical place to stay. Our only regret was that we could not stay longer. We would have loved to spend several days there!

Stayed here with husband and son over New Year. Love everything about this place. Quirky, full of art, colour, crafts, and great attention to detail. Managed brilliantly by Luis. I thought he must be the owner and was amazed to hear he was not. He is a special gem. I would be poaching him if he lived in London! Highly recommended. Would definitely stay again.

What a warm, charming and inviting environment. I had a lovely suite, tastefully and well furnished, plus a very useful and well-stocked kitchen. The location could not be more central to everything and Luis makes you feel at home. Plus value, value, value! And a wonderful breakfast comes with.

What a wonderful, and special place. I'll start by thanking Luis Cabral, the host/manager of this super special place. From the moment we walked in we felt like we were walking into a home. Luis made the check-in fast and easy so we could start enjoying our stay. The rooms are all different, all very nice. If we come again I'll choose the room Miró, on the top floor. This time we stayed at Freida Kallo room, also very nice and cozy. Our friends were in the garden room, also a gem. Nice family breakfast table. Thanks, Luis! I have recommended this place to several people already, and I know some of them will be going! Un abrazo!

My friend and I visited here after a week in Buenos Aires, looking for a little more restful experience. We certainly found it here. Luis was the consummate host, greeting us at the door, orienting us with a map marked with restaurants and areas of interest. He has done a beautiful job decorating the house with artwork of all kinds, and each room is very clean and has a kitchenette, which comes in very handy. They serve a continental breakfast here but at 20 dollars per person we decided to forego that and simply purchase croissants and beverages about a block away. Colonia Suite Apartments is conveniently located and has a lovely courtyard garden. It’s a lovely quaint place with a very kind and friendly host. A home away from home.

My wife and I came to Colonia for a few days to experience the peace and tranquillity of this lovely town (the historic town has been well preserved) after a few days in the hectic hustle and bustle of Buenos Aires, on the other side of the Rio de la Plata (River Plate). The service is very personal, with a warm, friendly and very helpful host, Luis. Nothing is too much trouble, for example, when we needed laundry done and the local lavandera was not open, he arranged it for us. He has a fantastic wealth of local knowledge and can speak good English. For an authentic experience of the classic Spanish charm in the historic town, this would be difficult to beat. Everything was spotlessly clean, there is plenty of space and we had a lovely balcony opening up to trees and birdsong. My wife loves birds and felt almost that she had been teleported onto a movie set. My wife tells me that she experienced the best sleep on our trip here. I do not know if there is baggage storage etc, but I am sure if you needed such services, Luis would help with whatever you needed. The Battle of the River Plate". Muchas gracias, Luis, y esperamos a viajaremos otra vez en el futuro.

The three of us stayed here for our first few days in Uruguay. What a fantastic first impression we got of this amazing country! Our host, Luis was warm and friendly, speaks good English, and was very dedicated to ensuring we had everything we might need. He was on hand during the day, but discretely, allowing us to make our own discoveries where we wanted to, and giving support when we asked for it. A perfect host! This is an old city building which has been thoughtfully converted into apartments. Everything was scrupulously clean and well maintained. A quiet walled garden lies out the back where guests may sit and enjoy the evening. The beds were comfortable and everything we needed was provided, including the all-important kettle for English tea. (Teabags also provided!) The location is ideal, being very close to the town centre, yet plenty of street parking nearby if needed. It’s also but a short walk to the historic lighthouse and ancient city ruins (UNESCO heritage site), set amongst quiet, tree-lined streets and squares. Unobtrusive cafes and restaurants are dotted around, and there’s a pervading sense of peace and tranquillity. One highlight for us was watching the sun set into the river/estuary. This is our first ever visit to Uruguay, and I hope we can come back soon! When we do, we will be booking into the Colonia Suite Apartments again!

Great hotel! One of the best places I've been. It is a pity that we stayed for one night only. It was my birthday. I will remember it for a long time. The owner was very hospitable. The room was beautiful and lovely terrace.

I am so sad I only got to spend one night in this enchanting hotel, I could quite happily have moved in! I stayed in a top floor room with a balcony, over looking the garden. The suites are delightfully decorated, featuring wonderful art and quirky touches. Luis' hospitality is wonderful, he greets you like an old friend and is full of great advice and tips. Can't wait to get the chance to stay here again.
