When we first arrived I was a little concerned on two fronts, the place looked a little bit dated and we appeared to be miles from anywhere... but as the saying goes you should never judge a book by its cover.....

There is no beach. The typhoon has washed it away and undermined the seawallandpart of the floor of the beach bar. They've used rope to secure palm trees so they are not washed away. My wife and I prefer small quiet hotels, this isn't one of those, it is a mass resort. To us, and my wife is a chef, the food was expensive and the worst of the four hotels we've stayed in in Vietnam. The room, a bungalow was delightful, the grounds, wheelchair accessible and beautiful but we only stayed one night and returned to Hue. The typhoon was to blame for much of what displeased us and we accept that having lived with cyclones for over 20 years in northern Australia but the attitude and service left much to be desired compared the the Saigon Morin in Hue, the Silk Path Boutique in Hanoi and the Victoria Spa resort in Sapa. Additionally the tailors in Hue are cheaper better and nicer to work with, in our experience. The tours were called off because of the storm just to add to the problems and the is an APEC conference on so all attention is on that.

we visited the first two weeks if August this year and it only rained once during the night. the main issue is incredible heat - 45 degrees every day couples with veey high humidity at around 80% at night. Air con is pretty non existent outside main hotels so be prepared to look like you have come out of the shower fully clothed on an evening.
