We are two couples in our 60s and we did not enjoy staying at this ryokan. The unpleasantness started at check in when the woman had our reservations but could not figure out which third party vendor we booked through. Her English is almost non-existent and she acted very frazzled by everything. When we finally had all of that resolved,... More

We stayed here for two nights and it's our first time visit Takayama city. Ryokan location is great, only 5 mins by walk from Takayama station; check-in was smooth and we love our spacious tatami room at second floor with private toilet and amenities. We enjoy onsen twice a day, especially before breakfast, around 7am there was no people use... More

perfect location and walking distance from everything. It's 40 years old and has a bit unpleasant smell on some areas. We have arrived to hotel about 1.30 pm. Our rooms have not been ready. Check in os 3 pm. We have been able to leave our language at hotel. Rooms are spacious. Bed was very comfortable. In fact it was... More

I stayed here with my partner and mother, we loved every minute of it. The staff were lovely and friendly and allowed me into the shared bath even with my tattoos (they did request that I went after 9pm which is still much more generous that other locations). Fabulous Japanese breakfast.

We stayed three nights in February in a superior room with private bathroom. It's a traditional Ryokan with sliding doors and tatami floors so you have to take your shoes off when you enter. The room was large and the beds very comfortable. We stayed with our three year old son and he loved his "new house". The private bathroom... More

I really love the entrance of the hotel. It's very authentic. The room is really traditional. The room I got was a tatami style room with futon provided. It was really spacious for 2 people. Also, all the basic necessities are provided.

We enjoyed staying here for 3 nights. Our room was clean and futons were comfortable. The public baths (onsen) was beautiful and clean and I was often the only one there. Hodakaso Yamanoiori is a short walk to the main bridge and the old part of town and is only around the corner from one of the main temples.

Comfortable traditional Japanese family hotel in a tranquil environment. Spacious rooms which are well-equipped. Indoor onsen opens 24 hours a day. Should not miss the nicely-set outdoor onsen which opens only in fixed hours. Meals provided in the hotel are tasty though not very luxury.

The staff are really friendly, the indoor public bath is a bit small though..but it's only 2 minutes walk from the station and 5 minutes away from the city market...dine in is a bit expensive, but there's a lot of good restaurant around the block so don't worry about where to dine

If you are a seasoned traveller to Japan, you can skip this ryokan. It is not really near the train station. The interior of the room is run down and is not clean. There is no lift, hence not a good choice for elderly traveller or traveller with heavy luggage. Breakfast served in western style is not value for money.... More
