Minshuku Sosuke it a short walk from Takayama Station, across the street from the Takayama Green Hotel. The food is excellent and very cheap, I would recommend eating dinner there every night you stay. Sosuke also has a small bathing room, but for a real onsen, just head across the street to the Takayama Green, they have a gigantic one....

Of all the places I stayed during my travels in Japan Minshuku Sousuke was the worst. It's located near the train station and the staff speak English well, but the room you get is spartan, derelict, and overlooking a noisy road. Hilariously, the owners left a note on the table saying something like "this room might look ramshackle but we...

A large Ryokan with quite large rooms and shared bathroom facilities. Very clean and the staff were helpful. The futons were a bit thin for us and the pillows tiny. The traditional Japanese meals that we had here were wonderful. The walls are (Japanese) thin, so noise from neighbouring rooms, late arrivals and early departures are a bit of a...

I first stayed in this Minshuku in 1986 and always vowed to go back to it and to Takayama. Well, this August we got our chance and we spent one night here on our two week trip (family of five). Whereas in 1986 I think it was more rural it is now on a busy road but I have to...

THIS IS A RYOKEN, which is basically the same as a hostel, just japaneese style. The people were nice... But the location is so close to the road, which makes a lot of traffic noise. We slept on futons on the floor and getting extra, in order to sleep better, made no improvement. It was like the futons had just...

I think the highlight of our one night stay at Sosuke was the food, so I'd probably recommend Sosuke more for people who want to drink the meals. We ate dinner and breakfast at the inn, and enjoyed both a lot. The room was simple but pleasant. You have to make up your own beds, and I'm not convinced we...

What a thoroughly lovely place. We were met with such a warm and friendly greeting. It's such a quaint place. Simple rooms (futons) with shared facilities. There are communal onsen too, but I always had it to myself. Food is incredible! Even just come in for a meal (if that's possible). Possibly the best meal I've had. We spent 2...

Friend and me were in Takayama end of March, 2014 - owners are wonderful people, easy to communicate to in English. It's is a traditional Japanese style guesthouse, clean, excellent service, delicious food. Location is also convenient. My favorite stay in Japan. Felt like home.

Warm welcome to this minshuka by the owner, Keiko. The guesthouse has traditional tatame rooms, sleeping on a comfortable futon. It has seperate male and female common bath, irori fireplace and serves meals, enabling its guests to experience a bit of Japanese life. It's nice as there we're a mix of Japanese and guests of other nationalities. Very good value...

My friend and I travelled for the autumn festival. The minshuku was clean and well kept. One of the staff spoke a reasonable amount of English. The location was about 7 minute walk to the train/bus station (centre of town), with bike hire at the larger hotel across the road. There was breakfast and dinner included on one night/morning (breakfast...
