Everything was so lovely, from the welcoming grin of Sumiko who greeted us, to the full Japanese treatment of staying in a ryokan. The Japanese breakfast was lavish and always appetising. The rooms were clean and beautifully appointed. The Japanese bath was wonderful. It was a only little distance from the railway station - perhaps 500m, and was very easy...

I stayed for 3 nights with daily breakfast and tried the dinner once, they were perfect and i love the miso especially. The room and onsen were exactly the same as they were seen in the photos. I love the onsen and practically used it every night! The owners were very polite and accommodating, however they were very respectful to...

Stayed for 4 days 3 nights in lovely Takayama town. It's really well maintained for a 100 year old Inn. Sumi-Chan and the rest are simply lovely! Many thanks to sumi Chan for her baby whisperer skills. My 2 year old Son is normally very shy and doesn't warm up to strangers easily loved her as she talk to him...

The room is a bit small but it was clean and cozy. The in-room dining is impressive. The staff are old lady and man who will try their best to communicate with you in English. They are kind and considerate. There are 3 public bathrooms which could be lock for private use. Highly recommend for traveller who wanted to experience...

I really enjoyed my stay in Sumiyoshi Ryokan. 1 thing that made me enjoy my stay is the granny who is warm, friendly and adorable. She was so cheerful and talkative to me and my husband although her english is limited. Sumiyoshi Ryokan has a very nice and private onsen that is free of charge when you stay there. And...

The owners were really welcoming and made us feel very commfortable:) The meal was really scrumptious too with quality beef and many side dishes which made us feel like royalty. The most important thing you would feel is the hospitality of this place. The owner and the mama-san really went all out to make sure we are comfortable and also...

What a charming ryokan! The owners couldn't have been sweeter and we adored our room overlooking the river and the morning market! Loved our dinner there with mama-san decked out in her kimono and delivering a dazzling assortment of traditional foods (simmering Hida beef, artful sashimi, tempura, etc. along with an assortment of pickles and other things we didn't take)....

I stay one night here in Takayama on 1/Dec. It is easy to find ryokan. About 10 min walk from Takayama station. My room for single stay is on 1st floor last room. The owner is quite old but she can communicate with easy English. She can explain all functions related to place and room well. There're 2 bath rooms...

This Ryokan is simply amazing, the decoration of the place is just fantastic, you get that old "traditional" atmosphere since the very first step into the house, which in itself feels like a very awesome museum; yet the house has all the modern commodities you can wish for. It is located close to the river with views to it and...

A stay in a traditional Ryokan was on my to do list for visiting Japan and Sumiyoshi did not let me down. It was wonderful. We stayed two nights and I just fell in love with this place. From the hard working, lovely elderly owners who wave you off down the street to the stray well fed cat who looks...
