It was a much better hotel than I expected.
Overall it was a beautiful hotel, well cleaned, and I felt comfortable.

The baths were gender-swapped, so you could enjoy both, and I put in a mist sauna, a pot bath, etc.
There was also a partition in each place where he washed himself, and it was spacious.

The morning and evening buffets also included steaks, ramen, tempura, cheese raclette from the flower garden, and rice balls, so I could enjoy the hot food deliciously.

There was also a machine of soft serve ice cream and sweet bean paste, and I couldn't help but overeat.

It also became one of the hotels I would love to visit.

Loved the whole experience; a great deal on the room, awesome onsen and decent location. Slightly strange check in staff, but a great place all of the same. Had a wonderful view from our balcony. Definitely recommended for family trips and business

Was able to spend only one night here due to our schedule but would have wanted a longer stay. The room on the top 7th floor was recently renovated with a 3-tatami mat and shoji doors closing the window/lanai area; the bathroom had a large shower and the beds were very comfortable. The onsen bath were very relaxing with complimentary ice pops. The buffets were excellent with real large crab legs, tempura station, sushi station, and stir fry steak station for dinner; breakfast had cod roe, sashimi and crab meat for the taking. Should have made a crab sandwich and kept it for later...

It may be unavoidable since it has been renovated, but the smell unique to an old building bothered me, and it was disappointing that the air conditioning at the entrance to the room was covered in dust. In addition to the dust and smell, the air conditioning and refrigerator were noisy due to the old facilities.
As for the food, the salmon roe I was looking forward to was not fresh and the grains were crushed, giving it a strong fishy smell. The charcoal-grilled seafood was also fishy, which was disappointing. The roll sandwich at the bread corner and the melon dessert were very delicious.
The food had received high praise, so my expectations were too high.

I wrote the complain on the 3 Jan 2017, title “ hotel staff chase us out during breakfast and hot bath.” The hotel Manager replied on 10 Jan2017 , “we will receive an evaluation……no good”. He did not even apologized to us for the serious mistakes that their staff made. Instead talk back , telling me not to mention names. We paid so much money for 10 hours stay (2 rooms). The CCTV will prove everything . Shame on you, shame on your staff. I booked from A@@da and they even apologized to us . My best advice to readers, stay in an international chain hotel when you visit small town like Hakodate. You will have longer breakfast time, late check out , easy to file a complain and I bet you will not regret .

We stayed one night, two rooms on 23 December 16 . We check-in at midnight we took 4 hours train from Sapporo (standing tickets) after our flight to Tokyo is cancelled due to snow. Buffet breakfast is provided from 6:30 am till 9 am. We entered at 8:45 am and stop taking food from the counter at 9 am but we (incl. my 6 years son) were still eating at 9.10 am. A tall male staff told us to leave the restaurant at once , crossing both arm and said "Stop from being here." Reasonable hotel policy , they can removed all the foods on the buffet table, but let guests finish eating the remaining food they took , at least 30 minutes after the closing hour.
When we check out at 10, we were given permission by the two young ladies at the reception , to let us use hot bath "onsen" facility after max. check- out time at 10 am. The facility open from 5 am till 9:30 am and re-open at 12.00 noon. While using the facility at noon , a concierge Mr. Murosaki "old man" rudely told me, we can not use the facility because we already check out at 10 am. I explained to him we had a permission to use before we catch a 3:45 pm train to Tokyo. But he insisted no with "rude facial expression, " and made no apology. Imagine staying for just 10 hours for a premium price and receive that kind of treatment ? When we left the lobby at 2 pm , my wife saw him re-arrange the sofa where we sat , grumbling and use both hands make (gesture) circle movement in the air "to get rid of negative energy." The only super helpful, super polite receptionist is Miss Eri Mikami , I rate her 10/10. Thank you so much Eri Mikami for your kindness, we’ll never forget you. Thank you also for breakfast chef who cook teppanyaki beef for us. The owner not aware having employed a couple of unworthy male employees.

Food was great. The onsen fantastic. The room reeked of cigarette smell. It was like living in an ashtray. This is on a non smoking floor. Spoilt my entire stay in Hakodate. If you are a non smoker , avoid at all cost.

It is really a pity that I only stayed there for 1 night. I am not fond of hot spa but I like having it there. I felt very comfortable and relaxed to prepare myself for the spa, to enjoy the spa and to continue the relaxing mood after the spa there. The room also allowed to have very nice and good sleep. Definitely, I will return if I will be Hakodate again.

Booked two rooms for my family of four for two nights.
Sent an email prior to arrival for rooms to be next to each other and email was answered promptly in English.

Arrived early in Hakodate airport and took two taxis to the hotel as we had four adults and four big suitcases. Cost of cab ride was under ¥2000 each.

Checkin time was 3pm but they took our passport details and kept our luggages for us and told us to come back by 3pm.
We took a tram to town and had lunch at Hakodate morning market and did some shopping before going back to the hotel about 2pm.

Upon return to the hotel, the receptionist kindly handed us the keys to the rooms even though it wasn't 3pm yet. The luggages had already been delivered to the rooms.
When we got to the rooms, I found out that they had upgraded us to the rooms with balcony.

Rooms are beautiful, bright and new with two twin beds. Bathrooms is a good size with a big sink area with shelves, a high tech Japanese toilet and a separate shower area (no bathtub though)

I had booked buffet dinner for the first night and food was really good with a lot of variety. Definitely try the buffet dinner and breakfast at this hotel as the quality was amongst the best in all my past experiences in Japanese onsen hotels.

Service was mostly friendly especially the reception staff.

Only minus we encountered was during breakfast on the first morning, don't know why the staff at the restaurant gestured us to the side hall dining area where we noticed are mostly filled with foreign tour groups instead of the main dining area.
We didn't understand her gesture at first and attempted to sit at the main dining area but was told brusquely to go to the side hall.
We were a bit affronted as weren't on package tour.

Other than this one incident, the stay was mostly good.
Hotel location is not in the city center.
You do need to take a 20minute tram ride or bus ride to Hakodate Station area.

For us, it was nice to return to the hotel for onsen and relaxation after a day's activities in the cold.

One night stay here, too short but a good experience. I think the room is small but i would say it's enough space. The room is modern with modern amenities. The buffet restaurant is also large to accommodate a lot of people and the food is also good. Loved the onsen bath here too.

Do you have interconnecting rooms for family?
Answer from Glenn808
Honolulu, Hawaii40 contributions34 helpful votes
You will need to contact the hotel directly if there are interconnecting rooms or suites. The building looked like a typical hotel/apartment with single balconies and the top floor room where I stayed did not have any doors to connect to adjacent room. In March they were building an annex next door that may have such; I anticipate that building won't be ready for at least 6 months.
