The location is between Hakodate-yama and Hakodate station, and is next to Hakodate bay area, conveniently located. You can walk to the hotel from Hakodate station, the tram station is 5 min walk, Hokodate yama ropeway station and Hakodata old city area is 15min walk. The room we stayed was not western style, I guess you can stay in western style if you want, but we liked Tatami and Futon, with some sitting space to view Hakodate yama. In the room, there was coffee mill and coffee dripper so you can relax in the room after onsen on the top floor. The floor of onsen area is a bit slippy, so be careful.
We booked this hotel because of the famous all-you-can-eat seafood breakfast. Maybe my expectations were too high, the quality of the breakfast was not top-notch. Having said that, yes you can create your on seafood rice bowl. You can put Ikura (Salmon roe) as much as you want, there were several grilled seafood and vegetables. In addition to that, because this hotel is famous for its breakfast, there was a group of tourists from China. Their rudeness and manner at the buffet were unbearable. If the hotel can accommodate Chinese group tourists in the different buffet areas, which other hotels often do, the general guests would very appreciate and we can use the buffet cleanly.

Admittedly my partner and I were suffering from colds when we arrived in Hakodate but the temperature drop from Tokyo was welcome. Only stayed a night on the way to Sapporo. Tbf there didn’t appear to be much to differentiate hotels in Hakodate from the searches we did, but this one seemed good value and well located (we walked from the station). Checkin was fine and our assistant worked hard to understand (with the aid of google translate) about my feather allergy - all bedding replaced rapidly. Rooms are kinda compact and done out in a trad dark wood style with futons (which were on a platform so no issues getting up or off them) but that tended to take most of the available floor space. Bathroom was fully functional. Breakfast buffet was an amazing array of seafood foodstuffs (which I guess is to be expected in a port town) but western breakfast choices were a bit limited but we found enough to get by. Staff were always lovely. Onsen on the roof looked busy (and had we felt better we would have used it) but it’s a useful amenity. Overall good choice

Continental style hotel
Although the room is old, it is very clean
Japanese and Western style rooms, very cozy
The natural hot spring is very comfortable with Mount Hakodate in the distance.
Only the hair dryer in the dressing room is not powerful enough to blow hair, and toiletries such as cotton swabs and cotton pads are not provided. Pick it up early in the lobby.
Additionally, there is no laundry service. Everyone should pay attention.
The breakfast is excellent, you can eat all you want, the fish is very fresh, and there are all kinds of other Japanese and Western food. The scenery is opposite the Jinsen Warehouse, which is a great pleasure. Although the hotel is located at a JR station, there is a minibus to pick you up at the right time.

I'm not sure why there are criticisms of this place. My husband and I had a perfectly great night here on the way down to the main island of Japan and I really wanted to stay longer. Yes the rooms are small (but isn't this the case for most of the hotel rooms in Japan?)

I was very pleasantly surprised by the interesting European style of the hotel and the gorgeous views from the rooftop outdoor baths (which are free to use for hotel guests). There were also complimentary hot drinks in the lobby and a few restaurants surrounding the hotel complex which made for very easy meal planning.

Hakodate is quite a small town but the main touristy places were within reach near the hotel or accessible by tram. Love that the hotel was walking distance from the seafood market and the Redbrick Warehouse shopping area. It was also nearby the ropeway to Mt. Hakodate.

The room was pretty small. I wasn't expecting it to be large but it was small to an extent that the 'bathroom' was just a small cubicle with a toilet and shower area (separated) and the sink was in the room.
We had a small suitcase and a medium suitcase but they couldnt really be opened together in the room without it blocking the corridor to the door.
The bed was right next to the window and whoever slept near the window could feel a cool breeze from the window.
Despite the size of the room, the bed was comfortable and the room was cozy enough for the night's stay. There was a coffee bean grinder (and beans provided) and also 2 packs of free popcorn which seemed to be a popular snack for tourists to buy.

A basket of towel and clothes to wear to the rooftop onsen was provided in the room. The onsen was separated into male and female baths each with outdoor and indoor baths. The female changing room was huge with vanity tables and vinegar drinks which you can dispense to drink as you wish.
There were lots of people using the onsen but it doesnt seem overcrowded as there were still space for you to sit whether in the pools or the shower area. The indoor area had 2 indoor baths and one cold water bath while the outdoor area had one large bath and 3 small tubs. It was snowing while I was there so enjoying a hot soak while feeling the snowfall was a very lovely experience. The outdoor area was sheltered but the wind did blow the snow into the pool.
After the hot bath, we could cool off with the ice lollies back out in the common area which could be enjoyed while looking out at the beautiful view. Such a good idea, especially if you had to wait for a partner to finish.

The breakfast didn't disappoint! Such a variety of food to choose from, even unlimited crab roes!
The notices say that the restaurant gets busy from 8am onwards so we went at 7:30am and there was already a long queue to get in (but it wasnt a long wait). It turns out that if you were to arrive at 9am for breakfast (that was when we left) the queues would be much shorter and there would still be enough food.

What's the best thing to enjoy is the food! When you think of Hakodate, Hokkaido, you think of delicious seafood. I went there because it was an all-you-can-eat restaurant. To be honest, everything except the breakfast was pretty average. I thought that, but the hot spring was amazing. The rooftop open-air bath was so cold that I almost collapsed, but I managed to dive into the tub and was able to enjoy the tsubo-yu and sauna. There was nothing to complain about. Everything was great except for the breakfast dessert, but I felt that the dessert was a little disappointing, probably because everything else was too good. The all-you-can-eat ice cream and the welcome coffee were both delicious. It was a shame that I missed out on the nighttime soba noodles, but the room had a great view, and I was surprised that the final checkout was done quickly and efficiently with the machine. The tourist information, such as how to ride the bus and timetables for each destination, was also a useful reference.

It was my first time in Hakodate and I wanted to see the night view, so I requested a shared taxi ride to see the night view. I was with my child and he was making a lot of noise, which was a little annoying, but thanks to the taxi driver, I was able to enjoy the night view very much. If you want to see the night view during your stay in Hakodate, I recommend this hotel!

I used it for two nights at New Year.
A lot of foreigners were staying here, probably due to the inbound influence.
The wooden railings in the open-air bath were rotten. (They were repaired and secured the next day.)
The outdoor temperature was quite lukewarm, probably due to the outside temperature.
I expected breakfast, but it was not like it was shown on TV, just like a normal business hotel.
For a seafood seller, there was not much variety.
Desserts and bread were also frozen. I only made pudding.

The room was twin, but there was only one outlet at the pillow, and the desk outlet was used to charge the phone.
The bed was in a small stairwell, which was difficult to use.

I often stay at Yunokawa Onsen when I'm in Hakodate, but this time I was attracted by the good reviews of this hotel's breakfast buffet and tried it for the first time.
The hotel seems to have been around for quite some time and felt quite old. The bath was nice as it had a sauna. The breakfast area was packed and until I got the popular menu item I felt like I was on a packed train.
But the seafood bowl with lots of salmon roe was delicious.
The biggest problem was the air conditioning in the room.
It's centrally controlled so you can't control the temperature as you want.
It was quite inconvenient that you couldn't dry it even if you wanted to.
I heard that they have opened an annex, so next time I'd like to try that too.

We wait in long lines for 30-50 minutes for breakfast. The hot springs are mostly crowded with adults in the morning, but by 8 p.m. they were crowded with about half of families. It is a family-friendly inn for sightseeing in the surrounding area rather than a relaxing hot springs atmosphere.
