It is within walking distance of Hakodate Station, but there is also a tram station nearby, so it was very convenient for us who don't have a car.
The buffet breakfast was very good. Being able to make your own seafood bowl was especially luxurious and we enjoyed it every morning, and the other guests were pleased too.
The coffee was also from a coffee shop in Hakodate and was very delicious. It would have been even better if there had been a chef who could make egg dishes.
The large public bath was also very comfortable, and there were even free popsicles available. We were very grateful for the thoughtfulness and had a comfortable stay. Thank you very much.

The hotel is located 500 m from the morning market . Parking is 1000 yen per night and is accessed via the front entrance to the hotel. There are some covered car parks but these are closed to the public . You need to validate your car park at the reception each time you leave the car park . Rooms are fairly large by Japanese standards . However wifi is very very slow and the beds are a little soft though two pillows are offered . Bathroom is average size . Amenities all present except for razors which one collects at reception . Onsen is only one indoor rectangular one - very very hot though with amazing views of Hakodate . Free popsicles are provided outside the onsen . Breakfast buffet is amazing with free flow sashimi like Tuna belly , salmon , sweet small prawns , cuttlefish and ikura. Cooked sashimi beef is juicy and delicious . I think that people stay here for the breakfast- costs 3500 yen . We stayed a total of two nights . The first morning was a Sunday morning and there was a queue to get in at 8 am. We waited half an hour before we could get seats . Second Monday morning was better. There was also a set Japanese breakfast offered on the second level but no queue to that one . When we were there , there was whiskey tasting session with smoky cheese and small snacks at 2500 yen .

A convenient hotel for sightseeing within walking distance of Red Brick and Mt. Hakodate. It is famous for its busy morning buffet, but I got in at 7:30 without lining up. We enjoyed local ingredients such as seafood and Hakodate milk. Personally, the Hitsumabushi from Matsumae on the second day was delicious. The calm atmosphere, the smiling faces of the staff (male), and the small conversations made me happy from the morning.
The public bath was spacious and you could take your time, and it was fun to choose the free ice cream.
There were two types of pillows, but it would have been nice to have a soft pillow.
It was a lovely hotel. I would like to stay here again when I visit Hakodate.

There are plenty of hotels with similarly convenient location, stay away from Kokusai as the staff are not trained to even attempt to serve customers basic needs such as making a reservation at the hotel restaurants. We are in the third night of our stay and each night, the front desk does not offer any assistance to help book dinner despite our pleas and the restaurant kept saying close (which is actually full at the moment) and also do not bother to inform us to come back later. In fact there responses are jaw dropping lack of care for guest dining that makes me think they have family running the 7/11 across the street. For a hotel of this scale and price point, this breakdown in service mindset training definitely reflects the attitude from the top ie old style managers sitting behind desk and pushing responsibilities to their staffs. Avoid if possible or just stay 1 night!

Thank you for staying at Hakodate Kokusai Hotel. Please accept my sincere apologies for not being able to meet your expectations regarding the dinner during your stay. I am ashamed of the lack of hospitality. I would like to focus on employee education and improve it again. I am very sorry.

It is within walking distance of the Hakodate Morning Market and the Kanamori Red Brick Warehouse, and is also close to the Mount Hakodate Ropeway and the church area, so I think it is in the best location for sightseeing in Hakodate. For breakfast, I decided not to go to the buffet, which is so popular that there is a waiting list, and instead had the eel from Japanese restaurant Unagi Matsumae, where you can choose from three types of Hitsumabushi set meals. I was able to enjoy it with a very delicious broth. The other two types also looked delicious, so I think it would be good for consecutive nights. If you stay four nights in a row, you can try them all. In the morning, there was an all-you-can-drink Hokkaido local sake "Kokushi Musou", but it was a shame that I couldn't drink it because I was driving. I would like to use it again the next time I visit Hakodate.

Extreme disappointment at the service of one of your staff - Ms Yu. who checked me in during my stay on 14-15 July 2023. She said that my booking to which I paid 14,900円 was not valid as I am a foreigner, and told me that this booking had to be cancelled and refunded and I had to pay 17,900円 for my stay. She repeatedly reassured me that I would get a refund for 14,900円 by 2 weeks back into my card automatically and that I did not have to chase for this. However, no such thing has happened. I am very upset that I have not gotten a refund up till today and that your staff is completely unreliable with her words. I would like a thorough investigation into this matter.

Thank you for staying with us. First of all, your reservation was JAPAN Nationwide Travel Supported plan, so you can't use this one becouse you are a foreigner. Therefore, our stuff booked new reservation for you,and she cancelld your first reservation. But the first reservation was already paid by your credit card, so we anticipate that the refunding from the credit card company may be late as she said. There's nothing we can do for you about this matter becouse this ploblem is just you between the credit card company. We are sorry but please wait for refund from the company. Thank you.

I stayed here as part of a group of 18 travellers. The hotel was modern and clean and the room was comfortable if a little quirky to Western eyes! My friend is gluten intolerant and there were no nearby GF restaurants so we plumped for the hotel's own restaurant and their £40 a head set meal. The waiter spoke good English and was able to modify the options to give a really good meal, artistically presented and fantastic quality. I tried the onsen, which was good, if busy, and the glass panels outside were rather steamed up to see the view at night! Breakfast was comprehensive and the hotel is a short walk from the historic warehouse/Quay area. A really enjoyable one night stay.

Good value for money in every respect. The atmosphere is calm and classy, and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. I definitely recommend the plan that includes breakfast. The buffet also has a good variety and quality❣️The set meal corner has a Hitsumabushi set meal, seafood bowl, and meat version. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is very calming. From the room you can see Mt. Hakodate. The night view of Hakodate is amazing from the observation bath on the top floor. You can easily go sightseeing, but you can refresh yourself just by staying in the hotel. I hope the hotel maintains its quality. I would like to visit this hotel again✌️

It was one of our hotel stays on our weeklong trip in Hokkaido and I can say that this hotel can provide basic amenities and the breakfast was interesting as it offers Japanese specialties and international continental breakfast. Room amenities offer basic needs and focuses on sustainability. What I like in Japan hotels is they provide you with room clothes beside the bath robe. Warm hospitality from the staff despite mostly cannot speak english

I stayed at Standard Twin Smoking for 3 days and 2 nights from the 19th. Aside from the smell of the room, I thought the cleaning was reasonably well done, but there was some package trash by the window, which is a shame! When we closed the lace curtains, both sides tore open holes… It was a shame… Room 1659, by the way. Hot springs and breakfast (you can choose from 2 places) are satisfying From the morning on, there is a wide variety of wine and sake all-you-can-drink ... salmon roe was the goal, but the www venue allows you to eat early but slowly! The location is also good and it is convenient for sightseeing within walking distance of Hakodate Station, morning market, red brick I had high hopes and good impressions on my second visit, but it was a bit disappointing. Would I want to use it again if I had the chance??(^^)/ 2025.1

No, the wing we stayed in had not been refurbished. The worst thing was the very dirty state of the carpets. This problem should have been easy to solve.
I’m sure parking is free. There are lots of streets for parking around the hotel. I really don’t know about ‘onsen’. I would try a more traditional in for onsen.
There are more places to choose from in the Hakodate area.
