The best Onsen Ryokan i experienced in Hokkaido. From the step in the entrance, all staff are attentive and hospitable. Kourakuen is like a garden and most the the rooms are equipped with open air private onsen. the atmosphere is really relaxing and having a cup of hot tea and some snacks(Complimentary) at night in the lobby lounge area. Kourakuen...

Stayed one night from Feb 6 to 7, 2017. We have a wonderful stay, this is my first stay in a Onsen resort. I have been to Onsen at Mt. Fuji but this resort is exceptional. Hotel is beautifully decorated and well maintained. The Onsen is wonderful especially the one close to the lobby rest area. They have 2, rotating...

Stepped into the hotel, they immediately collected our shoes and kept it for us. Everyone walked around the hotel barefoot. When we need to step out of the hotel into the snow, they provide us with traditional Japanese slipper that is covered. All the staffs are extremely polite. They greeted and bow whenever they walked pass. The room is clean...

Chose this ryokan as it was easy to commute from Sapporo. You can reach within an hour from Sapporo (train and taxi inclusive). The taxi ride from Otaru station is about JPY2500 (which is different from what was quoted by the website). Service, quality of water was good. Nothing to complain about. Food was average. I rated the food as...

Kourakuen is located at about 30 mins. by bus from JR Otaru Station. The Ryokan is newly renovated after a fire in 2014. Over half of their rooms have private hot spring. The set dinner is served in room and breakfast is at the main dinning area on the 1st floor. The food is average, may be due to the...

We visited late September 2016, when the weather was perfect. The whole building was traditional but new, as we understand there was a fire happened back in late 2014 so they rebuilt everything. This is a place where you can truly relax and relieve. Room was nicely decorated and very comfortable, and our room has the private hot spring at...

This was one of the worst onsen hotel I have ever been to in my life. The reviews was pretty descent prior to the fire renovation, but we were disappointed. First of all, the day we checked in was pretty hot in Hokkaido, with a daytime temperature at 29 C, the mini air con in the room was not sufficient...

We just recently experienced Kourakuen within days ago. The experience and good impression still lingers. Even my 12-yo son was very impressed. Your 5 senses would be tickled. We stayed in the Hinoki room, the maisonette room with private open-air bath on the upper floor. Sight - Room space is respectable, good view/ vista, well-planned layouts, impeccable finishes to the...

Makes you feel at home right from the start. You will be taking off your shoes from the moment you enter the lobby and you will be walking around barefooted or with socks like in your own home. Room is beautifully furnished with many toiletries provided. Onsen was nice and comfortable as well with a nice outdoor onsen with good...

We've stayed in Kourakuen during the fire accident in Dec. We were very lucky that we managed to get all our belongings after the accident. Staff in there were very helpful during this stressful time and most importantly they were very nice to provide all the warm clothes and food for us in -10 degrees Celsius day and a place...
