The guest house is a bit outside of the centre, however, the bus stop is literally in front of the house, so when you arrive with suitcases you take the bus. After that I loved to walk into town as very close there is the trail along the old railway tracks that takes you right into town. Or a few steps further the canal starts and that is an equally pleasant stroll into the centre. And it takes you through some of the historic buildings of Otaru that make that city special compared to others on the island. So I'd say it is in walking distance and detached from the tourist hot spots. The place itself is quiet. It is well managed and there were hardly any noises from other guests during the night. Each floor has its own bathroom, so the wait should be short to take a shower. My room had an attached toilet. I had a very friendly reception albeit the language barrier. The breakfast is straight forward and good and gives you a good start into the day. For a single traveller the room was a bit large and had three beds, so somewhat an overkill, but nice to have space. Downstairs there’s also a tatami strawmat room with a pretty view into the garden. I enjoyed my stay here.

根據Agoda上面的信息,房間有衛生間,但是我們入住的時候被告知我們要下樓來用公眾衛生間。早知道這樣,我們完全不會訂這間! Based on our booking, there should be private restroom in our room but when we check in, we were told we should come down to 1st floor to use public restroom. If we know it we will not book it AT ALL!

Booked a triple bed city room via Agoda. It wasn’t spelt out clearly that there was no en-suite bath/toilet so I was aghast when I realised it was the case. To be fair, price was value-for-money, but personally, I would not have booked had I realised the no ensuite bath/toilet situation earlier. The lady who showed us to our room couldn’t figure out how to lock the door to our room as the host was out. We had to lug some of our valuables out with us sightseeing as a result. Otherwise, it was a nice place to stay for the night. Spacious room, super clean. Host was very courteous and pleasant. There is an extra fee of 500 yen for parking overnight. Location is fair. About 20 minutes’ walk to the Otaru Canal. I wouldn’t recommend walking
